TEHRAN (Iran News) – Artists from Iran, Turkey, Nigeria, Mexico join at “Polychromatic”. Five artists from Iran, Turkey, Nigeria and Mexico will showcase their latest works in an exhibition entitled “Polychromatic” at the Daniel Raphael Gallery in London next week.

Curated by Tima Jam, the month-long exhibition opens on July 1 exhibiting works by Salman Khoshru and Milad Musavi from Iran, Mustafa Horasan from Turkey, Olamide Ogunade Olisco from Nigeria and Horacio Quiroz from Mexico.

In an Instagram post, the gallery said, “Each artist explores notions of identity and the self through their own inventive use of color.

“The concept of identity and perception of the self is perhaps now more pertinent than ever.

“Throughout art history, color has been used in artworks to help create a sense of identity, by conveying intangible concepts such as emotions, dreams and mental states.

“Drawing on the theoretical framework of surrealism and seminal psychoanalytic studies, this exhibition aims to engage viewers with the subconscious perceptions of the self through artworks that utilize color to reveal emotion and expressivity.”

In his collection of deformed portraits, Khoshru has featured very emotional expressions, while Musavi mixes some media such as cinema and animation to showcase the subject of identity in his artworks.

Horasan’s artworks provide a deep insight into the issues concerning capitalism, social media and global economic inequality.

The artworks by Ogunade Olisco and Quiroz also represent the concept of indemnity in Africa and Latin America.

All the artists have organized many exhibitions in their homelands and prestigious art centers across the world.

Founded in 2016 by Daniel Levy, the Daniel Raphael Gallery is dedicated to emerging contemporary art.

By its exhibitions, the gallery intends to be interactive, thought-provoking and original.

The gallery has said that it aims to act as a platform for an international range of emerging and mid-career artists to establish themselves in the art world.

Over 250 cartoons, caricature and posters from artists in 64 countries are on view at the exhibition.

The displayed works are mostly from Iran, China, Turkey, Indonesia, the United States of America, Argentina, Australia, Austria and Italy.

The works have been selected from over 2100 submissions by a jury of artists from Iran, Brazil and Russia.

Mohammad-Hossein Nirumand, Masud Nejabati and Mohammadreza Doostmohammadi are the Iranian members of the jury, which also includes Brazilian cartoonist Silvano Mello and Russian artist Alexander Faldin.

Also included in the exhibit are video arts on Mohsen Hojaji, an Iranian soldier who was killed by Daesh forces in Syria.

The video arts have been created by Amir Dastmardi, Abolfazl Khosravi and Abdollah Haji seyyed Hassan.

An announcement from Major General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Quds Force who declared the end of Daesh (ISIS) in November 2017, provided inspiration for the Art Bureau to organize the competition in collaboration with Revayate Fat’h Foundation.

Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud, Donald Trump, Benjamin Netanyahu and Aung San Suu Kyi are the main themes in the caricature category.

The liberation of Mosul in Iraq and Aleppo in Syria are the central themes of the cartoon section.

The exhibition will come to an end on June 2 by honoring the winners.

TEHRAN – A permanent gallery has opened for a collection by master miniaturist Ali Esfarjani at the Negarestan Garden Museum of the University of Tehran.

His widow, Fatemeh Karimnejad, cut the ribbon to launch the exhibition as his daughter, Shahrzad, UT Deputy Director for Cultural Affairs Majid Sarsangi and film expert Akbar Aalami attended the opening ceremony held last Thursday.

“I hope this gallery be preserved for future generations,” Sarsangi said at the ceremony and added, “I also hope future generations visit this gallery to learn lessons from Esfarjani and also enjoy the great spirit of each work on display at the showcase.”

Aalami who has made a documentary about Esfarjani said that Esfarjani was an excellent example of those artists who achieved a proper understanding of Iranian mysticism.

“Like many other of our art pioneers, he had an in-depth knowledge of Persian literature. He had an ordinary life, but he never worked for money and fame, therefore his works are priceless,” he stated.

Shahrzad said that one of her father’s dreams came true by establishing the gallery.

“I was in a wonderful mood this morning, because I felt like that I was going to my father’s new home,” she added.

The collection is composed of 20 miniature paintings that Esfarjani donated to the University of Tehran before his death.

Earlier in August, an exhibition of the artworks was organized at the Negarestan Garden Museum.
