President forwards budget bill amendments for execution

TEHRAN (Iran News) – President forwards budget bill amendments for execution. Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi has announced the current Iranian calendar year’s (started on March 20) amended national budget bill to be implemented by the Planning and Budget Organization (PBO), IRNA reported.

President Raisi sent the approved amendments to PBO on Wednesday, according to Article 123 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Majlis (Iranian parliament) had approved the amended national budget bill for the current calendar year in mid-March.

The amended bill amounted to about 28.823 quadrillion rials (about $686.261 billion at the official rate of 42,000 rials).

The proposed bill, first submitted to Majlis in early December 2020, was 24.357 quadrillion rials (about $579.928 billion), with a 20-percent rise from the current year’s approved budget.

The bill estimated the government’s budget at 9.298 quadrillion rials (about $221.38 billion), while the amended figure is 13.733 quadrillion rials (about $326.976 billion).

The parliament’s budget review committee had wrapped up its final session for reviewing the details of the national budget bill for the current year in early March.

According to Rahim Zare, the spokesman of the parliament’s budget committee, the bill then was submitted to the Guardian Council for final approval.

The parliament had rejected the general outlines of the budget bill in early February, urging the government to reform the bill and submit it to the parliament again; after making the necessary amendments, the government resubmitted the bill to the parliament, and Majlis approved the amendments of the national budget bill in mid-February.

After approving the general outlines, the budget review committee held several sessions for reviewing the details of the bill.

The first session of the budget review committee was held on February 20 in which the parliament determined the share of the National Development Fund (NDF) from the country’s oil and gas export revenues in the newly amended budget bill.

Majlis continued to review the details of the national budget bill for the year 1400, in an open session on February 28. This session was mainly focused on the expense aspects of the national budget bill.

Man Convicted of Spying for CIA Executed

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Judiciary executed a man convicted of spying for the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Israeli spy service Mossad.

The death sentence was carried out against Seyed Mahmoud Mousavi Majd at dawn on Monday, according to local reports.

In June, Iran’s judiciary announced that Mousavi Majd had worked as a spy for the CIA and Mossad and given them intelligence on the whereabouts and movements of Iranian top commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed by the US in Iraq in early January.

It added that the case of the informant had nothing to do with the American assassination of General Soleimani as he had been arrested four months before the top general’s martyrdom.

Lt. General Soleimani, Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was the deputy head of Iraq’s Hashd al-Sha’abi (PMU), and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport on January 3.

The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassination of General Soleimani in Iraq, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US President Donald Trump.

In the early hours of January 8, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) targeted the US airbase of Ain al-Assad in retaliation for the US move.

Earlier this month, a retired employee of Iran’s Defense Ministry was hanged for providing the US with information on Iranian missiles.

The spy, named Reza Askari, was put to death for spying for the CIA.

After retirement from the Defense Ministry’s Aerospace Department in 2012, the executed convict was connected with the CIA, sold information on the production of Iranian missiles, and received the money in exchange.

Ayt. Khamenei reacts to Bahraini Al-Khalifa regime’s execution of two activists

“The oppression and cruelty will not last long, and the decision and will of the justice-seeking nations will eventually prevail,” Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a tweet in Arabic language, according to the Twitter account of the institute for preserving and publishing the books by Ayatollah Khamenei.

On July 27, Bahrain executed two pro-democracy activists (Ahmad al-Malali, 24, and Ali Hakim al-Arab, 25,) on two separate cases, defying widespread calls to commute the death sentences handed to the prisoners in an ‘unfair’ mass trial.

Iran condemns execution of Bahraini protesters

In a statement late Saturday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi pointed to the reports about the confession under duress and torture, the unfair trial of the executed protesters, and the international calls on Bahrain to halt the executions, saying, “The Bahraini government’s sectarian measure to execute the protesters reveals that the Bahraini government is still insisting on its wrong policy of suppression of protesters instead of choosing the path to rationality and trying to resolve the self-inflicted crisis through reconciliation with the people.”

The spokesman also touched on the documented evidence for and the Bahraini government’s record in employing extremist groups and the terrorist elements of al-Qaeda for eliminating the opposition figures, adding, “The execution of protesters on various pretexts is a continuation of the same previous approach, with the difference being that this time, the government has personally undertaken to carry out the policy of elimination of protesters instead of cooperating with the terrorist groups.”

“Intensification of security-policing approaches would not help settle the crisis in Bahrain,” he added.

Bahrain has executed three pro-democracy activists on two separate cases, defying widespread calls to commute the death sentences handed to the prisoners in an “unfair” mass trial.

Ahmad al-Malali, 24, and Ali Hakim al-Arab, 25, were executed at Jaw prison, south of the Bahraini capital Manama, on Friday.

The regime in the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom carried out the death penalties despite fierce protests by the United Nations and several human rights groups.
