Hostage Situation in Oregon Leaves Multiple Dead

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Multiple people died during a hostage situation that unfolded in Salem, US state of Oregon, Monday afternoon, officials said.

Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a possible hostage situation on Juneva Place SE around 12:30 p.m., according to a press release issued by the sheriff’s office. Salem is about 45 miles southwest of Portland.

A trained hostage negotiator was on scene and attempted to speak with the suspect over the phone but “shots were fired,” the release said, CNN reported.

“There were multiple fatalities during this incident, including that of the suspect,” the release said.

The sheriff’s office did not say how many people died in the incident.

The Oregon State Police are leading the investigation into the shooting as they would with any deputy involved shooting for the sheriff’s office, the release said.

No deputies were injured and any deputies involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave while the investigation takes place, according to the release.

Fukuoka, Japan: Two Children Held Hostage

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Police in Fukuoka Prefecture, western Japan, say a man armed with a knife holed up inside a restaurant in Fukuoka City on Tuesday morning and is holding two girls hostage.

They say the girls are aged three and six and are the children of the restaurant’s owner. They also say the hostage-taker is a former employee of the store.

Police were notified that the man, who is in his 30s, entered the restaurant specializing in eel dishes at about 8:30 a.m. and appeared to become involved in an argument with someone there.

They say they have received no reports that the hostages have been injured.

Police have cordoned off the area and are negotiating for the man to surrender.

Footage taken from an NHK helicopter shows police officers and firefighters surrounding the building where the restaurant is located. Two ambulances are standing by.

Tehran aids Paris in hostage situation

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ghasemi said Iranian embassy in Paris assisted and cooperated with the French government to resolve the hostage situation that occurred last night.

A 26-year-old man of Moroccan nationality took at least two people hostage in a ground-floor office in central Paris last night. The hostage standoff lasted for four hours before police moved in and arrested the armed suspect. The two hostages were freed, and were “safe and sound”, according to France’s interior minister Gerard Collomb.

According to a police union official, Yves Lefebvre, the hostage-taker reportedly asked to speak to the Iranian ambassador. However, a motive for the demand was not established.

While the hostage situation was taking place, Spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, Bahram Ghasemi, said the Iranian Embassy in Paris stood ready to help “considering the importance of people’s lives and the human aspects of the issue.”

The suspect is being investigated on multiple counts, including kidnapping and sequestration, attempted homicide and violence with a weapon, a judicial official said.
