TEHRAN (Iran News) Mehdi Taj, who serves as president of Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran, said on Tuesday that he had discussed the issue with FIFA President Gianni Infantino and AFC President Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa.

Taj said that matches involving Iranian teams were moved to third-party countries because of regional tensions that led to Iran’s massive missile attacks on the Israeli regime in early October.

“We all believe that the usurping Zionist regime had to receive a jaw-breaking response and this response was delivered,” he said.

Taj reiterated that Iran’s right to host football matches would be restored if international airlines resume their flights to Iran and if nothing special happens in the coming weeks.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s captivating performance at the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup in Indonesia will carry on as they face Morocco in Surabaya on Tuesday.

Hossein Abdi’s boys left no room for doubt as they defeated New Caledonia 5-0 on Friday, ultimately finishing third in Group C alongside former champions England and Brazil, both with six points.

With six points, Morocco secured victory in Group A in Indonesia, defeating Panama (2-0) and Indonesia (3-1) while losing to Ecuador (2-0).

Iran had a goal difference of +5 in the group stage, scoring 9 goals and conceding 4.

Goalkeeper Arsha Shakouri is considered one of the national team’s standout players, specifically due to his exceptional performance against Brazil, resulting in a monumental 3-2 triumph for the Iranian team.

With 34.74 kilometers covered, Mirmohammad Razaghinia was the most active player in the group stage. He also recorded 105 passes, a good statistic. Esmaeil Gholizadeh is also seen as one of Iran’s main players to achieve the goal.

On November 25th, the winners of the Iran-Morocco match will face off against the winners of the Mexico-Mali match.

Majid Jalali, an Iranian football expert, believes that the Iran U17 players surprised everyone with their impressive performance against Brazil.

“Hossein Abdi, the team’s head coach, played a crucial role in the success, particularly in the win against Brazil. Despite conceding two goals in the first half and a demoralized state, he restored the players’ confidence, and paved the way for a comeback,” Jalali told Tehran Times.

“The team’s accomplishment highlights our football prowess and emphasizes the need for better planning in order to succeed in future international competitions,” he added.

Iran and Morocco have a history of World Cup clash in the senior age category. Their meeting in 2018 at St Petersburg Stadium ended with Iran securing a 1-0 victory through a 95th-minute own goal by Morocco.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian football federation says it has lodged a complaint against AFC for choosing Bahrain as the host country of World Cup and AFC Asian Cup qualifying matches.

The Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in relation to choosing Bahrain as centralized venue for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, Tehran Times reported.

In late March, AFC sent a letter to the Iran federation and said Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa has not intervened to select his homeland as centralized venue for the qualifiers.

In a meeting to serve as an opportunity to further strengthen the partnership between the FFIRI and the AFC.

“Whilst we appreciate the interest by the FFIRI to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 – Preliminary Competition and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Qualifiers – Preliminary Joint Qualification Round 2, we would like to inform that the decision was made by the AFC General Secretariat after due consideration and deliberation, factoring various areas, including but not limited to the standard of the proposed Stadiums/facilities, risk assessment on logistical, commercial and financial arrangements for the Participating Member Associations as well as the national medical/Covid-19 pandemic status; and the AFC President does not intervene in the decisions made by AFC General Secretariat,” the letter said.

In a statement released Tuesday night, FFIRI announced that it has filed a complaint to CAS against AFC’s decision to award the hosting rights to Bahrain.

“The AFC has chosen Bahrain as the centralized venue and has said the venue cannot be changed at all. We’ve asked CAS to take the issue into consideration as soon as possible,” the announcement reads.

Iran was originally scheduled to host three matches out of four remaining matches before coronavirus shut down the competitions.

Iran had to host table-toppers Iraq, Bahrain and Hong Kong in Tehran and were supposed to travel to Pnom Penh to meet Cambodia.

Now, the ‘Persian Leopards’ have a difficult task ahead since they will have to play their home matches in an away venue.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Persepolis football team has been reportedly banned by the world governing body FIFA from signing players in the transfer window. The Iranian club was banned by FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) after failed to meet Mario Budimir’s financial commitment.

The club’s ban will be lifted once the debt — a total of 500,000 euros— is paid off. Persepolis has been banned several times over the past years despite advancing to the AFC Champions League twice in three years.

Persepolis football team earned a much-needed 2-1 win over rock-bottom Machine Sazi here in Iran Professional League (IPL) on Saturday. Vahid Amiri scored the first goal for Persepolis after beating the offside trap in the 25th minute. The Persepolis players didn’t celebrate their goal and dedicated that to their former No.25 midfielder Mehrdad Minavand who passed away Wednesday night due to COVID-19.

Every club in the league needs strengthening in some way or another. The titleholders Persepolis seems in need of signing new players more than other teams. They have lost some key players and have struggled to get results in recent weeks.

It would be pretty devastating for any club, especially one that have won four straight titles in the last four season of IPL if they are unable to sign the new player in January.

Previously, Ebrahim Shakouri, executive director of Persepolis, it will be impossible for the club to provide 500,000 euros before Jan. 31 and the club needs to be supported by some external sources.

The Tehran-based club, currently sitting in sixth place at the league table with two games in hands, will be facing a tough period due to their financial difficulties. Fans are unhappy with the recent poor run of results which started with the team’s failure to win the AFC Champions League for the first time ever last month.

While head coach Yahya Golmohammadi constantly talks about the need to strengthen the team by signing new players, a transfer ban will severely impact the club’s plans.

Persepolis had been handed the transfer ban by FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) in September 2020 over non-payment of dues to former coach Branko Ivankovic but the ban was lifted by FIFA on Oct. 30 after the club settled with the Croatian.
