TEHRAN (Iran News) – A top commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has reaffirmed his country’s resolve to avenge the assassination of Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, calling it a certainty.

Speaking at an event in the southwestern city of Shiraz on Wednesday, Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the naval unit of the IRGC, said Americans have been sending messages to Iran, asking it to abandon its vow to avenge the assassination of the celebrated anti-terror commander.

In return, they have offered to lift cruel sanctions on Iran, he said, calling it “wishful thinking”.

“They constantly send messages saying they will offer rewards and remove certain sanctions if we give up seeking revenge for Soleimani,” he said. “But this is wishful thinking. The Leader of the Islamic Revolution insists on taking revenge, and the IRGC commander has said that revenge is inevitable.”

He, however, said that “the time and place for it” will be determined by Iran.

Tangsiri said all those involved in the assassination of Gen. Soleimani’s “will be brought to justice,” quoting the Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei: “God-willing, they will surely be punished for their filthy act in this world.”

Gen. Soleimani, who headed the IRGC’s Quds Force, and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy head of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), were assassinated along with their associates in a US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

The midnight strike led to dramatic developments in the region and brought the two countries to the brink of direct military confrontation.

The U.S. terrorist attack drew a wave of condemnation from officials and resistance movements across the region and sparked massive protests throughout the world.

Less than a week later, IRGC fired a volley of missiles on the US-run Ain al-Assad airbase in Iraq’s western province of Anbar, which resulted in severe brain injuries to American forces stationed there.

The leader of the Islamic Revolution termed it a “slap” on the face of Americans while insisting that actual revenge was to come later, which will be determined by Iran.

Tangsiri said the enemy had thought they succeeded in eliminating Gen. Soleimani, “but you can see how Haj Ghassem has gained popularity all over the world”, she asserted.

Both anti-terror commanders were admired across the world for playing a key role in decimating the US-sponsored Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.

The remarks by IRGC’s navy commander came days after Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh asserted that “perpetrators, officials, accomplices and advisers” in the dastardly act “will not go unpunished”, insisting that “these people must be brought to justice.”

Tehran says no agreement will be struck in Vienna until there is total consensus on the main points of discussion.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Speaking in a televised interview late on Sunday, Mohammad Javad Zarif said, “As a person who has always worked in the field of peace and negotiation, I truly consider General Soleimani, not just a champion of the fight against terrorists, but also a hero in peace-making efforts.”

The interview was made on the first martyrdom anniversary of Lt. Gen. Ghasem Soleimani and Second-in-Command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was assassinated at Baghdad International Airport on Jan. 3, 2020, by the US terrorists.

The top diplomat referred to his tenure as Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, saying that back then, he enjoyed Soleimani’s advice for negotiations.

The General’s advice was always “useful”, Zarif added.

General Soleimani had a distinguished character, who gave importance to ending any struggle, namely wars in Afghanistan and Syria, Zarif said, noting that every peace proposal that Iran suggested for the regional developments, Soleimani proposed and supported them.

“Hajj Ghasem’s consultations were always useful to me, and I really didn’t take any advice from other people. Once I asked the Supreme Leader to allow Hajj Ghasem to personally participate in the session, and I was sure the talks would have been much more successful with him in attendance,” he added.

Zarif further praised Soleimani’s personal characteristics, describing him as a person who cared about people’s lives, reputation, and end of conflicts.

“Any peace plan I pursued had definitely been devised by Hajj Ghasem; he both encouraged us and helped us with the follow-ups,” he added.

Zarif then highlighted the significant role played by General Soleimani in the 2001 Bonn Conference, which resulted in an agreement on the re-creation of the State of Afghanistan following the US invasion of the country.

“Martyr Soleimani played a more important role in Tehran by holding talks with all jihadi groups of Afghanistan, to convince them to accept an equation which could shape a new future for Afghanistan in the years to come,” he noted.

US Should Leave Iraqi Soil : Ammar Hakim

According To Iran News, Leader of Iraq’s National Wisdom Movement Seyed Ammar al-Hakim deplored the US moves to undermine the Arab country’s national sovereignty and said the American forces should leave Iraqi soil.

Speaking to Tasnim, Hakim pointed to the US government’s move to assassinate Iran’s revered commander, Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, and his comrades last month and said, “The most important revenge for this great martyr’s blood is to continue his path and accomplish the goals for which he sacrificed his life.”

“In Iraq, we believe that foreign military forces should leave the sacred territory of Iraq,” the cleric said.

“The Iraqi national sovereignty and political independence should be achieved at the hands of the brave children of the Iraqi nation,” the resistance figure went on to say.

General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha’abi (PMU), and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport on January 3.

The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassination of General Soleimani in Iraq, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump.

In reaction to the assassinations, the Iraqi parliament voted to remove US troops from the Arab country.

In an extraordinary session on January 5, the Iraqi lawmakers backed a resolution to ask the government to end an agreement with Washington to station 5,200 troops in Iraq.
