Iranian security official calls for a halt to US unilateralism

Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Hossein Zolfaghari has criticized the US government for not abiding by its commitments to International agreements while threatening other countries.

According to the Public Relation Department of Iranian Foreign Ministry, Hossein Zolfaghari made the remarks in a meeting with Singaporean ambassador to Tehran Mr ONG Keng Yong on Monday.

In the meeting, Zolfaghari expressed Iran’s readiness to develop multi-lateral cooperation with Singapore at all levels, stressing that Iran has never posed a threat to any country and is ready to have relations with all countries in the world.

Referring to the US unilateral withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal, he said that the US sanctions can turn into an opportunity for Iran to improve its economy.

The US is promoting Iranophobia in the region to sell more of its weapons, he said.

The Iranian official further said that Iran is leading a war against terrorism in the region, stressing that it has never sought instability in the region.

He also invited Singaporean officials to visit Iran to further develop bilateral cooperation.

Singaporean ambassador, for his part, welcomed developing relation with Iran, saying the two countries can expand their bilateral relations in various political and security fields.

He also said that Singaporean businessmen are ready to increase economic ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran and called for the development of bilateral economic cooperation.

Iranian security official calls for more peace to solve refugee crisis

Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Hossein Zolfaghari says the world system has lost its ability to resolve conflicts.

Hossein Zolfaghari made the remarks in a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi on Saturday afternoon.

Zolfaghari expressed Iran’s readiness to exchange information with UN officials to solve refugees’ problems, adding Iran has a lot of experience in dealing with immigrants and refugees.

He said that about 700,000 Afghans who have been living in Iran return to their country voluntarily or due to depreciation of Iranian national currency the rial, adding that 800,000 are still in Iran illegally.

Meanwhile, he pointed out that according to official statistics about 103,000 Afghan children are studying in schools across Iran after the Leader of the Islamic Republic issued an order in that regard.

Zolfaghari also noted that as long as conflicts continue in Afghanistan, many Afghan refugees will opt for staying in Iran and will not return to their own country.

The Iranian interior minister further noted that according to intelligence information, Takfiri groups are being transferred to Afghanistan, adding that US unilateral actions are worsening the country’s situation.

He called on the countries and the United Nations to heighten their efforts to prevent more conflicts as they can generate more refugees and immigration.

Iran, China poised to raise security, intelligence coop.

Iranian Deputy Interior Minister Hossein Zolfaghari and Chinese Deputy Public Security Minister for Counter-Terrorism Liu Yuejin agreed to expand security and intelligence cooperation between the two countries.

“The number of our joint training courses with China has increased and we have made more serious decisions to take action in the war on terrorism and drug trafficking and countering the security threats of the two countries,” said Iranian Deputy Interior Minister for Security and Law Enforcement Hossein Zolfaghari.

The Iranian official made the remarks on Monday during meeting with Chinese Deputy Public Security Minister for Counter-Terrorism Liu Yuejin in Tehran.

The two officials also signed a security Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Iran and China.

Pointing to bilateral cooperation between Iran and China in the fields of fighting narcotics, terrorism and organized crimes, Mr. Zolfaghari added that such cooperation has also increased in the field of cybercrimes.

Liu Yuejin, for his part, called the bilateral meetings a success for both sides, especially in the field of fighting against international crimes.

He said that through such cooperation the two sides are taking an effective step forward in the fight against terrorism and international crimes.

It is worth mentioning that talks between the officials of the Interior Ministries of Iran and Turkey are regularly held with the intention to strengthen the security and law enforcement relations of the two countries.
