TEHRAN (Iran News) –The 12th edition of the Sacred Defense and Resistance National Book Fair is currently underway in the west-central Iranian city of Hamedan.

The fair is being held simultaneously with the 2nd National Congress of 8,000 Martyrs of Hamedan province, ILNA reported on Monday.

National exhibits like this play a significant role in uplifting the morale of writers, publishers, and storytellers in producing impactful books, the director of Iran Book and Literature House, Ali Ramezani, said.

During the course of the past 11 months, 1,500 books concerning the Sacred Defense have been created, indicating the significance of this exhibition in inspiring writers, motivating storytellers, and encouraging publishers to produce meaningful works, he added.

The inhabitants of Hamedan are not concerned about the lack of visitors to the book exhibition, as the province is at the forefront of producing books on the Sacred Defense, with notable authors and role models in the realm of publishing, he explained.

He noted that 110 publishers are present at the event.

The people of Hamedan have demonstrated their commitment to defending their country, including through the construction of the Museum Garden of Sacred Defense, he mentioned.

The province’s dedication to these efforts led to it being selected as the host for the event this year, he stated.

Ramezani also said that if the spirit of sacrifice and martyrdom takes root in the country, the revolutionary, resistant, and Sacred Defense energies will operate with greater strength.

The exhibition, which spans over 4,000 square meters, will be running until October 13.

The 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq, known as ‘Sacred Defense’ in the Islamic Republic, was launched by the order of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein nearly 19 months after the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

On September 22, 1980, Saddam Hussein launched a massive war on Islamic Republic of Iran that lasted until the summer of 1998. The war martyred hundreds of thousands of Iranian people while defending their country. After eight years of fighting, Iran and Iraq reached an agreement to end the war.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Hamedan, Bukhara to develop sister city partnership. The Iranian city of Hamedan and the Uzbek city of Bukhara will soon sign a sister city agreement in order to develop cultural exchanges and tourism, Hossein Qarabaghi, Member of Hamadan City Council has stated.

A sister city or twin town relationship is a form of legal or social agreement between two geographically and politically distinct localities for the purpose of promoting cultural and commercial ties.

While there are early examples of international links between municipalities akin to what we call today sister cities or twin towns dating back to the 9th Century, the modern concept was first established and adopted worldwide during the Second World War.

By signing the twinning agreement, a platform for cultural cooperation and tourism activities will be provided for Iran and Uzbekistan, Qarabaghi noted, IRNA reported on Sunday.

So far, Hamedan has signed sister city agreements with four cities around the world.

Bukhara is the birthplace of Bu-Ali Sina (Avicenna), a famous Iranian scientist and physician of the 4th and 5th centuries AH, and is the fifth-largest city in Uzbekistan and the capital of Bukhara province.

Known in classical times as Ecbatana, Hamedan was one of the ancient world’s greatest cities. Avicenna mausoleum is located in Hamedan.

The people of Bukhara still speak Persian with the special dialect of Central Asia, which is now known as Tajik Persian.

Iran Records Highest Daily Death Toll From COVID-19

IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK

TEHRAN – Iran has recorded its highest number of deaths from COVID-19 within a 24-hour period, Health Ministry figures showed on Tuesday.

The 200 deaths reported on Tuesday exceed the previous record from Sunday, when the ministry reported 163 deaths in a day.

The Islamic Republic has recorded a total of 11,931 deaths and 245,688 infections from the coronavirus, ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said in a statement on state TV.

Speaking at a presser on Tuesday about the latest data on the Coronavirus, Sima Sadat Lari said, “According to the definitive laboratory findings and from yesterday to today July 07 in the country, 2,637 new patients with COVID-19 were diagnosed and the number of patients with the disease reached 245,688.”

“1,455 of the new patients were hospitalized,” Lari said.

“Fortunately, 207,000 patients have recovered and discharged so far,” She said.

The Spokeswoman said: “Unfortunately, in the past 24 hours, 200 COVID-19 patients have lost their lives, bringing the total death toll to 11,931.”

The official stated: “3,270 patients are in intensive care units.”

“So far, around 1,846,793 COVID-19 diagnostic tests have been conducted in the country,” the Health Ministry spokeswoman said.

According to the spokeswoman, the provinces of Khuzestan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Hormozgan, Bushehr, Khorasan Razavi, East, and West Azerbaijan and Ilam are in a critical situation (Red Status).

The others such as Tehran, Fars, Mazandaran, Hamedan, Zanjan, Sistan and Baluchestan and Alborz are on alert.

Meanwhile yesterday Health Minister Saeed Namaki warned, “Coronavirus is one of the most dangerous and unknown viruses that have entered the human societies, and none of the world’s top virologists have predicted its future.”

Namaki said, “Due to the sanctions and many problems in the country’s economic situation, in the first phase of the disease, we had a difficult period and huge problems, thus with the help of all the people, non-governmental organizations and the sacrifices of the medical staff, we were able to create a great achievement. Death tolls reached about 30 people a day, and we were moving toward single digits mortality.”

