In their constant contact with Oman, the US officials have claimed that they want de-escalation and stability in the region, Yusuf bin Alawi said in his speech to Tehran Dialogue Forum in the Iranian capital, IRNA reported.

In his speech, the Omani foreign minister expressed condolence to his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on martyrdom of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) senior commander Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani.

Lieutenant General Soleimani and the acting commander of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) — known as the Hash al-Shaabi — Abu Mahdi Al-Mohandes, separately leaving Baghdad airport in two cars were targeted and assassinated by the US forces on January 3.

Meanwhile, the Omani foreign minister appreciated General Soleimani for his valuable services during his lifetime.

Bin Alawi said that he is sure that Iran has been taking steps towards security, stressing Oman is Iran’s partner and that cooperation between the two countries is fruitful.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and several other high-ranking dignitaries from the neighboring states attended the Tehran Dialogue Forum on January 6-7 to exchange views and explore practical ways out of the perilous situation dominated by the paradigm of aggression, extremism, and violence.

The Tehran International Conference on Hope, due to held in the capital on Monday and Tuesday, January 6 and 7, will discuss the HOPE initiative as well as the latest developments in the Persian Gulf.

The main sessions of this forum include public meetings and specialized round-table talks on Tuesday, January 7 from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm (local time).

The international event will be attended by domestic political officials, senior officials from regional countries, thinkers, heads of research institutes and national and international experts.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani presented the HOPE initiative while delivering a speech at the UN General Assembly 2019 and invited all regional countries to participate in it.

“The initiative is based on the fact that all regional countries are duty-bound to ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the region. Together with the international community, they have common interests in maintaining freedom of navigation and energy transfer,” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said about the initiative at a UN Security Council meeting on September 25.

These regional efforts are necessary to prevent war, conflict, violence, extremism, terrorism and sectarian tensions, Zarif said at the time, adding that Tehran’s proposal was aimed at enhancing solidarity, mutual understanding as well as peaceful and friendly relations between countries in the region in order to guarantee the territorial integrity and political independence of regional states.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The managing director of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization, has said that the Iranian delegation plans to put forward the HOPE initiative at the International Maritime Organization, IMO summit in London.

In an interview with the IRIB on Monday, Mohammad Rastad said that security in the region must be maintained by the regional countries.

Rastad also said, “The Iranian delegation will stress that the United States, as a member state to the International Maritime Organization, has created limitations for Iran through sanctions and has threatened other countries to cut cooperation with Iran.”

The behavior of the U.S. is against the IMO convention, he lamented.

The summit was scheduled to open on November 25 and end on December 4 in London.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi announced on Monday that three countries have accepted to join Iran’s Hormuz peace initiative.

“Three countries have given written response to Iran’s invitation and other countries are studying it,” Mousavi told a regular press briefing.

He did not name the countries.

At the United Nations summit in New York in late September, Iran officially unveiled a proposal for regional security, officially called the Hormuz Peace Endeavour (HOPE).

“Based upon the historical responsibility of my country in maintaining security, peace, stability and progress in the Persian Gulf region and Strait of Hormuz, I would like to invite all the countries directly affected by the developments in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz to the ‘Coalition for Hope’, meaning Hormuz Peace Endeavor,” President Hassan Rouhani told the UN delegates.

Foreign Minister Zarif has invited all regional states to join Iran’s initiative for securing the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

In a tweet in September, Zarif said the initiative entails “dialogue, confidence-building, freedom of navigation, energy security, non-aggression, and non-intervention”.

In a post on his Twitter account on October 15, Zarif renewed Iran’s call to all countries bordering the Persian Gulf to join Tehran’s initiative to “forge a blueprint for peace, security, stability, and prosperity” in the region.

In his press briefing, the Foreign Ministry spokesman called on certain Persian Gulf Arab states to abandon reliance on foreign forces for their security, saying dependence on foreigners is just an “illusion”

“We called on the countries to respond to Iran’s peace-seeking call and abandon illusions. We have stressed that presence of foreign countries undermines security and stability. We hope this initiative of Iran would face with positive response in IMO summit,” Mousavi stated.

