TEHRAN (Iran News) – Making investment in the tourism sector is among the main strategies adopted by urban managers of Gorgan, the capital of the northern province of Golestan, the city’s mayor said.

Speaking at a meeting with the visiting chief executive officer and some members of the Italian Tourism Education Institute, Abdolreza Dadboud said investment projects to restore the city’s old section and establish gondola lift and an amusement park are being implemented in Gorgan, IRNA reported.

“We welcome participation of European investors in the tourism projects,” he added

Stephano Santes, CEO of the Italian Tourism Education Institute said, for his part, that the implementation of responsible tourism principles in the region would help preserve local traditions and cultures.

He added that the arrival of Italian and other European investors in the region will lead to the establishment of income-generating companies, noting it will also help create job opportunities in the city and enhance cultural ties between the two countries.

Responsible tourism is any form of tourism that can be conducted in a more responsible way, and minimizes negative social, economic, and environmental impacts.

Situated in northeastern Iran, Golestan Province is one of the best tourist destinations of the country in view of its enchanting natural attractions, wide ethnic diversity and numerous historical sites.

The province is home to international wetlands, dense forests, bubbling springs, and tens of waterfalls.

Golestan is undoubtedly one of the greenest regions of Iran. Peaceful coexistence among ethnic groups including Baluchis, Kazakhs, and Sistanis is yet another source of attraction in the province.

A number of dialects are spoken in Golestan while people wear an array of attires in different designs and colors.

TEHRAN – The seventh archaeological season on the Great Wall of Gorgan has recently kicked off to shed new light on the gigantic monument stretched in northern Iran.

A team of archaeologists and cultural heritage experts led by Prof. Mohammad Mortezaei has commenced new surveys to examine sections of the wall which are located in Hyrcania, Mehr reported on Sunday.

Built between 420s and 530s CE, the Great Wall of Gorgan served as a defense system stretched along southeastern parts of the Caspian Sea near modern Gorgan in Golestan Province.

The wall stretches for almost 200 km and is dotted by a total of 38 forts. It is the longest fort-lined ancient barrier between Central Europe and China, it is longer than Hadrian’s Wall and the Antonine Wall put together.

In some archeological sources, the Great Wall of Gorgan is referred to as the Red Snake due to the color of its bricks. It dates from Sasanian-era (224 to 651 CE).
