TEHRAN – The Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces slammed the enemy’s bid for negotiations with Iran as a tactic to force the Islamic Republic to surrender to the U.S.

Addressing a videoconference on civil defense on Monday, Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri dismissed the idea of negotiations with the US as a nonstarter.

“The enemy’s purpose is to make the Iranian nation cave in to the strategies and polices imposed by the U.S.,” the general warned.

“They want to bring Iran to the negotiating table, but the result of such negotiations has been already determined, and that is Iran’s surrender to the U.S.,” Major General Baqeri added.

The top commander underscored that capitulation runs completely counter to the goals of the Islamic Republic.

He then highlighted the significant position of Southwest Asia in determining the world leadership.

Referring to the geopolitical and geostrategic theories, which term some points in the world as “geopolitical heartlands and pivots,” the top commander said, “Today, there is no doubt that the pyramid of world power in Southwest Asia determines world supremacy and leadership.”

“Any power that can dominate this region will stand at the top of this pyramid,” he added.

Baqeri noted, “The Islamic Revolution was formed [in 1979] in an extremely sensitive region, and it has been following its divine goals and ideals and valuable mottos, such as revealing the role of external domination, supporting the oppressed and self-reliance of the Iranian nation.”

Therefore, he added, it is normal that the country is facing multiple threats on its path by those trying to dominate the region.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran, without any expectation of interest from neighbors, has relied solely on its religious and revolutionary principles to seek to take control of its own affairs and reach self-reliance.”

He underlined the country’s undisputed will to continue the path of development, stressing that no threat can ever stop the Iranian nation from realizing such a goal.

Baqeri said that enemies’ threats are no more military in nature but rather in cyber, technology, and chemical ones so Iran’s Civil Defense must be fully ready to identify and counter them.

He added that it is not clear whether the coronavirus, which Iran and the world are challenging with, is a threat or a natural phenomenon to fight with.

Iran’s Civil Defense Organization is a place to cooperate and connect the organizations, government, and armed forces altogether.

He noted that Civil Defense helps Armed Forces against enemies’ threats which are changing continuously.

In a congratulatory message on Saturday, the senior Iranian general also pointed to the current conditions in the international community following the outbreak of the coronavirus, stressing the need to promote cordial cooperation among governments, nations, and military forces in the battle with the pandemic.

He also noted that the coronavirus outbreak has provided an ideal opportunity for Muslim countries to express the values and excellence of the Islamic culture and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and to show the world the fortitude and cooperation of Muslims in dealing with the disasters and tackling the problems in human communities.

Earlier this month, Major General Baqeri sent messages to his counterparts and the defense ministers of Iraq, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Syria, and Lebanon to offer help in handling the coronavirus pandemic.

“The Iranian Armed Forces are prepared to exchange the experiences that have been achieved and offer them to the officials of friendly and brotherly countries,” the general said in the message.

He also warned that a failure to cope with the virus in a correct and scientific manner could increase the spread of the disease and threaten the health of nations.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s successful performance in controlling the virus could provide solutions for other Islamic nations and friendly and neighboring states,” the top commander added.

In a telephone conversation with Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday, Major General Baqeri called on the Pakistani Army officials to take decisive action for the release of three Iranian border guards who have been held hostage by the so-called Jaish-ul-Adl terrorist group since October 2018.

The top Iranian general also stressed the need for the two Muslim neighbors to strengthen security measures along the common border to prevent the terrorist groups and the common enemies from upsetting security at the border.

Major General Baqeri then pointed to the growing trend in the brotherly ties between the armed forces of the two countries and voiced Iran’s preparedness to enhance “defense-economic cooperation” with Pakistan.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa, for his part, gave a brief report on Pakistan’s measures to construct barriers along the common border with Iran.

He also called for closer military cooperation with Iran and the exchange of experts to ensure border security and prevent terrorist activities along the common borders.

Pakistani-based terrorists kidnapped 14 Iranian forces at a border post in Mirjaveh region in Iran’s southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan in October 2018.

The Iranian military forces along the southeastern border areas are frequently attacked by terrorist groups coming from Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Tehran has frequently asked the two neighbors to step up security at the common border to prevent terrorist attacks on Iranian forces.

According To Iran News, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri lauded the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) for playing a key role in the development of Iran in various areas and giving people assistance in hard times.