NAM Can Take Lead in Addressing Global Challenges

IRAN NEWS POLITICAL DESK

TEHRAN – The Non-Aligned Movement can take the lead in addressing global challenges, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said at the 18th Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku on Oct. 25, Trend reports.

“The Non-Aligned Movement demonstrates its commitment to cooperation and opposes one-sidedness. This summit has been convened during the time when intensification of conflicts is taking place in the world, and all this leads to a violation of international obligations and interference in the internal affairs of states. The Non-Aligned Movement member countries can take the lead in addressing global challenges, including acts of extremism. More coordination is required to protect the interests of states. The Non-Aligned Movement can play a role in protecting the interests of member countries,” Rouhani said.

Rouhani noted that regional security is achievable only through cooperation.

One of the threats in the modern world is the insecurity in cyberspace, the Iranian president said adding that the security in cyberspace is a prerequisite for the security of states and member countries of the movement can also cooperate in this area.

Rouhani went on to say that the country’s peace initiative known as ‘Hormuz Peace Endeavor (HOPE)’ is meant to enhance peace, stability, and progress for all Persian Gulf states.

“Last month, I unveiled in the General Assembly of the United Nations the HOPE initiative, which stands for the Hormuz Peace Endeavour. The HOPE coalition aims to enhance peace, stability, progress, mutual understanding and peaceful and friendly relations among all the countries located in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz as well as avoidance of intervention and intimidation,” Rouhani said on Friday during a speech at the 18th NAM summit in Baku.

He added, “We believe that the stability and security of our neighbors are tied to our own stability and security. And regional security and development are attainable only through cooperation and collective participation of neighbors”.

He went on to say, “America’s domination over the international monetary system has encouraged the United States in the past several decades and particularly in recent years to misuse the dollar regularly to put political pressure on independent states most of which NAM members and enforce various sanctions and limit access to international monetary systems. Such measures are in direct conflict with the legitimate freedom and rights of independent nations and the Non-Aligned Movement can take important steps to neutralize the impact of such tools. This can take place with an international commitment to the requirements of economic sustainability, expansion of trade ties on the basis of bilateral and multilateral monetary treaties، employment of independent and alternative initiatives on banking services and increased use of cryptocurrencies. Of course, all of this should be accomplished in line with upholding international anti-money-laundering and terrorism financing rules. Many NAM member states including Iran have placed this important issue on their agenda.”

He further said this summit is convened under circumstances in which the world is rapidly transiting to multilateralism, adding that in such complex period, violence and confrontation in various regions are on the rise. National sovereignty of independent countries are being violated in various forms.

He said, “Inclination towards military polarization, arms race, intensification of wars and conflicts as well as sectarian and regional divergence is increasing; So are law evading and violation of international commitments and interference in the domestic affairs of independent countries. Today the U.S. is employing oppressive economic tools in order to impose its illegitimate political goals on independent nations out of desperation in such outrageous and arrogant ways considered to be economic terrorism.”

“Under such turbulent conditions, the Non-Aligned Movement, as a set of countries representing more than two thirds of the UN member states, can be the pioneer on behalf of its members and the human society in finding solutions for the current global problems and within the framework of law abiding, fulfillment of international commitments, moderation and prevention of violence and extremism,” he stated.

Rouhani reiterated, “The Islamic Republic of Iran, understanding the risks of terrorist and extremist groups, presented in the sixty eighth General Assembly of the United Nations a proposal under the title of the World Against Violence and Extremism (WAVE), which resulted in the subsequent adoption of two General Assembly resolutions in 2013 and 2015 and was noted with great attention in the Seventeenth NAM summit in Venezuela. Under such circumstances, independent countries require more exchange of views, synergy and coordination in order to safeguard their interests. Here, the Non-Aligned Movement, thanks to its valuable history and experience, can play an effective role in securing the interests of its members proportionate with the requirements of the new world.”
