TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Energy Ministry has announced new regulations on guaranteed purchase of electricity from the country’s renewable power suppliers, IRIB reported on Sunday.

Based on the new regulations, the ministry has increased the price for the guaranteed purchase of electricity from renewable power plants in order to promote construction of such plants in the country and also to increase competitiveness among the companies active in the renewable electricity industry.

According to Iran’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (known as SATBA), to address environmental problems in coastal provinces and metropolises, the base rate of guaranteed electricity purchases from biomass power plants will be doubled.

Also, the electricity purchase rate for wind farms in Sistan-Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran will increase by ten percent compared to the figures set out in their contracts.

Furthermore, renewable power plants which are built to export their generated electricity can, on request, sell their electricity to SATBA in accordance with Article 61 of the Consumer Pattern Amendment Act; which in that case they are required to cancel their export licenses.

Also for power plants that are not fully operational, the time for the price adjustment will be based from the date on which the plants start operating in full capacity.

According to the official the capacity of power generation from the renewable sources will exceed 1000MW by the end of the current Iranian year (March 19, 2020).

Renewables, including hydropower, account for just six percent of the country’s total energy generation, versus natural gas’ 90 percent share.

“With infrastructures provided and also activating potentials for generating extra 5,000 megawatts of electricity we will assuredly have no power outage in the next summer,” said Homayoun Ha’eri, the Iranian Deputy Energy Minister for Electricity and Energy.

The Iranian official made the remarks on Sunday at a meeting with the representative from national and local media.

“In this summer we faced a 5,000 megawatt deficit but cooperation of people, governors, and ministerial officials helped us save 2,000 megawatts this year and as a result €2.5 million and this was a big step in line with the policies of Resistance Economy,” he added.

He promised that Iranian power plants will have an increase of 5,000 megawatts by the end of the current Iranian calendar year of 1397 (on March 21, 2019).

Referring to the capacity of power exchange of border provinces with countries which share borders with the Islamic Republic of Iran, he added that the three provinces of Ilam, Kordestan and Kermanshah make up Iran’s western zone of power with the capacity of 3,200 megawatts

“Establishing new power plants and tapping them into the national grid, we can increase the power provision index and be more active in exporting electricity,” Homayoun Ha’eri asserted.

Zagros power plant, Biston power plant, the third phase of Darian power plant and 900 megawatt power plant of Dalahou are power plants in Kermanshah Province which will be tapped in the next year.

Mohammad Bagher Nobakht made the remarks in his weekly presser on Tuesday during which he said that Iran used to supply electricity to Iraq earlier this year but due to the shortages in the country, it does not intend to resume the supplies to the neighboring country in the current situation.

Earlier this month, Iran has cut electricity supplies to Iraq due to unpaid bill, affecting Iraq’s Dhi Qar, Maysan and Basra provinces.

The government spokesman also reacted to the western media claim that said that Israeli regime’s agents had stolen nuclear-related documents from a site in the suburb of Tehran, saying that such claims were made few months ago calling them false.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Nobakht said that the US’s attempts to reduce Iran oil exports to zero will fail, saying that the government is trying to maintain the current level of oil exports and will not accept any restrictions other than those of the OPEC.

With regard to some media reports inside that country claiming that the International Atomic Agency (IAEA) inspectors were given access to inspect Tehran universities, the government spokesman referred the reporters to the head of Iran’s atomic body Ali Akbar Salehi.
