Iran Plans Results-Driven, Project-Focused Presence at Eurasia Summit to Boost Engineering Service Exports

TEHRAN (Iran News) Naghavi described the summit as a key milestone in Iran’s economic diplomacy and a practical opportunity to strengthen the country’s position in regional markets. He stressed that meaningful results can only be achieved through the active and coordinated involvement of the private sector, engineering associations, and relevant government institutions.

The Eurasia Summit will take place in Tehran from February 1 to February 4, with delegations from 17 countries expected to attend. Naghavi noted that many of these countries represent important target and potential markets for Iranian technical and engineering services. From this perspective, he emphasized that the event should not be treated as a symbolic or discussion-only gathering, but rather as a platform for Iranian companies to enter regional infrastructure and development projects in a professional and well-planned manner.

“The Eurasia Summit reflects the accumulation of Iran’s technical, engineering, and executive capabilities,” Naghavi said. “With the right approach, it can mark the beginning of a serious, systematic, and sustainable presence of Iranian companies in regional markets—one that leads to contract signings, joint project definitions, and concrete executive cooperation.”

Explaining the background to the formation of the Joint Committee for the Export of Technical and Engineering Services of Iran, Naghavi said the initiative was launched at the proposal of the Technical and Engineering Services Commission in response to a long-standing challenge in the sector. For years, the absence of institutional coordination, professional consensus, and a unified national voice had weakened Iran’s performance in exporting engineering services.

He noted that the Technical and Engineering Services Commission of the Iran Chamber now serves as a platform for consensus among engineering associations that genuinely represent Iranian engineering, contracting, and consulting firms. These associations, he said, play a decisive role in the success of service exports. As a result, the joint committee was formed with the participation of influential government bodies, the Iran Chamber as the leading representative of the private sector, and specialized engineering associations to translate coordination into practical action.

Naghavi highlighted the committee’s central role at the Eurasia Summit, stating that it will be responsible for shaping the content of Iran’s participation. This includes designing specialized panels, organizing targeted meetings, and facilitating structured engagement with foreign delegations. The goal, he explained, is to move beyond general introductions and elevate discussions to the level of negotiations, mutual understanding, and the definition of realistic and executable projects.

He added that extensive planning has been carried out to organize several specialized panels focused on Iran’s capabilities in exporting technical and engineering services. These panels will bring together engineering associations, leading private-sector figures, capable Iranian companies, and foreign participants. The emphasis will be on presenting practical, competitive, and market-ready capacities rather than promotional or abstract narratives.

In addition to panel discussions, the agenda includes the signing of cooperation memoranda, expert-level meetings, and direct negotiations between Iranian firms and foreign counterparts. Naghavi stressed that the main objective is to ensure that the summit produces tangible outcomes. “The success of this event should be measured by defined cooperation pathways, joint projects, and effective post-summit follow-up mechanisms, not by speeches alone,” he said.

He also underscored the importance of business-to-business (B2B), business-to-government (B2G), and government-to-government (G2G) meetings on the sidelines of the summit. Large technical and engineering projects, he noted, often require simultaneous engagement at multiple levels. Infrastructure and development initiatives in the region typically depend on coordinated interaction among private companies, professional associations, and public institutions in both the source and host countries.

Naghavi pointed out that this is the first time Iran is approaching an international summit in the field of technical and engineering services with such a clear, unified, and structured strategy. He emphasized that achieving this level of professionalism would not be possible without close coordination among the government, the Iran Chamber, and engineering associations. He added that all meetings and panels must be designed and implemented according to international professional standards to build trust and enable effective market entry.

In conclusion, Naghavi described the Eurasia Summit as a potential turning point in the economic diplomacy of Iran’s private sector. He said the event could open a new phase of active, competitive, and professional engagement by Iranian companies in regional markets. With sustained coordination among public institutions, the Iran Chamber, and engineering associations, the export of technical and engineering services could become a stable and long-term driver of Iran’s economic development.

Iran’s Exports to Eurasia Rise 16% in First Seven Months of the Year

TEHRAN (Iran News) According to a report from the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran, Elham Haji-Karimi said the growth highlights the positive impact of the free trade agreement on sustaining Iran’s export performance. She added that the fourth Eurasia International Exhibition will be held in Tehran with the participation of senior officials and trade delegations from member and influential countries in the region.

Haji-Karimi noted that the highest export growth was recorded with Belarus (50 percent) and Armenia (35 percent). She emphasized that Iran’s exports to other global markets did not grow during the same period, underscoring the agreement’s effectiveness in maintaining and expanding trade with Eurasian partners.

