4.5% Increase in Home Appliance Exports in H1

TEHRAN (Iran News) Ebrahim Sheikh, Deputy Minister of General Industries at the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade, made the remarks on Thursday, October 23, 2025, on the sidelines of the Home Appliance Exhibition. He noted that the home appliance sector experienced around 10% growth in 2024 compared to 2023.

He added, “Although production growth has slightly slowed over the past six months, exports have increased by 4.5%.”

Sheikh emphasized that the ministry’s main strategy in this sector is to expand exports, stating, “We aim to achieve $800 million in exports within the framework of our strategic plan.” He also noted plans to focus on producing energy-efficient products—such as A+++ and A+ rated appliances—and to improve access to raw materials including petrochemical and steel products.

According to Sheikh, nearly 22 million appliance components have been produced domestically, while around 2 to 3 million units have been imported from various countries.

He added, “Our goal at the Ministry of Industry is to reform border trade laws so that they facilitate the import of essential parts and equipment for domestic manufacturers. This will allow producers to offer higher-quality products at more competitive prices.”

Sheikh also cautioned that importing finished goods similar to domestically produced ones with low tariffs could harm local manufacturers. “We are therefore working to ensure that border trade regulations are used to strengthen domestic production,” he said.

Regarding pricing, Sheikh noted that locally produced home appliances are cheaper than comparable foreign products, and that customer satisfaction with domestic brands now exceeds 80%.

“Our industrial policies must move in the same direction as those of leading manufacturing countries—improving price, quality, and export development in tandem,” he said.

Sheikh added that the domestic market is now highly competitive. “Although some foreign competitors are still present, their market share is shrinking. More than 200 small and large companies are participating in this exhibition, reflecting the strength of domestic competition. This has helped increase the local manufacturing depth from 50% to 60%, improving both price and quality standards.”

He concluded by noting that while foreign products still enter the Iranian market through various channels, “the first and preferred choice of Iranian consumers in the home appliance sector remains domestically produced goods.”

Meanwhile Sadegh Beikzadeh, CEO of the Islamic Republic of Iran International Exhibitions Company, announced on Thursday, October 23, 2025, during the opening ceremony of the 25th International Home Appliance Exhibition, that this year’s event features the participation of 235 domestic companies and 30 foreign companies from various countries.

Beikzadeh stated that the 25th Home Appliance and Related Industries Exhibition is in a strong position compared to previous years, adding that industry associations and manufacturing groups have played a more active role this year.

He noted, “This year, nine exhibition halls are being utilized. Given the level of interest and demand, we could have easily added another five or six halls, as many other companies also sought to participate.”

According to Beikzadeh, the exhibition covers 35,000 square meters of usable space and over 20,000 square meters of display area.

He explained that the exhibition has evolved into more than just a product showcase:

“It has become a platform for policymaking, knowledge exchange, and the transfer of the latest technologies. Many leading companies with significant market shares are taking part in this event.”

The CEO of the International Exhibitions Company expressed hope that the exhibition would serve as a platform for domestic manufacturers to expand their presence in export markets, in addition to meeting domestic demand.

Beikzadeh emphasized that many of these companies are operating on the cutting edge of technology in various small, medium, and large-scale industries.

“By developing exhibition services and supporting the participation of manufacturing units in such platforms, we can help create both domestic and international demand for their products,” he concluded.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Chairman of the Iranian Home Appliances Trade Union Mr. Akbar Pazouki says despite slump in the price of the home appliances in the country, this market is struggling with recession.

Speaking to ILNA and touching upon the current condition of the home appliances market, he said currently this market is in recession like the days before the Nowruz (New Year), adding that some factories have not started production this year yet and it seems they want to increase the price of their products but they have not received any authorization for increasing the prices.

He added that in the month of Ramadhan, people are mostly busy with praying and worship than purchasing goods and the first month of the year, Farvardin, is like the first day of the week, Saturday, that people do not show any will for purchase. He expressed hope that with the end of month of Ramadhan, curbing the coronavirus and beginning of weddings as well as the government support, home appliances market would pick up.

He blamed weak purchase power of the people for this recession, adding that this recession has been seen in some other markets like apparel, gold and cars in recent months.

Pazouki noted that the production association says 70% of the products are home-made and five major home appliances enjoy domestic potentials and therefore the fluctuation in the price of forex will not affect their prices. He also urged the government to support this industry in order that production would pick up with good quality. He reiterated that if the government does not help, all parties, either vendors, producers and customers, will be losers because when producer and consumer do not have shares of the product, the result will be recession that now we are witnessing it in the market.

He went on to say that one month later it will the time of the tax payment by the businesses and it had been decided during the pandemic the government to support the businesses but it did not happen and businesses paid their taxes but now they expect support from the government.

On the effect of removal of sanction on the home appliances prices, he said that now for the production, the manufacturrers have to import their required parts through middlemen and it increases the prices and if sanctions are removed, it will decrease the price of the home appliances by at least 30%.

He also criticized the smuggling of the home appliances and their sales in the virtual space, adding that related organs should take necessary measures.

Pazouki went on to say that sales of the home appliances are to be organized in the virtual spaces to avoid fraud or sales of the smuggled products which harm both manufacturers and purchasers.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Head of Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers of Iran (AHAMI) says 40 percent of the home appliance market in the country is in control of the smuggled commodities which is valued at around $2.5b on average.

Alireza Mohammadi Daniali said that the volume of Iran’s home appliance market is estimated at around $6b annually as the smuggled commodities account for 40 percent of this market. He went on to say that the share of small home appliance items like spoon, forks and crystals is more than the big items like TV and this volume of illegal imports have put some producers in this field in critical condition.

He then said that major imports of the home appliance is almost banned due to protecting the domestic production but some items can be imported because its name is in the list of 26 prioritized groups.

Mohammadi Daniali went on to say that free zones are one of the major illegal imports of the home appliances, adding that some may blame the “koolbars,” (porters who carry huge packs of goods on their backs and cross the border on foot to supply them with goods not widely available in Iran) for smuggling the goods via borders but the truth is otherwise, adding that of course it is also one way of smuggling but it is not serious and if the employment problem in the border towns is resolved, the case of koolbars will be closed.

He noted that all countries support their domestic productions and officials in Iran should find some solution to counter the smuggling saga while they announce the volume of the smuggled goods.

Daniali went on to say that since two years ago, major foreign home appliance brands have left the country and Iranian producers have tried to fill the gap by increasing and improving the quality of their productions.

He said most of domestic producers have experienced 60 percent rise in production and therefore investments in this industry has grown and it is necessary the government to increase its role for meeting the needs of the industry.

He said one of the tasks of the government is to support the industries in the current recession condition and the decline in the purchasing power of the people in order save the country for a bigger crisis.

He then pointed to the condition of exports of home appliance and said that despite weak economic diplomacy and problems in transfer of money, Iran’s exports of home appliance are valued at around $200m per year and they are exported mainly to the neighboring countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia and few items to Europe.

Last week more than 300 websites that used to sell smuggled goods have been so far identified and shut down.

According to the report, the volume of smuggled home appliances has decreased from $2.247 billion in the Iranian calendar year 1397 (March 2018-March 2019) to $897 million in the current year.