“I have said many times that we are playing chess with an unknown virus and normalization of the situation and this delusion that the Coronavirus is over is one of the most dangerous ideas,” Saeed Namaki told reporters, adding: “A new wave has engulfed us in very important and border provinces, West Azerbaijan, Ilam, Khuzestan, Bushehr, Sistan- Baluchistan were affected.”

The Minister of Health said, “Today, we have reached a more favorable situation in provinces such as Kurdistan, Khuzestan, Bushehr, and Kermanshah, but it still does not mean that we have overcome the disease.”

“Wearing a mask and keeping social distancing can make us more than 80 percent immune against Coronavirus. We have to take social distancing seriously and not travel,”

Namaki called on all people to continue to fully and carefully implement health protocols in order to prevent the re-outbreak of the disease.

Warning that elderly people are more vulnerable to the COVID-19, the Health Minister reiterated that it is wrong to think that going to a party and leaving grandparents at home will keep them away and safe from the virus because when their grandchildren return from the party, they transmit the virus.

Deputy Head of Hamedan cultural heritage, handicrafts and tourism office, Hashem Mazaheri, said this week that traditional glassware, ceramics, wooden products, sculptures, and furniture were among the province’s exports last year.

He noted that Lalejin pottery had an 80% share in the province’s handicraft exports during the said period.

Lalejin, which was registered as the world pottery capital in 2016 by UNESCO-affiliated World Crafts Council, is the main center for the production of the earthenware and ceramics in the country.

Iran exported handicrafts worth $427 million during the 11 months to Feb. 19, of which official exports accounted for $237 million.

The figure shows a 13.3% increase in value and an 8% growth in weight compared with the same period of the year before.

However, the official exports fell drastically while suitcase exports came to a total halt in the 12th month of the last fiscal year (Feb. 20-March 19) due to the outbreak of coronavirus.

TEHRAN – Four natural sceneries in northwestern province of Hamedan are nominated for possible inclusion in Department of Environment (DOE) list as national nature monuments and wildlife refuges, Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday.

Alvand Mountain, a subrange of the Zagros Mountains located 10 km southern Hamedan city, and Sarab cave, which is millions of years old, are the two natural heritages nominated as national nature monuments the provincial DOE chief Adel Arabi said.

Arabi went on to add that Khan-Gormaz protected area stretching on 5,000 hectares of land area and Shirinsoo wetland, home to migratory birds, are also proposed to be added to the list as wildlife refuges.

“Currently, the aforesaid areas are listed to be approved by the DOE supreme council,” Adel Arabi said.

Regarding the ecological diversity and value of Hamedan province, as well as close follow-up, the provincial responsible bodies came to an agreement to introduce the four areas for further conservation and protection, he stated.

In Iran, areas protected by the Department of Environment cover 8.2 million hectares which fall into four categories: national parks (11 sites), wildlife refuges (25 sites), protected areas (47 sites), and national nature monuments (5 sites).

Any interference with the protected areas is subject to special regulations, and the DOE is the responsible body which have absolute authority over all of the related organizations.

Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization sees a bright future for Hamedan province that attracted a substantial number of visitors in the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (started on March 21).

Over two million travelers, including some 4,300 foreigners, visited Hamedan during the period, according to Ali Khaksar, a provincial tourism official, ISNA reported.

Thanks to abundant cultural, historical and natural sites, mountainous weather, tourism infrastructure development and a new advertising campaign, the west central province is becoming more popular.

Its capital of the same name is currently taken on appearance of the “capital of Asian tourism in 2018”, a privilege which was approved in the second ACD Tourism Ministers Meeting held in Cambodia, June 2017.

Hamedan will also be hosting a tourism summit of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue from August 27 to 29 that is expected to provide ample opportunities for promotion of tourism.

Known in classical times as Ecbatana, Hamadan was one of the ancient world’s greatest cities. Pitifully little remains from antiquity, but significant parts of the city center are given over to excavations.

Ecbatana was the capital of Media and subsequently a summer residence of the Achaemenian kings who ruled Persia from 553 to 330 BC.

Sitting on a high plain, Hamedan is graciously cool in August but snow prone and freezing from December to March. In summer the air is often hazy.

Ali Sadr cave, Ganjnameh inscriptions, Avicenna mausoleum, Hegmataneh hill, Alaviyan dome, Jameh mosque, and St. Stephanos Gregorian Church are amongst Hamedan’s attractions to name a few.

The CHHTO announced in May that “Iran plans to construct 2,000 new eco-lodges… over half of which to be inaugurated by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2019) and the rest will come on stream by 2021.”

“Tajikistan is after increasing interactions in different areas especially in tourism and economy with Hamedan province,” said Emomzoda Nematullo, the Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Tajik ambassador made the remarks late on Friday while meeting with a host of economy activists, businesspeople, and merchants of Hemedan province.

“Hamedan and Tajikistan have a lot of cultural commonalities and one of the boldest of these communities is the mausoleum of Mir Seyyed Ali Hamedani, renowned Iranian poet, scholar, and mystic which is located in Kulob of Tajikistan.

“In 2018, a delegation from Hamedan province visited Kulob in Tajikistan and following that visit a Tajik delegation attended the 700th birth anniversary of this cultured scholar in Hamedan,” reminded the Tajik diplomat.
