TEHRAN (Iran News) – Deputy Health Minister Iraj Harirchi has announced that among nine COVID-19 vaccines, which are under development in Iran, the first home-made corona vaccine will be available within 40 days.

In a meeting with Malaysian Deputy Foreign Minister Dato’ Kamarudin Jaffar, Harirchi said on Tuesday that Iranian researchers have been successful in developing nine vaccines and four of them will be distributed within next months, adding that the Iranian people will be provided with the first domestically produced vaccine in next 40 days and that the second vaccine with the production capacity of eight to 10 million doses per month will be available within around 70 days.

The third and forth vaccines will be distributed within 120 days, the Iranian official said, noting that Iran could cooperate with Malaysia in producing these corona vaccines.

Pointing to the impact of sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, he stipulated that 98.3 percent of medicine used in Iran are being produced inside the country.

The health official has expressed the Islamic Republic’s readiness to expand relations and cooperation with the Muslim country of Malaysia in different political, cultural, economic, trade and health sectors.

He also underlined that officials from both sides have held phone calls to exchange experiences on the ways to confront the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic as well as discuss issues of mutual interests.

Malaysian and Iranian health officials have so far emphasized that they are prepared to cooperate in producing vaccines, exporting medicines and supporting startups active in health sectors of both countries.

Head of Pasteur Institute of Iran Alireza Biglari said the Malaysian side has received a report on the institute’s experience on producing vaccines and expressed readiness to expand cooperation with Iranian research and health organizations.

A proposed memorandum of understanding between the two sides has been finalized in the Tuesday meeting, which will be signed in a future session between health ministers of both countries.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki said on Monday that the country’s home-made coronavirus vaccine will be ready for mass-production and distribution late in spring, noting that none of the officials, including Supreme Leader, has received a vaccine jab.

“A source of pride for the Islamic Republic is that it will own a national vaccine this spring,” Namaki said, expressing the hope that a large number of Iranians would receive the first dose of coronavirus vaccine by late spring, using imports and the indigenous vaccine.

He also blasted the US and Britain for depriving certain countries, including Iran, from supplying coronavirus vaccine.

Namaki stated that none of the Iranian officials has yet received the COVID-19 vaccine, and added, “Supreme Leader of the (Islamic) Revolution (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) has also emphasized that he is in favor of the Iran-made vaccine.”

A senior official at Iran’s Food and Drug Administration (IFDA) announced on Sunday that the country will produce and distribute 2.5mln doses of coronavirus vaccine manufactured jointly with Cuba in late spring.

“If the third phase of clinical trial of the Cuba-Iran-made coronavirus vaccine, Soberana, receives approval, 2.5mln doses of the vaccine will be produced and distributed late in spring,” Seyed Heidar Mohammadi, the director-general of drugs and materials under control of the IFDA, told FNA.

He added that the third human trial phase for another Iran-made vaccine, namely COV-Iran Barekat, will also end late in spring, noting that 1.5mln doses of the vaccine will be manufactured in the first stage of production.

IFDA Spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said late in March that the indigenized coronavirus vaccine, COV-Iran, developed by the Iranian scientists at the Headquarters for Executing the Order of Imam Khomeini (HEIKO) will be mass-produced late in spring.

“Phase 2 of human trial of COV-Iran Barekat vaccine will be terminated by the end of April. Given the reports of its success, the vaccine seems to have entered phase 3 and we will start the mass production phase in late spring to do general vaccination,” Jahanpour said.

He added that a joint vaccine is also being developed in cooperation between Cuba and the Pasteur Institute of Iran. “Phase 1 and 2 of its clinical trial have been conducted in Cuba and phase 3 has begun in Cuba,” he said, noting that 100,000 doses of this vaccine have been imported into the country and phase 3 of the clinical trial of this vaccine will start in the country with an interval of two weeks.

“Of course, as soon as the reports of phase 3 of this vaccine are confirmed, the general vaccination and its mass production will start in Iran and Cuba,” Jahanpour said.

He also added that vaccine of Milad Daru Noor Company, under the supervision of the Ministry of Defense, entitled ‘Fakhra’ vaccine, has entered phase 1 of clinical studies and will be available until late summer.

