‘Everybody Knows’ to open 2018 Intl. Film Festival of Kerala

The Spanish-language psychological thriller ‘Everybody Knows’, directed by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, will open the 2018 International Film Festival of Kerala on December 7.

Oscar-blessed Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’ 8th feature, ‘Everybody Knows’ stars the Oscar-winning Penélope Cruz as a mother (Carolina) who travels with her family from Buenos Aires back to her small hometown outside Madrid, Spain, for a celebration. The family’s trip is plagued by unexpected events that threaten to tear the loved ones apart.

Iranian prominent director Majid Majidi, will be the jury chairman of this year’s International Film Festival of Kerala. The renowned Iranian filmmaker will be heading the jury for the international competition category.

Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, a Kerala Government Institution to promote cinema conducts International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) every year. A competition section for the films from Asian and African and Latin American countries is the highlight of the festival. The Golden Crow Pheasant Award with a cash prize INR 15 lakhs (approximate 30,000 US dollars) for the best feature film to be shared equally between the director and the producer.

No request from producers for screening “Everybody Knows” in Iran: official

TEHRAN – The deputy director of the Cinema Organization of Iran has said that the organization still has not received a request from the producers to screen Asghar Farhadi’s latest movie “Everybody Knows”, which was shot in Spain in 2017.

“The film will be viewed as a foreign production if we receive a request to screen it in Iran,” Ebrahim Darughezadeh told the Persian service of ISNA on Sunday.

Films need special authorization from the Cinema Organization of Iran to be produced and screened in the country.

“Making films in Iran is my first priority, and as much as I can I try to screen my films in Iran,” he said in a press conference in May during the Cannes Film Festival, which opened with a screening of “Everybody Knows”.

“I don’t know what would happen about ‘Everybody Knows’ or if it would be reedited for an Iranian premiere, but I always do what should I do and I will be glad if my film can get permission to be screened in Iran,” he added.

Due to the scenes showing female characters with skimpy outfits and steamy love scenes, some Iranian critics, who have watched “Everybody Knows” at international events outside Iran, have said that the film would face big cuts for an Iranian premiere.

A Memento Films production, the film is about Laura, who lives with her husband and children in Buenos Aires. When they return together to her native village in Spain for a family celebration, an unexpected event changes the course of their lives.

Intl. festivals line up for “Everybody Knows”

TEHRAN – Oscar-winning director Asghar Farhadi’s latest film “Everybody Knows” will be screened at five international festivals, which will be held across the world, Farhadi announced on his Telegram channel on Thursday.

The film will first be screened in August at the 24th Sarajevo Film Festival, where Farhadi will preside over the jury of the official competition.

CPH PIX in Copenhagen will be next festival to screen the movie. The festival will be held in the Danish capital from September 27 to October 10.

“Everybody Knows” will open the International Antalya Film Festival in Turkey on September 28.

The film, which has been shot entirely in Spanish on the Iberian Peninsula, will go on screen at the Morelia International Film Festival, which will take place in Mexican city from October 20 to 28.

In November, the Stockholm International Film Festival in Sweden will host the film.

Starring Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, the film is about Laura, who lives with her husband and children in Buenos Aires. When they return together to her native village in Spain for a family celebration, an unexpected event changes the course of their lives.

The 71st Cannes Film Festival in May was inaugurated with a screening of the movie. However, it failed to win any awards.

Last week, the film also had a screening during the 15th Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival in Armenia, where Farhadi was the president of the jury in the official competition.