Referring to import statistics, she explained that data are categorized based on both “trading partner country” and “country of origin.” Based on trading partners, Iran’s imports declined by about 19 percent, amounting to $885 million. However, imports from the Eurasian region based on country of origin rose by 27 percent, largely consisting of essential goods such as sunflower oil, wheat, and animal feed corn, which continued to be supplied even during the 12-day conflict period.

Comparing the composition of exports before and after the implementation of the provisional and permanent agreements, Haji-Karimi said that prior to the provisional agreement in 2019, Iran’s top ten exports to Eurasia were entirely agricultural products. She added that industrial goods such as containers, white cement, iron bars, oil, bitumen, and synthetic fibers have now been added to the list of major export items.

She stressed that Iran has significant trade potential in the Eurasian market, particularly in sectors such as automobiles and spare parts, textiles and apparel, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, and food industries, noting that Eurasian countries import large volumes of these products globally and Iran is well positioned to supply them.

Haji-Karimi also referred to the formation of specialized working groups предусмотрed under the agreement, stating that expert meetings in customs, standards, rules of origin, and transportation were held via videoconference in September and October. Their findings were later presented to the Joint Working Group, the main body overseeing the agreement.

She added that during the Joint Working Group meeting on September 24, 2025, attended by Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade and the Eurasian trade minister, implementation challenges were reviewed and a three-year economic and trade cooperation roadmap was signed. The roadmap outlines future actions under the agreement and defines the responsibilities of executive bodies on both sides.

Providing details about the upcoming Eurasia Exhibition, Haji-Karimi said trade delegations from Asian and regional countries will attend, alongside a high-level meeting of ministers and senior officials to discuss broader issues such as the performance of the free trade agreement since its entry into force on May 15, future cooperation prospects, joint investment projects, and emerging areas including e-commerce.

The Fourth Eurasia International Exhibition will be held in Tehran from February 1 to 4, offering Iranian and Eurasian businesses an opportunity to explore market capacities and further deepen trade and investment cooperation.

Committee Formed to Establish Joint Standards With Eurasia

TEHRAN (Iran News) Speaking at a ceremony marking World Standards Day on Monday, attended by President Pezeshkian at the Summit Hall in Tehran, Atabak said, “We have less than two months to compile and deliver all necessary materials to the Eurasian Union. This exchange can facilitate customs procedures, standardization, and logistics for all member countries.”

Atabak emphasized that with the coordination and support of the Supreme Council of Standards, Iran can take significant steps forward in its cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union and enhance trade exchanges. “The Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade seeks the Council’s backing to help expand our partnership with the Eurasian Union,” he added. “Eurasia”

He noted that Iran had seen a 24% drop in non-oil exports in the first few months of the year, but mid-October trade exchanges with the Eurasian Union helped restore non-oil export levels to match those of the previous year. “The main driver of this improvement was trade with the Eurasian Union,” Atabak said, stressing that the Supreme Export Council can play a vital role in further facilitating and expanding these exchanges.

The minister highlighted the close cooperation between the National Standards Organization and the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade, stating that together they can serve as both regulators and enablers of production and services. “We can lead Iranian goods and services into global markets — but this requires the active participation of the private sector,” he said.

Atabak expressed hope that Iran would continue to strengthen its competitiveness through improved product and service quality, regardless of external conditions.

Atabak underlined the crucial role of standardization in promoting the country’s economic and social development. “The deeper standards are embedded in our production and service sectors, the more effectively we can achieve synergy and global integration,” he said.

He noted that while standards were once seen as obstacles, today they are regarded as strategic partners for industry. “A national and forward-looking perspective has emerged within the National Standards Organization, transforming standards into a driver for industrial progress,” he added.

Standardization, Atabak said, now plays a key role in protecting consumer rights and advancing trade and exports, forming one of the core responsibilities of his ministry. “To compete internationally, quality must be our foundation. Standards are the common language of all nations — one that needs no translation,” he remarked. “Eurasia”

The minister stressed that service standardization — from logistics and transport to tourism, e-commerce, and emerging technologies — is essential for Iran’s future. “Joint service standards with neighboring countries can open new export opportunities for Iran,” he said.

Referring to the 14th Government’s emphasis on diplomacy and international cooperation, Atabak said, “At the end of October, we held a meeting in Russia focusing on 16 subcommittees covering standardization issues from trade harmonization to commodity exchanges.”

