TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran has formally inaugurated its new crude oil export terminal on the Sea of Oman, a project hailed by President Hassan Rouhani as a historic achievement which could prove vital in the country’s energy future.

The Goureh-Jask Crude Oil Transfer Project was inaugurated on Thursday during a video conference session attended by Rouhani and senior Oil Ministry officials in Tehran.

The project allows Iran for a first time in more than 110 years of its oil industry history to export crude from a terminal outside the Persian Gulf.

The terminal is also a first in a region where global oil producers are forced to dispatch crude tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow waterway at the mouth of the Persian Gulf where ships have been subject to attacks and sabotage in the past.

Oil reaches Jask through a 1,000-kilometer pipeline that starts from old pumping station in Goureh in southwest Iran and stretches around the Persian Gulf while travelling through three southern provinces “Today is a historic and big day for the Iranian nation and as time passes by the significance of this project will become clearer for the people,” said Rouhani as he described the launch as a sign of utter failure for U.S.

He said the completion of the project by Iranian engineers using domestic potentials in such a short time of 2 years and a few month is a strong and firm response to all conspirators, especially the United States because oil was one of the most important elements in the list of American sanctions.

President Rouhani further noted the U.S. sanctions targeted two important areas of oil exports and supply of basic goods because they knew if Iran faced a reduction in oil exports, it would it would no longer have any foreign exchange to meet its needs especially at a time it has to provide $ 6 million in medicine.

The report said some 250 Iranian companies had contributed to the construction and engineering work in a project that took more than two years to complete.

Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh said the new terminal in Jask kicks off with 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude exports as he insisted that a target of 1 million bpd will be within reach by March when a third and final phase of the project is finished.

A total of 53,000 billion tomans has been invested in the construction of this pipeline, and with its official operation, sustainable employment will be created for 10,000 people.

Explaining the plan and the process of its implementation and operation, Zanganeh described the day as a historical occasion for the Iranian oil industry as the export of the Iranian crude oil from the Makran region begins.

According to the Minister, more than 250 companies have been involved in the project which he described as “huge national project, which was implemented and operated under the harsh sanctions and economic war.”

He said the project will pave the way for economic development in the Makran region.

Earlier, the chief of the National Iranian Oil Company announced that pumping oil into strategic Goreh-Jask pipeline will start upon its completion by the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in near future.

Masoud Karbasian said that the pipeline will bring oil from Goreh in Bushehr to Jask, making it strategically important as the country’s second-largest crude oil export terminal.

The pipeline is laid from Goreh oil terminal in the southwestern Bushehr Province to Jask oil terminal along the Gulf of Oman.

He added that other operating units in Goreh-Jask pipeline project are in a steady situation to transfer oil to Jask terminal, and pumping oil into strategic Goreh-Jask pipeline is being done in a steady situation.

Referring to the importance of the project, Karbasian added that operations have begun to start injecting oil into the 1,000km Goreh-Jask pipeline.

In remarks on Wednesday, IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri said the homegrown drone has detected the US carrier strike group before the flotilla cruised through the Strait of Hormuz and into the waters of the Persian Gulf.

The military vessels detected by the Iranian drone were USS Nimitz aircraft carrier along with its flotilla of ships, including two destroyers with identification numbers 114 and 104, battle cruisers 58 and 59, two patrol frigates with identification numbers 9 and 12, and a coast guard cutter with code 1333, he said.

The commander made the comments on the sidelines of ceremony during which 188 new naval drones and helicopters joined the IRGC navy’s fleet of aircraft.

In July, the IRGC conducted a large-scale aerial and naval drill off the strategic Strait of Hormuz and in the Persian Gulf, including countermeasure against US aircraft carrier threats in the region.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Monday that the Hormuz Peace Endeavor, aka HOPE, initiatives done by Iran has been welcomed by several countries in the region.

However, he said that there are three countries in the region which are not seeking peace and they feel that if they pretend to be threatened in the region, they can open the door to the US presence, according to IRNA.

The Iranian foreign minister said some regional states believe that they can buy security.

“I think the United States has shown them that it has no obligation to their security, and it only wants their money,” he said.

Zarif added that the Iranian initiative is comprised of six countries of [Persian] Gulf Cooperation Council plus Iran, Iraq and Yemen.