In a letter on Tuesday, Major General Baqeri congratulated IRGC Commander Major General Hossein Salami on the anniversary of foundation of the IRGC.

The name of the IRGC is shining on the peaks of national might, dignity and progress, he said, paying tribute to the IRGC forces for helping meet the needs of the Iranian nation on all fronts.

“The IRGC is shining in defense, security and cultural areas as well as in eliminating poverty and assisting people,” the top general added, IFP reported.

He also noted that the IRGC has raised the flag of awakening and the campaign against hegemony.

“Devoted and brave IRGC personnel have given their lives to safeguard the Revolution, religion, the Islamic Establishment and lofty ideals of Islam as well as Iran’s independence, power and national security” to protect the country against enemy plots, he underscored.

According To Iran News, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said the country’s military forces are closely monitoring all movements by the US military in the region.

“What took place against US bases in Iraq in the past weeks was a natural reaction by Iraqi people to (Washington’s) evil act to assassinate Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani and commander of Iraq’s resistance forces Abu Mahdi al-Mohandis,” Major General Baqeri said on Thursday.

Washington has blamed Kata’ib Hezbollah, which is a major PMU (Popular Mobilization Units) faction, for about a dozen rocket attacks against American troops based in Iraq over the past few months. The group has denied any role in such raids, saying if Kata’ib Hezbollah decided to launch attacks, it had no fear of making the news public.

The top Iranian general rejected reports and claims that the Islamic Republic was involved in the strikes against the US bases.

“The incidents had nothing to do with us and Americans are trying to pin them on us as part of their blame game  (against the Islamic Republic),” he said.

Major General Baqeri further noted that the country’s military forces were closely monitoring all movements by US troops in the region, warning of “harshest response” if Iran’s security is threatened.

The remarks came after US President Donald Trump claimed on Wednesday that Iran was about to launch an attack on US troops occupying Iraq.

“Upon information and belief, Iran or its proxies are planning a sneak attack on US troops and/or assets in Iraq,” claimed the American commander-in-chief on Twitter. “If this happens, Iran will pay a very heavy price, indeed.”

The US has transferred its military equipment from Iraq to an area near the Syrian city of al-Hasakah, a report by Syria’s official news agency said. A convoy of 20 trucks, loaded with US logistical materials used in military engineering fortifications, took the equipment to a place near al-Hasakah, the report said.

The US forces have in recent months moved thousands of trucks loaded with weapons, logistics and military equipment to al-Hasakah through illegal entry points.

According To Iran News, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri congratulated his Christian counterparts on the occasion of Christmas and the New Year.

In separate messages to his Christian counterparts on Tuesday, Major General Baqeri congratulated them on the birthday anniversary of Jesus Christ, “the messenger of peace and friendship”, and on the beginning of the new year in the Gregorian calendar.

“Undoubtedly, the return of humanity to the blessed teachings of the great prophets of God and strengthening of the spirit of friendship, empathy, and interaction among nations would bring about the establishment of global peace and stability and humanity’s inclination to truth and justice,” the message read.

The top commander further wished his counterparts health and success and the people and armed forces of their countries prosperity.

Christmas or Christmas Day is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ, celebrated generally on December 25 as a religious and cultural holiday by millions of people around the world.

According To Iran News, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri highlighted the country’s major role in protecting the security of the Persian Gulf region and said the Islamic Republic’s deterrent power is well-known across the world.

In a message released on Thursday marking the National Navy Day, Major General Baqeri offered his congratulations on the occasion, which he said reminds the nation of a “lasting and wonderful epic”.

He pointed to the operation Morvarid in 1980, in which the Navy gained a major victory during the Iraqi imposed war on Iran, and said 40 years after the “glorious” operation, the Armed Forces’ deterrent power has earned them a well-deserved reputation throughout the world.

“Friends and foes acknowledge the undeniable fact that our country’s deterrence and maritime defense power…, is the harbor of sustainable stability and security in the strategic region of the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of Oman,” the top general went on to say.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.

Back in February 2018, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called for efforts to maintain and boost Iran’s defense capabilities, hitting back at the enemies for disputing the country’s missile program.

“Without a moment of hesitation, the country must move to acquire whatever is necessary for defense, even if the whole world is opposed to it,” Ayatollah Khamenei said at the time.
