One of the three victims in the Glendale, Arizona, shooting was in critical condition, Officer Tiffany Ngalula said. The other two were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, she said.

When officers arrived on the northern edge of the Westgate Entertainment District shortly after 7:25 p.m. there was no longer active gunfire, Ngalula said.

“Our officers challenged that suspect and were able to safely take that person into custody,” she said. The shooter was unharmed, NBC News reported.

Neighbors and people at the outdoor complex were told to shelter in place as a precautionary search of the area was underway Thursday night, Ngalula said.

Some residents were getting reverse 911 calls advising them to stay inside, she said.

Lights were out in the area at the same time, Ngalula aid. It’s not clear if the outage was related.

The officer asked members of the public who might have recorded videos of the violence or discovered a social media video of a possible suspect to help detectives investigating the attack.

“Any information would be part of the evidence at this time,” Ngalula said.

State Sen. Martin Quezada, D-Phoenix, said on Twitter that he had seen the attack.

“I just witnessed an armed terrorist with an AR-15 shoot up Westgate,” he wrote.

The Westgate Entertainment District includes shops, a theater, and restaurants just north of State Farm Stadium, where the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals play.

The district announced new restaurant hours on May 14 after the state allowed eateries to reopen with new safety protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

As the Department of Public Safety (DPS) unit got the car pulled over, the driver opened fire from its rear window, injuring one trooper, and proceeded moving towards Odessa while shooting at motorists at random.

At some point, the gunman hijacked a postal van from which he continued his shooting spree, sparking a car chase. It came to the showdown between the attacker and police near the Cinergy movie theater at the Music City Mall in Odessa. Videos filmed by witnesses at the scene show the attacker’s truck mounting a curb and police then shooting at the suspect.

Police later confirmed that the attacker was killed on the spot, whose identity and motives are as of yet unknown.

Odessa police Chief Michael Gerke told a news conference that the suspect had been identified as a white male in his mid-thirties. While police said that they “have an idea” about the identity of the shooter, they refused to release any more details until they double-check the information.

At least 21 civilians have suffered gunshot wounds in the rampage, and three law enforcement officers were injured. Five people have been killed. It’s unclear at the moment if the five people who had died are among the 21 injured civilians.

The Saturday rampage occurred as Texas was just recovering from another mass shooting that left 20 people killed in El Paso. The high frequency of mass shootings in the United States has prompted a wave of criticism against Donald Trump’s handling of the incidents and the US’ gun laws.