“The Razi is also going through the last days of phase one and if approved, it will enter phase two,” he said, adding that the vaccine also appears to be available to the public in late summer and early fall.

“In addition to the mentioned vaccines, several research institutes have vaccines in the pre-clinical study stage and even in the clinical stage, and if approved, they will go under mass production next autumn and winter,” Jahanpour said.

Last month, Head of Iran’s Headquarters for Executing the Order of Imam (Khomeini) Coronavirus Research Team Hassan Jalili said that the indigenized coronavirus vaccine, COV-Iran, is capable of controlling the coronavirus completely, even the mutation that originated in Britain.

“The vaccine is fully capable of controlling coronavirus and there is no problem in this regard,” Jalili said, addressing a ceremony to start the second phase of the clinical trial of COV-Iran vaccine.

He added that nearly 1.5mln doses of COV-Iran vaccine will be produced by the end of spring.

Jalili expressed the hope that by mass-production of the vaccine, Iran would be the first country in the world to complete vaccination of its population against COVID-19 virus by the year-end.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran has unveiled a new COVID-19 vaccine developed by the Defense Ministry’s research center formerly headed by nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, who was assassinated in a suspected Israeli-linked terror attack late last year.

The first phase in the human trial of the vaccine, dubbed Fakhra, was launched during a ceremony in Tehran on Tuesday, with Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami and Health Minister Saeed Namaki in attendance.

Fakhra was named to commemorate Fakhrizadeh, who played a leading role in the vaccine project as the head of the Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND) prior to his assassination on November 27, 2020, near Tehran in a terrorist operation apparently linked to the Israeli regime.

The new Iranian COVID-19 vaccine was administered to the son of Fakhrizadeh.

The official in charge of the vaccine’s production said the research and development process began last March and it involved cell culture, inoculation, proliferation, isolation and purification, and inactivation and formulation.

Later, he added, the vaccine was tested on more than 650 animals from different species of mice, rabbits, guinea pigs, and monkeys.

The design and construction of a factory for the vaccine’s mass production have started, he said, expressing hope that it will enter the production phase in summer.

Speaking at Tuesday’s event, Namaki said in the spring, the Islamic Republic will become one of the most important and best vaccine manufacturers in the world.

He added that the Iran-Cuba COVID-19 vaccine is the first vaccine that will be mass-produced, followed by the CovIran Barekat, Razi COV-Pars and Fakhra vaccines, respectively.

“Today is a day of pride and reliance on indigenous knowledge. As an immunologist and the health minister, I testify that the method of producing vaccines in Iran is in accordance with the most scientific methods in the world…. The Fakhra vaccine’s tests on animal models have proven extremely effective and the human trials begin today,” Namaki said.

“I am proud to announce that the Islamic Republic, which has been under sanctions and subjected to oppression by those who deprived patients of medicine and lied, shines as one of the leading countries in the management of the coronavirus [pandemic] in the world,” he added.

In addition to developing domestic vaccines, Iran has imported reliable foreign vaccines.

So far, a total of 1,260,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been imported to the country from Russia, China, India, and Cuba, according to Alireza Raeisi, the spokesman for the National Headquarters for Managing and Fighting the Coronavirus.

Meanwhile, later the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) said that health defenders have worked honestly since the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Speaking at a ceremony honoring scientific elites and health defenders and unveiling the coronavirus rapid diagnosis kit held at Baqiyatallah University in Tehran, Major-General Hossein Salami added: “The devoted warriors of Iran in health created many honors in the last 2 years.”

IRGC Chief Commander said: “Today, it is a great honor to be among the defenders of health. Greetings to all the dear martyrs in the field of health in Iran, especially to my colleagues in Baqiyatallah Hospital.”

Major-General Salami said that the health defenders were at the forefront of the most difficult incident, but stood honestly and resisted.

Salami added that the Iranian Islamic system and nation have lived in the atmosphere of the possibility of war with Iran’s enemies for the past two years, but the resistance of health defenders has strengthened the Islamic system and the IRGC.

“Baqiyatallah University of Medical Sciences is the brand of the Islamic Revolution and it should be the most advanced university of medical sciences in the world in all fields, and this goal is achievable,” he highlighted.
