New Export Routes to Oman Defined

TEHRAN (Iran News) The visit—led by the Governor of Alborz—was held alongside the 7th International Food Industries and Related Machinery Exhibition (Agrofood Oman) in Muscat. It facilitated a series of business meetings, discussions with Iran’s ambassador to Oman, and interactions with heads of various provincial chambers of commerce. These engagements yielded concrete outcomes in the areas of export development, production partnerships, and joint investment initiatives.

The delegation, headed by Governor Mojtaba Abdollahi, toured the exhibition with the aim of expanding exports and identifying trade opportunities. The event featured participants from around 20 countries, including 15 booths dedicated to producers and value-chain actors from Alborz Province.

Parham Rezaei, head of the Karaj Chamber of Commerce, highlighted the significance of the delegation’s participation, noting that the Oman Agrofood Exhibition provides a key platform for presenting capabilities in food industries, agriculture, and processing machinery.

He emphasized that the diversity of products and strong presence of reputable Iranian companies created a strategic opportunity to introduce Alborz’s industrial capacity to the region.

Rezaei added that negotiations with Omani and foreign companies helped pave the way for cooperation in joint production, procurement of raw materials, and export expansion. Leveraging Oman’s logistical advantages to access African and Arab markets was also a central topic in discussions.

During the exhibition visit, Governor Abdollahi stressed the vital role of the private sector in countering external efforts to isolate Iran economically. He described the active participation of Alborz businesses in international exhibitions as an important step in strengthening regional cooperation and boosting exports.

Abdollahi underlined that, in line with the 14th government’s focus on economic diplomacy, Alborz—known as the “capital of food industry brands”—possesses significant potential for entering regional markets. Familiarity with Omani regulations, market access routes, and export opportunities across the Persian Gulf and East Africa were among the key areas explored by the delegation.

A joint meeting was also held between the Alborz delegation, Iran’s Ambassador to Oman Mousa Farhang, and heads of chambers from other provinces, including Alborz, Khuzestan, Fars, and Hormozgan, reflecting the provinces’ commitment to export coordination.

Governor Abdollahi reiterated the government’s policy of enhancing regional cooperation, stating that the simultaneous presence of multiple provinces in Oman demonstrates Iran’s unified approach toward strengthening non-oil exports.

The Iranian ambassador emphasized Alborz’s prominent role in food, pharmaceutical, and machinery production, noting that the embassy stands ready to help remove barriers facing Iranian businesses.

Farhang highlighted Oman’s longstanding friendly ties with Iran and its unique potential for expanding exports, joint investments, and use of logistical advantages. He added that the strong participation of Alborz companies demonstrates the resilience and competitive strength of Iran’s private sector despite international constraints.

He further called for continued trade delegation visits, formation of specialized working groups, and planning for joint production projects, arguing that such steps would bring Iranian-Omani economic relations into a new and more stable phase.

During the trip, officials underscored Oman’s role as a regional re-export hub, which makes showcasing Alborz’s capabilities at trade events in the country especially valuable. This approach offers producers a stable and low-risk export route.

In recent years, Oman has also supplied part of Iran’s livestock feed and agricultural imports, and expanding cooperation in this area could help stabilize domestic markets.

Meanwhile, Iran holds considerable export potential in food, industrial, pharmaceutical, and petrochemical products—opportunities that were further introduced and reinforced during the visit.

TEHRAN (Iran News) Speaking during the 29th National Export Day ceremony, Atabak emphasized that exporters are “the engines of moderation and economic development.” Reflecting on Iran’s historical role in global commerce, he noted that the country, situated along the ancient Silk Road, has long been a vital link in world trade. “Iranian merchants did not merely export goods—they also shared our culture and traditions with other civilizations,” he remarked.

The minister highlighted several recent achievements in Iran’s export performance, pointing out that 87 percent of Iranian products are now exported to member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) without tariffs—a milestone that could significantly boost Iran’s economic growth. He added that trade tariffs with Pakistan are also being reduced and, in some cases, nearly eliminated, paving the way for stronger regional exchanges.

Atabak underscored that Iran possesses the capacity to become a regional trade hub and that the government is determined to pursue this vision. The minister stressed the importance of transitioning toward “value-based exports,” explaining that the goal is to bring the monetary and physical value of exports closer together to ensure sustainable foreign currency earnings.

He further emphasized the critical role of the private sector in advancing Iran’s export agenda. “Commercial attachés should not be selected solely from government employees,” he said. “We must utilize the expertise of the private sector and joint chambers of commerce to identify and strengthen target markets.” Active participation of private businesses in economic diplomacy, he added, can elevate Iran’s standing in global trade.

