TEHRAN – A collection of woodworks created on the theme of acid attacks is currently on display during an exhibition in Tehran.

The exhibition entitled “Identity” opened at Ashiane-ye Mehr Gallery on Friday during a special ceremony, which was attended by the artists and several victims of acid attacks.

“The exhibition is actually talking about an identity they lose and a new one they take on after the bitter accident,” curator Mohsen Mortazavi, who himself is a victim of an acid attack, said at the ceremony.

“Humanity is the prime target for an acid attacker and the exhibition has put its focus on this issue,” he added.

Over 50 artworks have been selected for the exhibition, which has been organized in collaboration with the Association of Support for Acid Violence Victims.

“By organizing this exhibition, we intend to raise the level of joy in the lives of acid attack victims,” said Mortazavi, who has several of his works on display at the exhibition.

Part of the money, which will be raised by the exhibition, is allocated to be spent on activities supporting acid attack victims.

Works by Moretza Movahhedi, Hossein Mardani, Amir Salimi, Parvin Khaleqi, Zahra Khoddam, Mahnaz Alijani, Fahimeh Zeineddini, Bahareh Nazari and Melika Mortazavi will be on view at the exhibit until March 1.

The gallery can be found at 2 Jafarzadegan Alley off North Kargar Ave.

TEHRAN – On Saturday Afghan Ambassador Nasir Ahmad Nour visited the Nimrouz Global Visual Art Exhibition of Afghanistan now underway at Tehran’s Niavaran Cultural Center.

A number of his colleagues also accompanied him during the visit to the showcase, which is displaying works by 53 Afghan artists and their expatriate colleagues, the center announced in a press release on Sunday.

He also held talks with several of his fellow countrymen and expressed thanks to Iranian sculptor Maryam Kuhestani who is the co-organizer and curator of the exhibit.

Ahmad Nour called the Nimrouz exhibit a representation of realities and said, “Works by Afghan artists from all corners of the world are on view in one of the best halls in the capital Tehran and show the talent and art of Afghanistan.”

“Some of these artists have been able to develop their talents and create beautiful works despite being miles away from their homeland,” he added.

He also said that he would eagerly welcome any offer from Iranian artists to showcase their works in Afghanistan.

“Fortunately, the relations between Iran and Afghanistan are great in all areas, and the embassy is ready for any further cooperation,” he added.

So far a number of officials, including Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, and the head of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Office in Tehran, Sivanka Dhanapala, have visited the exhibit.

The Nimrouz Exhibition opened on November 3 and will be running for two weeks.
