According to the official website of the Guardian Council, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari made the remarks in a meeting with the directors and the staff of the Council on Saturday to brief them on the developments in the military and maritime fields.

Sayyari pointed out that the army has intensified its efforts in the southern Makran region on the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf over the past few years in line with the instructions of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.

The military official said that enhancing Iran’s economic and military power in the seas is incorporated in the country’s Sixth Five-Year National Development Plan (March 2021).

He further criticized the lack of paying enough attention to the economic activities in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman despite huge potentials, noting that through planning and taking proper measures, the seas can be very good sources of food, income and power.

Sayyari further referred to Iran’s geostrategic position in the region or even on an international scale, noting “there are 9 strategic waterways in the world, 4 of which are located in the region Iran is situated.”

“That is why Arrogant powers (imperialist powers) seek presence in this region,” he went on to say.

The senior military official continued by saying that Iran is located in the center of the Energy Oval, which contains 90% of world’s gas resources .

“The Islamic Republic’s Navy is ready to escort Adrian Darya 1 oil tanker if it is required by the country’s authorities,” Rear Admiral Sayyari said on Sunday.

He referred to the presence of Iranian Navy in Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, saying that the Islamic Republic’s naval forces have safeguarded over 6,000 vessels passing through international waters and are ready to escort Iranian vessels anytime and anywhere that is needed.

Last week, Commander of the Iranian Army’s Navy Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi had also announced Iran’s readiness to escort the recently-released Adrian Darya 1 if needed, to protect it from any possible illegal measures by foreign forces.

The Iranian oil tanker, previously called Grace 1, left Gibraltar last week, after a month of being unlawfully detained by UK.

Britain’s naval forces unlawfully seized the Grace 1 and its cargo of 2.1 million barrels of oil in the Strait of Gibraltar on July 4 under the pretext that the supertanker had been suspected of carrying crude to Syria in violation of the European Union’s unilateral sanctions against the Arab country.

Tehran, however, rejected London’s claim that the tanker was heading to Syria, slamming the seizure as “piracy.”

“Elements of power’s dependence on waters and unquestioning relation between global economy and maritime security have led acquisitive states to establish modern colonialism through initiating maritime terrorism, displaying insecurity in waters and expanding their power over other nations’ responsibilities by the use of force,” said the high-ranking commander Sunday on Kish Island in the opening ceremony of 2019 International Army Games’ depth competition.

“According to international regulations, littoral states are in charge of providing waters with security. And there is no room for acquisitive powers in the geopolitical region of the Persian Gulf,” he highlighted.

Tensions in the region initially erupted after Washington withdraw from the nuclear deal and imposed economic sanctions on Iran, mainly targeting its oil revenues. US hostile policies didn’t end there as the Trump’s administration designated Iran’s IRGC, which is in charge of providing the Persian Gulf with security, as a foreign terrorist organization and also in their latest measure, imposed sanctions on Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif; a measure which many experts believe to prove the emptiness of US claims about readiness for talks with Iran.

After Iran seized a UK-flagged oil tanker in the Persian Gulf because it had failed to abide by international maritime regulations, US, in another escalatory measure, proposed to establish a coalition in the Persian Gulf claiming it to be aimed at securing international waters but is believed to be a coalition against Iran.

Iran monitors every ship that enters the region from the Indian Ocean and keeps watch on all their movements, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari told IRNA on Tuesday.

“We will not let any movement [of enemies] in Iran’s territorial waters,” said the former Navy commander, adding, “the regional security can be ensured by the regional countries and there is absolutely no need for the help of others in providing security.”

Those who enter the region by the excuse of strengthening security, just undermine this factor wherever they go as they did in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, he added.

On Friday, a US naval fleet including USS John C Stennis aircraft entered the Persian Gulf through Strait of Hormuz. This is the first US aircraft carrier entering the Persian Gulf after US unilateral withdrawal from Iran nuclear deal. The US fleet entrance into the region coincided with the IRGC military drills. According to reports, some 30 IRGC boats trailed the US fleet as it was passing through the strait.

“Be sure that they [US fleet] don’t dare take measures against us. Our approach is to think like the nights of operations; it means we should always be ready,” Sayyari told reporters Monday on the sideline of an event in Tehran, adding, “we will never let the fleet come near Iran’s territorial waters.”

Speaking in a local ceremony held on Thursday, Sayyari said, “undoubtedly, Islamic Republic of Iran, under its wise leadership, can foil conspiracies of enemies waged against the country.”

After the glorious victory of the Islamic Revolution, enemies of the country left no stone unturned and tried their utmost efforts to undermine the true image of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the global arena, he said, adding, “creating ethnic and religious conflicts, launching wave of terror and also an imposed war against the country were of the main goals of enemy to confront with the Establishment in the early years of the Islamic Revolution.”

The enemies do not want to understand that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not tolerate the bullying, hegemony and colonization of others, Sayyari maintained.

“If we fail to resist against the enemies, they will certainly attack the country. In this regard, increasing defensive and military power, as well as promoting spirituality and faith are of the most effective strategies to strengthen deterrence against the enemy.”

Today, the country is practically involved in the soft war, he said, adding, “in the current situation, it is logical to use the Quranic concepts and safeguard values of the Islamic Revolution in the best form possible.”

Imposition of sanctions by US on Iran is one of the threats facing the country and in this regard, US wants to exert more economic pressures against Iran, he said, adding, “we are confident that the country will be able to overcome threats considerably.”

“The armed forces are at the center of economic resistance and they are performing their own duties. Let’s not forget that in a country where there is no security, the economy cannot work properly and there will not be economic prosperity and welfare,” Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Monday in the northwestern city of Tabriz.

“The Armed Forces have established and maintained security so far and will continue to do so and the fact that they rely on themselves in production and supply of all the weapons means that they are helping the government and the economy of the country,” Sayyari said.

Referring to the heavy cost of purchasing weapons from abroad and the domestic ability to build them inside the country, Sayyari said “production of weapons inside the country has saved a large amount of money.

Praising the high level of potential and capability of Iranian military experts in producing military equipment and weapons domestically, he said “Iran’s Navy can build a destroyer at a cost of $45 million, foreign equivalent of which is sold $180 million in global markets.”