Concluding his remarks, Atabak revealed that the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade is preparing to draft the “Iran Export Atlas,” following a proposal by the President. The document will serve as a comprehensive guide to the country’s export capacities and target markets, enabling exporters to identify which products are best suited for specific destinations. “By engaging the private sector in this process,” he said, “we can make a significant stride toward expanding Iran’s export landscape.”

Lack of Export Vision and Surrendering Foreign Markets to Rivals

TEHRAN (Iran News) Madani emphasized the urgent need for the development and implementation of such an atlas, drawing on the successful experiences of countries like the UK, Canada, the US, Germany, and India. He said the absence of a national export map has led to inefficiencies in policymaking, misguided investments, and ultimately, the forfeiture of Iran’s rightful share in global trade.

“Manufacturers lack precise data on what goods are needed and in what quantities. Traders, in turn, must spend large sums to identify target markets—often entering them blindly, which has led to financial losses and even bankruptcy,” Madani explained.

Madani described the Export Atlas as a simplified but powerful tool that consolidates trade data into actionable insights for both state institutions and the private sector. He suggested that the first phase of the project should focus on evaluating export opportunities in neighboring and friendly countries less impacted by international sanctions.

“The Atlas is one of the most straightforward, effective, and rapidly implementable tools in export development. It allows for smart, cost-efficient, and impactful market entry and promotion,” he said.

He warned that without the Atlas, Iranian companies often attend trade exhibitions that have little relevance to their products, wasting valuable time and resources. Similarly, commercial attachés are often deployed to countries with little export potential due to lack of proper analysis.

Madani provided a comparative overview of how other nations are using Export Atlases:

UK: Launched its Export Strategy through UK Export Finance in 2021, enabling projects like Turkey’s 1.35 GW solar power plant.

Canada: Initiated the Export Diversification Strategy in 2019, targeting a 50% increase in exports to new markets by 2025.

United States: Constantly updates its export platform (Export.gov) with tools like the Country Commercial Guides.

European Union: Uses the Access2Markets platform to offer tariff, standards, and market intelligence for SMEs.

India: Replaced older tools with the NIRYAT portal in 2021, offering real-time export data analysis.

Germany: The GTAI has issued regional export atlases focused on Asia-Pacific, guiding companies on market opportunities.

Malaysia, South Africa, Chile, and Vietnam: Have all adopted various data-driven platforms to enhance export potential and guide trade policy.

According to Madani, the success of the Export Atlas hinges on the coordinated efforts of multiple state bodies:

Presidential Office & Supreme Council for Non-Oil Exports: 10% strategic role; Ministry of Industry, Mining, and Trade (MIMT): 20% implementation role; Ministry of Economic Affairs & Finance: 13%, especially in funding and data infrastructure; Trade Promotion Organization of Iran: 11% technical mapping role; Central Bank of Iran: 9%, especially in forex policy and international payments; Iran Customs Administration: 7% as the main trade data processor; Planning & Budget Organization: 6%; Ministry of Foreign Affairs: 5%, via economic diplomacy and on-ground verification; Iran Chamber of Commerce: 5% representing private sector field insights; Export confederations and associations: 4%; Economic Research Institute of the Ministry of Economy: 3%; Statistical Center of Iran: 3%; and Media and Data Analytics Platforms: 2% each for raising awareness and shaping public discourse

Madani concluded by stressing the need for Iran to leverage the upcoming 14th administration’s emphasis on expert-driven governance. He encouraged creative think tanks and media outlets to advocate for the creation of the Export Atlas as a key step toward reclaiming Iran’s place in international trade.

“With accurate data and strategic planning, we can outmaneuver rivals who lack Iran’s resource and knowledge advantages,” Madani said.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –The head of the Board of Directors of Iran Power Industry Syndicate said that all the capacities, whether domestic or foreign, should be used optimally in order to materialize an eight-percent economic growth in the country.

Focusing on exporting technical and engineering services is one of the areas that can help boost the economy to a great extent, Payam Baqeri emphasized.

The member of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture went on to say that exporting technical and engineering services can yield foreign currency for the country as well.

In addition, exporting technical and engineering services creates a good opportunity for the country to sell the manufactured products in the target markets, he stated, IRNA reported.

Baqeri pointed to the recent inauguration of the Uma Oya Dam and Power Plant in Sri Lanka and added that the multi-purpose project, which was designed and built by Iranian companies, is among the country’s main projects in the field of exporting technical and engineering services.

Exporting technical and engineering services in the current year named “Production Jump with People’s Participation” is a need that should be taken into serious consideration, he stressed.
