In a meeting with members of the Expediency Council on Wednesday, Ayatollah Khamenei cautioned the country’s authorities not to let such “small incidents” distract them from their major duties.

“The Iranian nation made great moves in a short period of time, which were 180 degrees opposite to the global arrogance’s policies, and they were forced to react,” he said, referring to the United States and other Western powers.

“In this context, by planning and spending money, they brought people including some politicians in America, Europe and some other places to the field,” the Leader added.

Protests erupted after the death of Mahsa Amini, who fainted at a police station and was pronounced dead days later at a Tehran hospital on September 16, first in her native province of Kordestan and later in several cities, including the capital Tehran.

Ayatollah Khamenei said enmities toward Iran will continue in various forms as long as the people of Iran take up the flag of Islam and accompany the Islamic Republic. “The only solution is to stand firm,” he asserted.

Addressing the Iranian authorities, the Leader said they need to be careful not to be distracted by these “minor incidents” from carrying out their main duties in domestic and international arenas.

“The constructions, great executive works, effective legislation, big judicial works, and important issues in foreign policy should not be sidelined by these minor incidents,” he said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader reiterated his earlier call on authorities to differentiate between minor acts of vandalism and big roles in the riots.

“Some of these people are either the elements of the enemy or are aligned with the enemy, while some others have been [only] provoked,” he said.

He added that cultural programs should be implemented with regard to the second group but the first group should be dealt with by judicial and security authorities.

“Today, the armed forces are ready to respond strongly to any threat in the shortest possible time,” he said.

He also pointed to the recent changes in the Army Ground Force, saying, “Some changes have been made in the nature of the Army Ground Force… and our forces’ readiness is at its highest level.”

The remarks came against the backdrop of increasing tensions between Tehran and Washington which peaked when the Islamic Republic shot down an advanced U.S. spy drone after it intruded into Iranian airspace.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced on June 20 that a U.S. spy drone that violated the Iranian territorial airspace in the early hours of the day was shot down by the IRGC Aerospace Force’s air defense unit near the Kooh-e-Mobarak region in the southern province of Hormozgan.

The intruding drone was shot by Iran’s homegrown air defense missile system “Khordad-3rd”.

In comments made a few hours after the incident, IRGC Chief Major General Hossein Salami said the shooting down of the U.S. drone had a straightforward message that any foreign intrusion into Iranian territories would draw a crushing response.

On June 24, U.S. President Donald Trump announced new sanctions against Iran, targeting office of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and top commanders of the IRGC.

Also last week, the U.S. targeted Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif with sanctions.

Ashtari said the enemy used political gaps in the country to question the Islamic Republic’s principles, values and beliefs.

The enemy is not too stupid to wage a military aggression against Iran, and instead, it is waging a “soft war” against the Islamic republic, he opined.

A senior Iranian military commander says the country’s Armed Forces are fully prepared to make the enemies regret any wrong move against the Islamic Republic.

“We are monitoring threats and boosting the defense capabilities of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Army accordingly,” the second-in-command of the Iranian Army, Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan, said on Saturday.

“We are fully ready to counter Daesh in Iraq, Syria or any other places,” he added.

He noted that the Iranian Army has successfully carried out different exercises and tactics and is in complete command of the situation, saying it is prepared to fulfill its duties.

Pourdastan emphasized that all enemies’ moves have been so far thwarted due to the active presence of Iran’s Navy and the acts of bravery of the Air and Ground Forces.

He said the Islamic Republic is currently capable of manufacturing weapons and displaying its might beyond the country’s territorial waters and even in the Indian Ocean.

In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

Iran’s Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami said on Saturday the Islamic Republic would seek permission from no country to bolster its defense power.

“As long as the rhetoric of some [countries] is one of threat, Iran’s reinforcement of its defense power will continue,” the Iranian defense minister said, adding, “Iran will not seek permission from any country to produce different missiles, and land, naval, and aerial defense weapons.”
