Iran president, Iraq PM discuss security, bilateral issues

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday spoke on the phone with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi discussing security and ways to enhance the two countries’ relations.

Rouhani congratulated the government and people of Iraq on Eid al-Adha, adding, “For the Islamic Republic of Iran, supporting stability and security, independence and territorial integrity of Iraq has a special importance, and we consider the security and stability of Iraq as our own security, and we support the presence of this neighboring Muslim country in regional interactions,” according to a statement by the Iranian presidency.

Rouhani said that the Americans are playing a double game in the fight against terrorism and their actions on the Iraqi-Syrian border have been against the interests of the region, adding, “These days we are witnessing the United States’ complicated game in Iraq and it is natural that this policy will not help bring security and stability to Iraq, but complicate the situation.”

Pointing out that the Americans have always played a destructive role in the region, the president stressed Iran’s opposition to any foreign intervention in the region and said, “The problems of the region must be resolved by the countries of the region themselves.”

Rouhani referred to the high capacity of cooperation between Tehran and Baghdad in economic and trade fields, and stressed the need to implement and operationalize previous agreements, including the important Shalamcheh-Basra railway project, as well as defining the economic cooperation roadmap and developing an economic strategy.

“Iran and Iraq can complement each other as two complementary economies by developing their cooperation,” the president added.

In this conversation, al-Kadhimi congratulated the government and people of Iran on Eid al-Adha, describing relations between the two countries as very friendly and strong. The prime minister stressed efforts to develop and deepen relations and continue bilateral cooperation.

The Iraqi prime minister added, “Over the past 8 years, with your efforts and management, we have witnessed an increase in the level of bilateral, regional and international cooperation between Baghdad and Tehran, and good agreements have been reached between the two countries to cooperate in joint projects.”

Al-Kadhimi also appreciated the Iranian government and people for supporting the Iraqi government and people in the fight against terrorism and Daesh, as well as for establishing peace, stability and security in the country.

Eid al-Adha prayers to be held in all Iranian cities council

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Friday Prayer Policy Council said on Tuesday that Eid al-Adha prayers will be held in all towns with strict adherence to all the standard operating procedures of COVID-19.

The deputy head of Iran Friday Prayer Policy Council Hojjat al-Islam Ali Nouri said on Tuesday that prayers will be held at mosques and open places in all cities and towns with strict adherence to all the standard operating procedures of COVID-19.

Nouri said, “Eid al-Adha prayers will be held with strict adherence to social distancing and hygiene procedures, the use of masks and outdoor places in all cities and in the red and orange-coded cities with a limited attendance.”

The social distancing and hygiene procedures for Eid al-Adha were set by National Task Force For Fighting Coronavirus a few days ago, according to the Iranian religious official.

He said the permit issued for Eid al Adha prayers is different from that of the previous Fitr prayers, explaining, “For Eid Fitr prayers, a permit was issued for all cities as a whole, but as for al-Adha prayers, the guidelines and procedures are similar to Friday prayers; meaning that, wherever Friday prayers are held, Eid al-Adha prayers are held with the same quality.”

Nouri also said people who have symptoms of the disease must avoid attending public gatherings, and those who go to places of worship must use masks and sanitisers and abide by social distancing procedures.

Iran Calls for Lasting Truce in Afghanistan

TEHRAN (Iran News) – An assistant to Iran’s foreign minister and the director-general of the Foreign Ministry’s Department for West Asia urged a lasting truce in Afghanistan after the Taliban announced a three-day ceasefire over the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.

“If a truce is good, why (only) three days, let a lasting one prevail,” Seyed Rasoul Mousavi tweeted on Thursday.

It came after the Taliban on Tuesday announced a three-day ceasefire in Afghanistan during the Muslim festival of Eid al-Adha starting on Friday.

In a statement, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid ordered the group’s fighters “to refrain from carrying out any operation” during the Eid al-Adha celebrations but warned any attack “by the enemy” would be met with force.

The Afghan president’s spokesman, Sediq Sediqqi, said the government welcomed the ceasefire announcement but added that Afghans wanted “a lasting ceasefire and the start of direct talks between the Taliban and the government of Afghanistan.”

Israeli soldiers storm Al Aqsa Mosque during Eid al-Adha prayers

According to Arabic-language al-Ahednews website, the Israeli troops stormed the mosque during the prayer ceremony of Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, which is one of the most important Muslim-calendar events.

Over 100,000 Palestinians had convened in Al-Aqsa this morning to perform the prayers of the Eid.

There is a clash going on between the Israeli forces and Palestinians outside of the mosque.

While people around the world traditionally head to markets several days before the Eid to buy gifts, sweets and new clothes for their families, the impoverished people in Gaza have been marking Eid al-Adha under harsh conditions imposed by the Israeli regime since 2007.

Around two million Palestinians in Gaza are marking another Eid al-Adha holiday this year under difficult conditions due to the Israeli blockade. Like previous years, the festivity is once again marred by rampant poverty and unemployment.

The religious occasion comes at the end of the Hajj Pilgrimage that takes place in the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Iran’s Parl. Speaker congratulates counterparts on Eid al-Adha

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani has issued a statement congratulating his counterparts in the Muslim world and Muslims on the advent of Eid al-Adha.

In his message to his counterparts in the Islamic counterparts, Ali Larijani said that Hajj provides a good opportunity for more unity and solidarity among all Muslims.

Larijani further said that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always sought to strengthen unity, brotherhood and cooperation among the Islamic countries since the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

He also expressed the Iranian Parliament’s readiness to strengthen cooperation among Islamic countries, wishing the speakers of the Islamic countries parliaments a happy Eid al-Adha and well-being.

VP Jahangiri congratulates Muslim counterparts on Eid al-Adha

The Iranian First Vice President Es’hagh Jahangiri has sent separate messages to his counterparts in Islamic countries, congratulating Muslims on the advent of Eid al-Adha.

In his messages to his Muslim counterparts on Tuesday, Es’hagh Jahangiri congratulated all Muslims in the world on the advent of the Eid al-Adha festival, which concludes the Hajj pilgrimage, and described the festival as a symbol of sacrifice made at the request of Almighty God.

He also expressed hope that in line with the teachings of holy prophets and the the Eid al-Adha, Muslims will move towards more unity and solidarity in order to fight against violence, extremism and colonial powers and to promote peace, friendship among Muslims around the world.