He added that significant progress has been made toward aligning standards among Eurasian Union countries, but more work remains. “These 16 subcommittees should be consolidated into one specialized body involving ministers from both Iran and Eurasian member states,” he suggested.

Atabak concluded by renewing his formal request to President Pezeshkian to establish a ministerial committee — including the ministries of Economy, Foreign Affairs, and Industry, as well as the National Standards Organization and Customs Administration — to finalize and submit the agreed joint standards to the Eurasian Economic Union within a short timeframe.

22% Increase in Exports to Eurasia This Spring

TEHRAN (Iran News) According to a statement published by the TPO, trade agreements between countries are governed by international trade laws and are intended to facilitate and expand commerce between the parties. Therefore, banning imports—except in specific cases such as religious prohibitions—from other signatories of such agreements would constitute a significant breach of the deal.

The statement further emphasized that all goods, including pets, are assigned individual codes under the international goods classification system. However, this categorization should not be used as a pretext to undermine the positive impact of trade agreements in streamlining trade flows.

The TPO highlighted that free trade agreements are a modern tool widely adopted globally in recent years to facilitate commerce. For example, Turkey has signed 24 such agreements with its trade partners. Iran’s free trade agreement with the EAEU—its first of this kind—can play a key role in boosting trade with the five member states: Russia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, and Belarus.

The statement reiterated that these trade deals are also strategic tools to counter economic sanctions, which aim to restrict Iran’s commercial activities. Free trade agreements, on the other hand, ease these constraints, making them a vital part of Iran’s economic strategy.

Despite an overall decline in Iran’s global exports during the first quarter of the current year, exports to EAEU countries rose by 22% in value. This growth is attributed to the trade agreement with the Eurasian bloc, which initially came into effect on October 27, 2019, and was upgraded to a full free trade agreement on May 14, 2025. Since the deal’s implementation, Iran’s exports to EAEU countries have grown from $600 million to $2 billion annually.

In addressing the pet import rumors, the TPO stressed that Iran’s imports from Eurasia consist mainly of essential goods such as wheat, barley, oilseeds, crude oil, livestock corn, various types of wood, meat, and investment items like gold. Non-essential items such as pets are not among the major imports.

The organization urged the media to exercise accuracy and integrity when reporting on foreign trade matters, which have a significant impact on economic development and social stability. It concluded by cautioning that the recent reports on pet imports are not only incorrect but also appear suspiciously aimed at undermining the benefits of the free trade agreement with Eurasia. The TPO called on media professionals to remain vigilant and avoid publishing misleading news that could harm Iran’s international trade relations.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –The chairman of the Iran-Russia Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Mines has underscored that the enforcement of the free trade agreement between Eurasia and Iran can transfigure the economic situation significantly.

Hadi Tizhoosh-Taban said that the implementation of such agreements would affect trade and the economy and that the proper utilization of the grave opportunity can end up in an upsurge and transformation in different sectors of the Islamic Republic.

The Iranian producers produce different products in industrial and agricultural sectors, which are required by the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), on the other hand, the imported commodities from the member states of the union include raw materials needed for the production sector, Tizhoosh-Taban argued.

Preparing grounds for the implementation of the agreement, including financial exchanges, infrastructure, and logistics, can pave the way for the improvement of the economic situation in Iran, he said.

The official also called for paving the ground for creating mechanisms to use the Iranian rial and the Russian ruble in mutual trade in order to facilitate exchanges and get rid of illegal sanctions.

As to the insufficient progress in creating infrastructure for the Russia-Iran trade, he noted that the development of trade infrastructure can help attract foreign investments, which can transform construction projects and improve the economy.

Last week Minister of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission Andrey Slepnev said that the Eurasian Economic Union is to sign a free trade agreement with Iran soon.

Speaking to Russian media, Slepnev said that the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has held important negotiations with Iran to solve some issues regarding the free trade agreement.

He added that lifting almost all customs duties in Iran’s mutual trade with Eurasian member states, especially Russia, was on the agenda of these talks.

Meanwhile, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) in a statement announced that last week, during the negotiations in Tehran, a memorandum was signed for the future agreement between the two parties.

Iran and the EAEU have agreed on most of the main issues to finalize the negotiations on the free trade area agreement as well as mutual access to the market, except for certain types of agricultural products.

According to the statement, trade turnover between Eurasia and Iran has increased by 74% in 2021 and the figure experienced 25% growth in the first 10 months of 2022.

