TEHRAN (Iran News) –Head of National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC) has said with the implementation of new overhaul operations at the company’s gas infrastructure, over 10 million cubic meters (mcm) has been added to the country’s daily gas supply capacity.

According to the official, the overhaul operation of the LNG 1000 gas complex was carried out by NISOC experts over the course of 45 days to make the complex ready for the winter peak consumption period, IRNA reported.

Natural gas consumption in Iran surges every year during the cold season and the Oil Ministry along with its subsidiaries including the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) take the necessary measures to ensure a sustained supply of gas during the winter.

Renovation of important and vital parts and equipment of gas refineries and complexes is one of the important priorities in this regard that is carried out in major gas-rich regions every year.

This year, the country’s gas consumption in the domestic and commercial sectors is predicted to reach 650 mcm per day in the first month of the winter (Dec. 22, 2022-Jan. 20, 2023), the head of the state-run National Iranian Gas Company’s Dispatching Department said.

“Currently, an average of 600 mcm of gas are consumed daily in the domestic and commercial sectors. According to the forecast of Iran Meteorological Organization, the temperature will decrease in January, which will lead to the rise in gas consumption by households, offices and businesses that use the fuel for heating purposes,” Mohammadreza Jolaei was also quoted as saying by IRNA.

“The current gas consumption has increased by 60 mcm per day compared with the same period of last year,” he added.

During the previous year’s cold season, despite the unprecedented increase in natural gas consumption in the country, the gas industry was able to register a record high in terms of gas supply during the peak consumption period.

The consumption of natural gas by the domestic and commercial sectors reached 662 mcm in January to register a new record high in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20).

NIGC and all its subsidiaries were seriously working a few months before the winter to ensure the sustained supply of gas during the cold season.

With a nominal capacity of over 1,000 mcm, Iran is currently producing over 810 mcm of natural gas on a daily basis which is mostly used inside the country for the domestic sector and also as fuel for the power plants and a small portion is also exported to neighboring countries like Iraq.

Currently, about 30,000 villages with 4.6 million households as well as 1,148 cities with over 18 million households are connected to the national gas network in Iran.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Gas refineries fully ready for sustained supply in winter. Head of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC)’s Production Coordination and Supervision Directorate has said the country’s natural gas refineries are completely ready for the sustained supply of gas in the cold season, Shana reported.

Masoud Zardovian said the annual overhaul program of the country’s refineries is progressed over 65 percent, explaining: “During the first seven months of the year, an intensive overhaul program is defined and implemented at a specific schedule for the 18 gas refineries that are now operational so that we can get through the winter smoothly.”

“By implementing this program, which aims to maintain the system in an efficient condition, the reliability of the refineries will increase, and in this way, we can maximize the amount of processing and ensure that clean, safe, and efficient gas is supplied to various sectors,” he added.

Stating that the overhaul of gas refineries began in the first Iranian calendar month of Farvardin (started on March 21) and will continue until the end of the seventh calendar month of Mehr (October 22), Zardovian said: “Obviously, timely repairs will be promising for sustainable gas production in winter.”

“Due to the preparations, risk assessments and technical inspections using the latest equipment, the overhaul time has been continuously improving in recent years, and now we are able to allocate the least possible time to such operations in order to be able to have the maximum amount of production,” the official explained.

He noted that out of the country’s total 18 gas refineries (12 South Pars gas refineries and six gas refining companies), the overhaul operations of 10 refineries have been completed and the repairs of the other five are also underway and will be completed by the beginning of the cold season.

“We have made the necessary arrangements and made the necessary predictions. All our colleagues in the production, processing and distribution sectors are ready to deliver this clean, safe, stable and sustainable energy to all people, even in remote rural areas, so that we do not see pressure drops or gas outages at any point,” Zardovian said.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Zanganeh inaugurates gas supply projects in 6 provinces. Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, on Thursday, inaugurated numerous gas supply projects with a total investment of 63.31 trillion rials (about $1.5 billion) in six provinces through video conference, Shana reported.

As reported, with the mentioned projects going operational, natural gas was supplied to 21 cities, 2,809 villages, and 4,664 industrial units in West Azarbaijan, Lorestan, Fars, South Khorasan, Kerman, and Khuzestan provinces.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) officials, as well as senior officials from the mentioned provinces.

The minister also inaugurated four units of gas pressure boosting facilities worth 65.86 trillion rials (about $1.56 billion) in Khuzestan and Fars provinces.

According to the Iranian Oil Ministry, over 88 percent of the country’s rural areas are supplied with natural gas through the national network, and more than 95 percent of the country’s total population is enjoying natural gas through the national network.

Currently, over 32,000 villages across Iran are enjoying natural gas through the national network and the number is planned to reach 40,000 by the end of the current fiscal year (March 2022).

Over the past seven years, more than 290 trillion rials (nearly $7 billion) has been allocated by the government to connect over 18,000 new rural areas with over 1.6 million households to the national gas network.

In Iran, where villages account for generating 20-23 percent of the value-added in the country, the development of rural areas has been always a top agenda of the governments’ activities.

Back in November 2020, the NIGC managing director had announced that gas will be supplied to 40,000 villages throughout the country by the end of the current year.

Hassan Montazer Torbati stated that gas supply has been developed in the cities and villages of the country since seven years ago due to the increase in gas production in the South Pars gas field (Iran shares with Qatar in the Persian Gulf).

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) has offered Turkey to extend a gas supply contract between the two countries beyond 2025 and is waiting for Ankara’s official response.

NIGC Managing Director Hassan Montazer-Torbati expressed hope that Iran and Turkey could begin serious talks on extending the gas supply contract after a relative ease in the situation surrounding the coronavirus pandemic, Press TV reported.

Torbati said authorities from the two neighboring countries had held video talks in recent days to discuss the issue.

“We are waiting for their response although we still have enough time,” said the Oil Ministry official.

He said Iran’s supply of natural gas to Turkey slightly increased year-on-year in October despite a three-month halt caused to exports due to a pipeline explosion in the Turkish territory in late March.

Torbati said Iran was also mulling a further increase in its gas exports to Iraq, a country which he said had taken delivery of larger than expected supplies of Iranian gas over the summer.

He said a Monday trip by Central Bank of Iran Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati to Baghdad could solve problems related to Iraq’s due payments on Iranian gas supplies.

Commenting on a stalled gas exports deal involving Pakistan, Torbati said Iran is still hopeful that Pakistan would move to prevent a dispute settlement on the issue by committing to its part of the deal.

“The issue of gas exports to Pakistan is being pursued from the diplomatic and legal aspects. All documents and evidence are ready but we have yet to conclude to go to arbitration,” he said.
