TEHRAN (Iran News) –Foreign Minister Hossein AmiraAbdollahian has highlighted the importance of development and stability in the Balkans, saying Tehran extends its hand of friendship to all countries in that region.

Speaking to reporters in Belgrade following a meeting with his Serbian counterpart Ivica Dacic on Sunday, Amirabdollahian said Iran supports the territorial integrity of all Balkan countries, including Serbia.

“We wish for the growth, development, unity and stability of the entire Balkan region,” he said. “Considering the historical record of Iran’s relations with the Balkan region, we extend a hand of friendship to all the countries of that region.”

Amirabdollahian congratulated the 85th anniversary of the establishment of ties between the two countries, saying his visit to Belgrade was taking place at the official invitation of his Serbian counterpart

Iran and Serbia have maintained constructive relations and seek to further expand ties in all fields, he said.

In talks with the Serbian foreign minister, he continued, a wide range of issues pertaining to bilateral, regional and international cooperation were discussed.

The top Iranian diplomat added that Tehran is ready to host the 16th session of the two countries’ joint commission in the near future.

Elsewhere in the presser, Amirabdollahian said the United States and some Western countries provoked the recent unrest in Iran to force Tehran to give concessions in the talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

The Iranian foreign minister emphasized that foreign forces have interfered and abused the riots, but the Iranian people have managed to achieve success in the “hybrid war” waged against their country.

Amirabdollahian pointed out that Iran is a democratic country, adding, “We hear and respond to the peaceful demands of the noble Iranian people on various issues but we do not allow anyone to [incite] riots and [carry out] act of terror in our country.”

Pointing to his Saturday phone call with European Union Foreign Policy chief Josep Borrell, Amirabdollahian once again reiterated the country’s stance on achieving an endurable agreement that serves its national interests.

“I talked with Mr. Borrell about the agreement to lift the sanctions and I emphasized that only a deal that works well for the interests of the Iranian nation and is permanent is valuable to Iran,” he said.

Meanwhile on Monday, Amirabdollahian held talks with Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić.

Referring to the meeting of the presidents of the two countries on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Amirabdollahian emphasized the necessity of implementing the agreements made between the two countries.

He expressed hope that the promotion of cooperation between the two countries will provide the necessary ground for the development of the relations between Iran and Serbia.

Iranian foreign minister also announced the readiness of Iran to hold the 16th round of the cooperation commission between the two countries in Tehran, expressing hope that with the provision of the necessary mechanisms within the framework of this round of the joint commission, the ground for improving relations in various dimensions will be provided.

Referring to the 85th anniversary of relations between the two countries, Ana Brnabić, for her part, emphasized the need to take steps in accordance with the capacities of the two countries in various fields of relations.

The Prime Minister of Serbia considered the field of scientific-academic cooperation, agriculture, and energy to be ready for the promotion of cooperation between the two countries.

She also voiced the readiness of the Serbian government to promote cooperation in the mentioned fields.

Cooperation between the two countries in the fields of culture, parliamentary diplomacy, tourism, science and agriculture were among the other topics raised by Iran’s foreign minister and Serbian prime minister.

Iran’s top diplomat arrived in the Serbian capital of Belgrade on Sunday evening at the official invitation of his counterpart for holding bilateral talks with the Serbian authorities.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The six rival presidential contenders, namely Amir-Hossein Ghazizadeh-Hashemi, Mohsen Mehr-Alizadeh, Alireza Zakani, Naser Hemmati, Saeed Jalili and Mohsen Rezaei, met on Wednesday morning with President-elect Ebrahim Raisi.

The visit took place upon and an invitation by Raisi. The president-elect called the meeting “very good”.

At the meeting, Raisi said now that the election competition is over and the era of “friendship, cooperation and empathy” has begun all groups should join hands toward resolving the problems.

“We had a very good meeting with the presidential candidates, and we hope that such empathetic attitudes will lead to resolving the problems and undoing the knots in people’s lives,” Raisi said, according to Press TV.

Raisi said his former rivals expressed their views and proposals on the priorities that they assumed his administration should follow up on during the one month left until his swearing-in ceremony.

The presiding board of the parliament has announced that the swearing-in ceremony will take place on August 5.

In the final days leading to the June 18 presidential election, Jalili and Zakani dropped out of the race in favor of Raisi. Mehr-Alizadeh also withdrew candidacy without openly backing Hemmati whose views were close to each other.

Raisi defeated the remaining three candidates, securing a landslide victory. He won over 62 percent of the votes.

Raeisi said different solutions were explored for resolving the country’s problems, some of which had already been raised in the election debates.

“All the friends are concerned about the country, the Revolution, resolving problems, and undoing the knots in people’s lives, which is very important,” he pointed out.

Writing on his Twitter account after the meeting, Hemmati, an economist who headed the central bank for about two years, said he suggested short-term plans to provide foreign currency for basic commodities, controlling liquidity, and finding ways for budget deficit in the current Iranian year (March 2021-March 2022).

Hemmati also said in the meeting there was no talk of insults and it was an opportunity for him to again express his views based on economic science.

TEHRAN – Director of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan on Tuesday described the border between Iran and Pakistan as “border of peace and friendship.”

In a press conference in Tehran, Asif Ghafoor, who is also the spokespersons of the Pakistan Army, said his country shares some 900-kilometer long border with Iran and the two “brotherly countries” have been living in peace with each other.

The remarks followed after Pakistani Chief of Army Staff Qamar Javed Bajwa led a military delegation to Tehran for a three-day visit. He met with top Iranian officials including Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Baqeri and President Rouhani.

Asif Ghafoor also said the meetings between Pakistani and Iranian officials were “candid” and “positive” and the two sides exchanged “professional views and ideas.”

Issues such as “better coordination” at border areas and “Iran’s strategy to fence borders with Pakistan” were discussed, the Pakistan Army spokesman added.

Back in 2011, Iran began constructing a long fence along its borders with Pakistan as part of a broader strategy to block entry of drug-traffickers and terrorists into the country.

The Army spokesman reassured that Pakistan “never has” and “never will” allow any activities to take place on its soil against Iran.

Pointing to Iran-Pakistan friendly relations, he said security forces of the two states can join hands in “fighting terrorists.”

Iran and Pakistan can help defeat their “common enemies, including ISIS, in the region,” he stated.

The Pakistani official said the two parties also discussed issues beyond security measures and called for closer collaboration in “energy sector” and “defense cooperation”.

‘Collaboration to resolve regional crises’

For his part, General Qadir Nezamipour, the deputy chief of Iran’s armed forces for international affairs, called for closer cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad in safeguarding the region and averting crises such as the one in Syria.

Talking in the same press conference, Nezamipour stressed that Iran and Pakistan ought to keep close cooperation to battle extremism.

Among other issues discussed was to promote border security by stationing more troops at borders and taking quicker steps to implement better security management in border areas.