Under the framework of the mentioned MOU, the companies, namely Sirang Tejarat Iranian (STI) and Hamoun Nayze Company (Hanyco), are going to cooperate for promoting the exports of various water industry items including cast iron pipes and fittings and electric cast iron bases to Eurasia and CIS countries.

The signing ceremony of the MOU was attended by senior officials including the Head of the Iranian Electrical Power Equipment Manufacturing and Provision Company (known as SATKAB) Mohammad-Vali Alaedini and the Head of Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce Hadi Tizhoush.

Iran and Eurasian Economic Union reached a free trade agreement in October 2018 based on which about 862 commodity items were subjected to preferential tariffs.

The interim agreement enabling the formation of a free trade area between Iran and the EAEU was signed on May 17, 2018, and officially came into force on October 27, 2019.

EAEU is a very important market in the region and the development of trade ties with the members of this union is of high significance for the Islamic Republic.

The free trade agreement between Iran and this union has laid the ground for the expansion of trade ties between the two sides.

The agreement with the bloc has increased Iran’s exports to the EAEU member states significantly, which is a turning point for the Islamic Republic’s plans for boosting non-oil exports during the U.S. sanctions.

Earlier this month, Tehran hosted Iran’s first exclusive Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) exhibition, which was a platform to showcase the trade capabilities of the EAEU members and their Iranian counterparts.

Over 30 companies from Russia, 30 companies from Kyrgyzstan, more than 10 companies from Armenia, more than 10 companies from Kazakhstan, and some companies from Belarus participated in the four-day exhibition which was held during July 9-12.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali has praised the level of ties between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union, underlining the importance of the economic body.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the first specialized Eurasian exhibition in Tehran on Sunday, Jalali said, “The Eurasian Economic Union is an important and promising union for economic actors.”

“The Preferential Trade Agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Union was reached as a result of long negotiations and efforts of the parties, and during the year and a half that has passed since this agreement, it has had a significant impact on increasing the volume of trade between Iran and Eurasian Union member states,” he added.

Emphasizing Iran’s commitment to a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Union, he praised the approach of the union secretariat and member states to this issue and added, “In the approach of Russia and Mr. Putin himself, we see a positive assessment for the expansion of relations with Iran in the form of the Eurasian Economic Union and Iran’s membership in this union.”

He also referred to Iran’s efforts in the field of logistics and added that Iran can facilitate Eurasian trade through regional corridors.

Jalali pointed to two rail and sea routes and noted, “In the railway area, two very important border points of the Rasht-Astara and Chabahar-Zahedan railways are being completed. In the case of the Rasht-Astara railway due to lack of financing by the Republic of Azerbaijan problems have been created, but the Chabahar-Zahedan railway is being completed with internal resources.”

The Iranian ambassador to Russia assessed the various railway routes to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkmenistan as important North-South, East-West and middle corridors and expressed hope for the revival of these rail routes, according to ISNA.

He also stressed the role of the Caspian Sea route in developing direct trade, especially with Russia and Kazakhstan.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he referred to the existing problems in developing trade between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union, expressing hope that Iranian traders will become professional and reach the level of Eurasian countries.

It is through such professionalism and strengthening Iran’s customs that trade between the two sides will improve, he suggested.

He also called for correcting existing problems and making the agreements more effective to achieve the goal.

Emphasizing the effective role of private sector traders and chambers of commerce and the relationship between traders, Jalali said that the lack of familiarity of traders with the laws of other countries is one of the main problems in trade between the two parties. And the solution is online education and creating a database of businessmen of countries.

In the end, Jalali emphasized perseverance and efforts to develop relations.

The opening ceremony of the first specialized Eurasian exhibition was held in the presence of Iran’s ambassador to the Russian Federation. Officials and diplomats from other countries, including Russia, were also present.

During the ceremony, Jalali visited the exhibition and met with a number of businessmen and traders participating in the exhibition.

The exhibition, which runs until July 13, will feature Eurasian Union companies, including 30 companies from Russia, 30 companies from Kyrgyzstan, more than 10 companies from Armenia, more than 10 companies from Kazakhstan and companies from Belarus, along with Iranian companies.

The companies that participated in the exhibition are active in the fields of banking and finance, technology transfer, construction of large factories, silos, ports, wharves, oil tanks, shipbuilding, steel and cement. wholesalers of livestock inputs, oil and agricultural products are also present at the fair.

In May, Ambassador Jalali and Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov stressed the need for expanding economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – ead of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization Hamid Zadboum said that holding the first Eurasia Expo in Iran is a good opportunity to facilitate free trade talks with members of the Eurasian Economic Union.

