Iranian female para-archers snatched gold at Czech C’ships

Iranian females’ recurve team received the gold medal of WAE European Cup 2018, held in Czech.

Iranian recurve squad, comprising Zahra Nemati, Zahra Delkhosh and Somaye Rahimi, overpowered South Korea in the final match and gained the gold medal.

Also, in mixed team recurve, Zahra Nemati and Gholamreza Rahimi won the silver medal after suffering a defeat to Poland in the final match.

Being held in Nove Mesto Nad Metuji, Czech Republic, this is the 2nd leg of WAE European Cup 2018 and is considered a world ranking tournament.

The competition has kicked off on June 30 and will close on July 8.

Doc chronicles life story of female Iranian Turkmen governor

TEHRAN – Filmmaker Alireza Jahanifar has recently completed a documentary that recounts the life story of Marjan Nazqelichi, a Turkmen woman who was the governor of Bandar Turkaman, the northeastern Iranian town with a Turkmen population.

The idea of making the documentary titled “Nazqelichi” entered Jahanifar’s mind in April 2014, when she was appointed as the governor of the town, he said in a press release published on Sunday by the Documentary and Experimental Film Center, the producer of the film.

Born in 1974, Nazqelichi died in the Mina stampede on September 24, 2015. She served as governor to Bandar Turkaman for about 17 months.

Iran’s female taekwondoka leaves Wuxi early

TEHRAN – Iranian female taekwondoka at +67kg left the 1st World Taekwondo Grand Slam Championships in Wuxi City in China on the first day after she lost to South Korean opponent.

Zahra Pouresmaeil, who was representing Iran at +67kg, had to leave the competition after ‘Saha Bo Man’ beat her 11 – 8 on the first day of the competition.

The World Taekwondo Grand-Slam & 2020 Olympic Wild Card Games is being held in Wuxi, China with 240 fighters fiercely battling for the championship, according to the competition website.

Iran, South Korea, Turkey and 37 others countries and regions have sent their top taekwondo athletes to Wuxi, where they’ll compete with opponents at their own categories.

These competitions are held in multiple stages, and at the first stage, only men competitors at +80kg and women at +67kg will compete.

The preliminary World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series in Wuxi, China, is an invitational event attended by the world’s most professional competitors.
The fights in the 4-week event are expected to set new rules that reward athletes for extra spins and knockdowns, and the new rules could be introduced for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

“Breath” producer pleased female filmmaker to represent Iran at Oscars

TEHRAN – Mohammad-Hossein Qasemi, the producer of Iran’s submission to the 2018 Oscars “Breath”, who is also the husband of the film’s director Narges Abyar, said on Wednesday that he was pleased Iran has sent a movie by a female filmmaker to the 90th Academy Awards.

“Women have a greater potential for making a film and competing at international events,” Qasemi told the Persian service of Tasnim.

A committee of nine cineastes selected as Iran’s submission to the 90th Academy Awards in the best foreign-language film category on Tuesday.

In her an interview with the Persian service of MNA on Wednesday, Abyar called the choice of her film as Iran’s submission to the Oscars a big event and added, “I suppose that women have been given more confidence.”

“Being a good film is not the sole criterion for winning an Oscar,” she said and added, “More measures such as arranging international screenings and having a contract with a reputable company for international distribution of the film are also requirements.”

Iranian Independents, a company marketing Iranian independent feature and documentary films, is the international distributor of “Breath”.

“I have complete confidence in the cinematic charter, aesthetics, theme and the high standards of ‘Breath’,” Mohammad Atebbai, the director of the company, wrote in a press release published on Wednesday.

However, he asked the Cinema Organization of Iran to help the company in the promotion of the film in the international arena.

Abyar has said that she made “Breath” in praise of peace. The film shows how wars crush children’s dreams and hopes for a bright future.

Abyar won the Golden Wolf for best director for “Breath” at the 20th Black Nights Film Festival in Tallinn, Estonia in November 2016.

She also was picked as best director for the film at the Vancouver International Women in Film Festival in the Canadian city in March 2017.
