Zarif, Hakim Meet in Baghdad

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met and held talks with Leader of the National Wisdom Movement of Iraq Seyyed Ammar Hakim on Sunday.

The Mohammad Javad Zarif and Ammar Hakim conferred on regional developments as well as the current situation in Iraq and the country’s problems in various sectors, including the economic crisis, the decline in oil revenues, and the spread of COVID-19.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Iranian top diplomat arrived in Baghdad on Sunday morning to hold separate talks with senior Iraqi officials with the aim of strengthening Iran-Iraq relations.

Iranian FM is also scheduled to visit the Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq on Sunday evening to meet with officials in the region.

Hakim Rejects Saudi Invitations to Visit Riyadh Several Times

The kingdom invited Seyed Ammar Hakim for a visit to the Arabian Peninsula country six times, but all requests were rejected, the high-profile official with the movement, who preferred anonymity, told Tasnim in Iraq on Friday.

He added that any potential visit to Riyadh by Hakim would be conditional on resolving the problems of Shiites living in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

The source said visa restrictions for Shiite citizens in the country should be removed so that they can easily travel to Iraq.

The head of the National Wisdom Movement has also called on Saudi officials to arrange a meeting between him and the Bahraini king in a bid to address the problems of the Persian Gulf state’s Shiite population, the official further said.

Both Saudi Arabia and Bahrain have gone to great lengths to clamp down on any sign of dissent. Scores of people have lost their lives and hundreds of others sustained injuries or got arrested as a result of the two regimes’ ongoing crackdown.

Ammar Hakim stresses Iran’s role in Iraq reconstruction

Head of the National Wisdom Movement of Iraq Ammar Hakim says Iran is the most reliable supporter of Iraq in political and security fields, stressing that it must take part in Iraq reconstruction.

Attending a ceremony to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iraqi capital Baghdad, with Iranian ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi in attendance, Ammar Hakim gave a speech about the different dimensions of Imam Khomeini’s personality and the wise leadership of the Iran’s Leader and the unique characteristics of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.

Hakim hailed the achievements of the Islamic Revolution in Iran saying “the Islamic Revolution of Iran has maintained its revolutionary character after 39 years,” relating it to the wise leadership of Iran’s Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Later in his remarks he said that both Imam Khomeini and Imam Khamenei had a profound understanding of the Iraq.

Referring to the relations between Iran and Iraq, the head of the Iraqi National Wisdom Movement described Iran-Iraq relations as ‘special’ adding that no other country’s leaders have lived in Iraq as the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Hakim stated that “over the past 14 years, Iran has always been the most important, the most powerful and the most serious supporter of Iraq in the political and security areas and the fight against ISIL,” stressing the necessity of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s presence in the reconstruction process of post-SIL Iraq.

The head of Iraqi National Wisdom Movement concluded that the Iran’s Islamic Revolution belongs to every Islamic nation and the whole nations in the world.
