Indigenization of equipment saves Iranian gas industry $19m a year

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The indigenization of the knowledge for the production of equipment and materials needed in the gas industry is saving Iran $19 million every year, an official with the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) announced.

“Currently, more than 90 percent of adsorbents, more than 95 percent of catalysts, and over 90 percent of solvents and chemicals needed in the gas industry have been localized,” Head of NIGC’s Production Coordination and Supervision Directorate Masoud Zardovian said.

Speaking in a seminar on coordinating supply and demand in the gas industry on Saturday, Zadovian said: “We are now looking to improve the quality of products, and to facilitate access to them while making prices more competitive.”

He pointed to the sustained and safe supply of clean gas for the consumers as the major ax of his company’s activities and said: “All the major policies of the company are defined and determined according to the mentioned goal.”

Going hand in hand with the oil industry, the Iranian gas sector has been enjoying drastic technological advances in recent years, and numerous knowledge-based companies, research centers, and institutes have become active to help the industry reach its goals of self-sufficiency.

The growth in the mentioned sector is so fast-pacing that according to the NIGC Head Hassan Montazer Torbati the country’s gas industry will become completely self-sufficient by 2024.

The indigenization and domestic production of oil and gas industry equipment has been always among the objectives of the Iranian Oil Ministry. However, the issue became further highlighted since the re-imposition of the U.S. sanctions and Washington’s determination for cutting off the Islamic Republic’s ties with the world advances in knowledge and technology, especially in the oil and gas sector.

In the past few years, the ministry has been seriously supporting knowledge-based companies and startups, and several events, exhibitions, and panels have been held in this regard to encourage the mentioned companies’ contribution to the country’s oil and gas industry.

In June 2019, NIGC held a reverse pitch panel to address the industry’s technological issues and to benefit from the capabilities and capacities of the knowledge-based companies and academics active in the industry.

7% Increase in Iran’s Gas Refinery Output in Six Months

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Fajr Jam Gas Refining Company has increased its gas production in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21 to September 21, 2020), said a senior official at the refinery on Wednesday.

According to the CEO of the refinery Abdolsamad Najafi, “Refining and production of natural gas as the main product of this company has increased by seven percent compared to the same period last year,” Iranian Oil Ministry’s website Shana reported.

Najafi added there had been production enhancements in all other items produced by the plant.

Referring to the overhaul operations in the refinery, he said, “Fortunately, all activities are going as planned and the refinery is ready for maximum production in the winter.”

Najafi emphasized on compliance with the health, safety and environment (HSE) measures and health protocols in the overhaul of the company, noting, “The efforts of the employees of this company are sustainable production in the second half of the year to deliver gas to people’s homes without any disruption.”

He further said that production of gas condensate as a very valuable product in Fajr Jam Gas Refining has also increased by 30% in the said period.

Fajr Jam Gas Refinery (in Bushehr Province) is one of the oldest and biggest gas refineries in the country, which became operational in 1988 after Nar-Kangan gas fields were launched.

South Pars: Loading capacity of gas condensate to rise

TEHRAN (Iran News) – According to an official with the South Pars development project, the installation of new tankers will increase gas condensate loading capacity of the field.

The deputy head of the South Pars Phase 19 development project announced the arrival of a tanker ship equipped with single point mooring (SPM) in Assaluyeh, southern Iran, which would augment gas condensate loading capacity of the field, SHANA reported on Saturday.

According to Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), Hossein Azimi said the loading system had berthed at the jetty of Pars port on Saturday, April 25, 2020, with a capacity of 7,000 square meters per hour of loading capacity.

Single point mooring (SPM) is a floating buoy/jetty anchored offshore to allow handling of liquid cargo such as petroleum products for tanker ships. SPM is mainly used in areas where a dedicated facility for loading or unloading liquid cargo is not available. Located at a distance of several kilometers from the shore-facility and connected using sub-sea and sub-oil pipelines, these single point mooring (SPM) facilities can even handle vessels of massive capacity such as VLCC.

Single point mooring (SPM) serves as a link between the shore-facilities and the tankers for loading or off-loading liquid and gas cargo.

He said the installation of the SPM would be complete by September.

Currently, gas condensate produced at South Pars is loaded by two SPMs in phase 12.
