He called bilateral issues, the latest developments in the Caucasus, ongoing projects, and discussing areas for the spread of peace and stability in the region among the goals of the visit.

Earlier, Mohammad Javad Zarif had announced his visit to these countries.

“I plan to travel to the Caucasus and Russia. I usually do not announce, but I think the dates of trips to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Russia, Armenia, and Georgia have been set,” said Zarif.

“I intend to travel to countries that can work together to help the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis and the situation of peace and stability in the region,” Iranian FM noted.

Iran’s foreign minister called on the new US administration to “unconditionally” lift sanctions against the Islamic Republic, warning that any attempt to extract “concessions” from Tehran before returning to the nuclear deal would jeopardise the opportunity to revive the pact.

Top Iranian diplomat Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote in a column published in Foreign Affairs magazine on Friday that Tehran would return to full compliance with the nuclear agreement once sanctions were lifted, but stressed that Iran’s regional policies are “not up for discussion” with Washington.

“US President Joe Biden can choose a better path by ending Trump’s failed policy of ‘maximum pressure’ and returning to the deal his predecessor abandoned,” Zarif said.

“If he does, Iran will likewise return to full implementation of our commitments under the nuclear deal. But if Washington instead insists on extracting concessions, then this opportunity will be lost.”

He made the remarks on Saturday during his visit to Anzali Free Trade Zone and expressed his satisfaction for attracting investors for the development of ports and investment of private sector in the zone.

He pointed to the significance of joining Iran to Eurasian Economic Union and added, “IRICA has focused on boosting trade and business volume in the neighboring states, so that Eurasian Economic Union enables member states to exchange their products with one another without paying customs duties.”

Iran’s membership in Eurasian Economic Union can pave suitable ways for boosting production and business in the country, he said, adding, “Anzali Free Zone and Caspian Port can play a leading role in enhancing business volume of the country due to their appropriate infrastructures.”

Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration will make its utmost effort and use all its capacities and facilities in order to materialize relevant objectives, Mir-Ashrafi added.

He termed free zones as best zones for processing exports and export activities, adding, “in a visit to Anzali Free Zone, I grasped out that Anzali Free Zone takes a giant stride in line with implementation of these definitions and international functions.”
