TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Judiciary Chief Seyed Ebrahim Raeisi ordered bringing back and prosecuting the fugitive criminals convicted of financial crimes who have fled the country to escape justice.

In a Monday meeting of the Judiciary High Council, Raeisi ordered the Prosecutor General and the Judiciary’s deputy chief for international affairs to seriously pursue efforts to return fugitive financial criminals to the country.

“Those facing charges must surrender to justice and know that they cannot escape justice,” the top judge stressed.

Raeisi also lashed out at certain Western states for harboring criminals and fugitives who have fled Iran.

“One of the examples of injustice and major cruelties to humanity is that a number of countries claiming to fight against organized corruption and money-laundering have sheltered economic criminals and their dirty money,” the Judiciary chief added.

Since August 2018, Iran’s Judiciary has been holding public trials of individuals involved in major economic corruption cases.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has permitted the Judiciary to take special measures in order to confront economic corruption and called for “swift and just” legal action against financial crimes.

The Leader has described “outright and unequivocal” treatment of economic corruption as one of the Judiciary’s major duties, stressing that confronting economic corrupts must be decisive and effective.

In a meeting with managers of news agencies and the press, Hojjatoleslam Raeesi said that all tastes should be in the society and all should work on institutionalizing law in the country, adding that all are equal before the law and nobody is above the other one.

IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK

He went on to say that if everybody agree that the country should be administered based on the justice, then rule of the law will be the yardstick for implementing the justice.

He then pointed to the role of the media in rule of the law and justice in the society, adding that nobody does not oppose fair criticism and Judiciary welcomes it, too. He also urged the media to respect the red lines which have been set by the legislators and called on the media to respect the Press Law.

Hojjatoleslam Raeesi said that the Judiciary supports free flow of information and supports freedom of expression, urging the media to inject hope into the society and not to play in the court of the enemies.

He also emphasized the need for decent judicial support from all Iranian organizations for the nationals residing abroad.

“The administration and all the sectors and organizations should provide the necessary judicial support for Iranian expatriates, and we should maintain the connection of our fellow countrymen residing abroad with their culture and national customs and traditions,” he added.

He underlined that close interaction with Iranian nationals in other countries would be in conformity with Iran’s policies and benefit both the country’s national security and the expatriates.

The Judiciary chief further described the people of the country as Iran’s main “social asset and major component of power”, saying that the enemies are unable to take action against the Islamic Republic not because they do not intend to, but because they are faced with the Iranian people who safeguard the Islamic Revolution.