The HOPE initiatives in the region was proposed by Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani at the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly last year.

In an address to the 74th session of the UN General Assembly in September 25, President Rouhani said as a steward of maritime security in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, Iran invites all countries that are affected by developments in the strategic region to join the Hormuz Peace Endeavor.

The initiative aims to promote peace, stability, progress and prosperity for littoral states and to help achieve mutual understanding and establish peaceful and friendly relations among the neighbors, he said.

Iran introduced the HOPE plan after several oil tankers were targeted in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman last year.

The US and its ally Saudi Arabia quickly blamed Iran for the attacks.

Tehran rejected the accusations and said the incidents appear to be false flags meant to frame the Islamic Republic.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Coincides with China, Iran, and Russia joint naval drills, Acting US Navy Secretary Thomas Modly said on Friday that Iran could carry out “provocative actions” in the Strait of Hormuz and elsewhere in that region in the future despite a period of relative calm.

US navy official told Reuters that “I think they’re going to continue to make drills as performance of provocative actions over Hormuz… and I think they’ll look at every opportunity they can to do that,” Modly told Reuters.

Since May, the Pentagon has sent 14,000 additional troops to the region to deter Iran, including an aircraft carrier.

Modly suggested that US reactions to Iranian actions could take away from the Pentagon’s focus toward priorities like countering China.

“As they start creating mischief over there… our reaction is we send an aircraft carrier over there for 10 months,” he said.

Modly’s warning on future actions coincides with China, Iran, and Russia beginning joint naval drills in the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Oman.

The Gulf of Oman is a particularly sensitive waterway as it connects to the Strait of Hormuz – through which about a fifth of the world’s oil passes – which in turn connects to the Gulf.

In this regard, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif pointed to the joint naval drill between Iran, Russia, and China and said, “the Islamic Republic of Iran has announced readiness to cooperate with its neighbors in line with providing security of the Persian Gulf.”

He added, “the joint military exercise in the Sea of Oman and Indian Ocean with the participation of Russian and Chinese partners manifests the vast commitments of the country to safeguard security of vital waterways.

“We haven’t seen it. If the theme … of that [plan] is based on stability, of course, we will support it,” Irannews quoted him as saying on Friday in an exclusive interview on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

During his speech at the 74th UN General Assembly on Wednesday, President Hassan Rouhani said, “Based upon the historical responsibility of my country in maintaining security, peace, stability and progress in the Persian Gulf region and Strait of Hormuz, I would like to invite all the countries directly affected by the developments in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz to the ‘Coalition for Hope’, meaning Hormuz Peace Endeavor.”

Rouhani said, “The goal of the Coalition for Hope is to promote peace, stability, progress and welfare for all the residents of the Strait of Hormuz region, and to enhance mutual understanding and peaceful and friendly relations amongst them.”

“This initiative includes various venues for cooperation, such as the collective supply of energy security, freedom of navigation and free transfer of oil and other resources to and from the Strait of Hormuz and beyond.”

Rouhani added, “The Coalition for Hope is based on important principles such as compliance with the goals and principles of the United Nations, mutual respect, equal footing, dialog and understanding, respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty, inviolability of international borders, the peaceful settlement of all disputes, and more importantly, the two fundamental principles of non-aggression and non-interference in the domestic affairs of each other.”

The president also said, “The presence of the United Nations is necessary for the creation of an international umbrella in support of the Coalition for Hope.”

In a tweet on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also invited all regional states to join Iran’s initiative for securing the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

Zarif said the initiative entails “dialogue, confidence-building, freedom of navigation, energy security, non-aggression, and non-intervention”.

Speaking on Tuesday, at a press conference on International Army Games 2018, hosted by Iran in ‘Deep Diving’ section in Noshahr, Mazandaran province, Khanzadi said “blocking Strait of Hormuz requires some principles and preliminaries; efficiency of any strait is due to its openness and if closed, the strait will be worthless.”

Iran’s Navy will continue preserving security and controlling ‘innocent passage’ in the Strait, he added.

Certainly, cruel sanctions against Iran will affect the function of the Strait of Hormuz, which in turn will impose consequences on many other countries; “the outcome of a decision will not affect only one country but also the whole world,” he underlined.