Referring to the significance of holding this expo, Zadboum described it as an environment to better recognize Iran’s export capacity to EAEU member states.

Emphasizing that the EAEU with a population of 185 million people is one of Iran’s most important trading partners, the official said that a temporary agreement on free trade of 862 goods was signed between Iran and the EAEU in 2018 and was effective from 2019.

He noted that Iran tries to turn the agreement into a permanent free trade agreement with the EAEU.

Zadboum linked the relatively low participation in the expo by Iranian and foreign visitors to the coronavirus pandemic and consequent restrictions and said that he hoped participation would increase in the next edition of the event.

Eurasian Economic Commission Chairman Danil Ibrayev, Russian-Iranian Business Council Vladimir Obydenov, Head of Iran’s Foreign Ministry Multilateral Trade and Financial Cooperation Aziz Mansouri, Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali and several other Iranian and Russian officials attended the inauguration ceremony of the expo.

The Eurasia Expo 2021 is held July 9-14 in Tehran.

As reported, 30 companies from Russia, 30 companies from Kyrgyzstan, more than 10 companies from Armenia, more than 10 companies from Kazakhstan, and some companies from Belarus are participating in this four-day exhibition along with Iranian companies.

The companies participating in this exhibition are active in the fields of banking and finance, technology transfer, construction of large factories, silos, ports, wharves, oil tanks, shipbuilding, steel, and cement, as well as large sellers of livestock inputs and oil and agricultural products.

On the first day of the event, the members of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) and the Eurasian chambers of commerce held a meeting to exchange views on ways of boosting trade between the two sides.

According to the Managing Director of Iran International Exhibitions Company (IIEC) Hassan Zamani, due to the special conditions created by the coronavirus pandemic in the country, the exhibition is not open for the public and only traders, scholars, and businessmen whose field of work is related to the EAEU are allowed to visit the exhibition.

Iran and Eurasian Economic Union reached a free trade agreement in October 2018 based on which about 862 commodity items were subjected to preferential tariffs.

Iran-Eurasia Trade Hits $1.4b in 8 Months

IRAN NEWS ECONOMIC DESK

TEHRAN – According to the statistics released by Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture (TCCIMA), Iran’s trade with Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) countries stood at around $1.4b in the first 8 months in the current Iranian calendar year.

According to the report, the value of Iran’s trade of goods with EAEU states, excluding the crude oil trade, has been around $1.4b in the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year which accounts for 2.8 percent of the total value of Iran’s trading goods and the figure shows 11 percent decline comparing to the same period last year.

The report shows that in the first eight months, Iran has exported 1.8m tons of non-oil goods worth $639m to the EAEU member states that shows 20 percent decline in terms of weight and 6 percent in terms of value comparing to the same period last year. TCCIMA report also indicates that Iran’s exports to Russia and Belarus have increased considerably in terms of weight and value while its exports to three countries of Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have slumped both in terms of weight and value.

EAEU states’ share of Iran’s total goods exports in the first eight months has not witnessed a meaningful change both in terms of weight and value comparing to the same period last year and with only 0.2 percent rise has reached 2.4 percent.

Among Iran’s trade partner in the EAEU, Iran’s exports to Russia in the first eight months have stood at $285m while the figure has been $233m for Armenia and in return Iran has had most of its imports from Russia which is valued at $727m.

Agro and foodstuff items have accounted for major part from Iran’s total exports to five EAEU member states in the eight months which has been around 425m tons of goods worth $330m. The major destinations for Iran’s food and agro exports to the EAEU states have been Russia, Kazakhstan and Armenia. The figure for exports to Russia is some $246m, to Kazakhstan $44m and to Armenia $23.6m.

Meanwhile the report claims that Iran’s trade balance with EAEU members in the current Iranian calendar year has been negative but the condition has become better in favor of Iran as the negative trade balance has been cut by $90m. The reason for this cut in the negative trade balance is the rise in exports from and decline of imports from Russia and Belarus, and also because of decline in imports from Kazakhstan.

The report also indicates that the trade balance with Russia in the first eight months is still negative with $442m in favor of Russia.

Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) as an economic union which has started its work since 2015 with five major countries of Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia and it is in charge of policy-making for macro economy, migration of workforce in direction of free trade and trade agreements.

Iran signed a trade agreement with EAEU in November 2019 and according to the agreement, 860 items of goods are traded between Iran and five EAEU members and Iran is currently negotiating for signing free trade agreement with the union.