Khanzadi stressed that “keeping the strategic Strait of Hormuz open depends on preserving interests of Iran, and the international community must remain committed to its obligations towards the Islamic Republic.”

“US will not play a role in our decision over the Strait of Hormuz; Iran’s move is only dependent on the order of Leader of Islamic Revolution,” he emphasized.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he referred to the International Army Games 2018, saying “this year, for the first time, the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran hosts ‘Deep Diving’ competitions in Noshahr, from August 1 to 11, in which teams from Russia, Syria, South Africa, Venezuela, India, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and the Islamic Republic of Iran compete for 12 days.

“Our borders are the safest in the world. Of course, there are malicious actions on borders everywhere in the world. In our country, the strength of the armed forces is such that the evil forces do not dare to do a damn thing,” Brigadier General Kiumars Heidari told reporters on Sunday in a ceremony in Tehran.

Referring to the recent warning by Iranian president about preventing other countries from exporting oil through the Strait of Hormuz if Iran cannot export its own oil, Brigadier General Kiumars Heidari said “the president’s warning is not a new warning and our nation and armed forces have been warning about this for years. I would like to repeat that again the Strait of Hormuz must either be open or closed for all.”

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ali Motahari said Tue. that Tehran would retaliate against US threats of reducing Iran’s oil revenues to zero by closing the Strait of Hormuz as one of the world’s key maritime choke points.

Motahari made the remark in relation to the US’ implicit threats to squeeze Iran’s oil exports following Washington’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal and its decision to reinstate sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

US officials have called on countries to cut all imports of Iranian oil when it reimposes sanctions on Tehran. The first batch on August 4 targets Iran’s automotive sector and its trade in gold and other key metals, and the second batch to be imposed on November 6 will target Iran’s energy sector, petroleum-related transactions, and transactions with the Central Bank of Iran.

State Department Director of Policy Planning Brian Hook told reporters on July 2 that the US aims to increase pressure on Iran by “reducing to zero its revenue on crude oil sales.”

Following the threat, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, while on a visit to Switzerland, said the US had no understanding of the actual meaning of the threat, adding that “it has no meaning for Iranian oil not to be exported while the region’s oil is exported.” Rouhani also maintained that any attempts to undermine Iran’s oil exports would result in consequences for the US.

The deputy parliament speaker further hailed President Rouhani’s response to US oil sanctions, adding “the Americans are not prepared for a new war in the Persian Gulf, therefore Mr. President’s words were a good threat that will result in a positive impact and act as a deterrent to any bans against Iran’s oil exports.”

TEHRAN – Iran’s Hormuz Island in the Persian Gulf is well-known for its eye-catching ochre, a red-colored earth pigment that attracts domestic and foreign nature lovers and holidaymakers.

Also spelled Hormoz, the island covers an area of approximately 42 square kilometers, most of which fairly uninhabited. It is sprawled in the Strait of Hormuz, 8km from the mainland.

Most of its visitors are day trippers from adjacent Qeshm Island and Bandar Abbas, the latter is a bustling port city and the capital of Hormozgan province.

It is probable to traverse much of the land in a single day by car. However, there are a few popular spots, some on the beaches and some in the valleys where eco-tourists prefer to camp out for days. The sunny coastline is made up from striking blend of golden beaches and amazing steep cliffs and slopes.

The arid island gets unbelievably hot during midday so that ideally, winter may be the best time to pay a visit. In summertime its temperate can rise to over 43 °C.

The island also features ruins of Portuguese ramparts with clusters of eroding artillery cannons all around. In the early 16th century the land was occupied by Portuguese forces who utilized it as stopover for ships voyaging to Goa, Gujarat and nearby Qeshm.

The rugged land is covered by sedimentary rocks, layers of volcanic material and various minerals that contribute to formation of fantastic colors, a feature that also attracts miners and exploiters to the region too.

The exploitation of the island’s ocher has been accelerated over the past couple of years so that rising ecological concerns has prompted the Department of Environment to take action to defend interests of the inhabitants and safeguard the region for future generations.

Traditionally, its reddish soil, which indigenous people call it “Golak”, is used for making local foodstuff to decorative arts and even as spices for cooking fish to making pickled vegetables.
