TEHRAN (Iran News) Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi will travel to Tunisia and Egypt this week as part of ongoing regional consultations, says spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei.

Baqaei told IRNA on Monday that the visits fall within the framework of Iran’s continuous dialogue with regional and Islamic countries aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and exchanging views on regional issues and international developments.

During his stop in Cairo, Araghchi is scheduled to meet with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi to finalize discussions on a new framework for cooperation between Iran and the agency.

The spokesman noted that the text of the framework has been drafted over three rounds of technical talks and is now in the final stage of completion.

Baqaei explained that the framework addresses Iran’s safeguards commitments while taking into account field realities, including illegal attacks by the Israeli regime and the United States against Iran’s nuclear facilities, as well as the law passed by Parliament and considerations of the Supreme National Security Council.

The foreign minister will also hold a new round of political talks with Egyptian officials, including a meeting with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, to review bilateral and regional developments.

Iran’s Travel Agencies Ready to Launch Tourism Corridor With Egypt

TEHRAN (Iran News) According to ILNA, quoting the public relations office of the Iranian Association of Air Travel and Tourism Services Offices, Hormatollah Rafiei, President of the Association, expressed optimism about the renewed possibility of establishing tourism connections. Rafiei has traveled to Cairo three times under the 13th government to represent Iran’s tourism sector and sign a comprehensive tourism agreement with Egyptian travel agencies.

“Everything was prepared for reopening the tourism route between Iran and Egypt. We even signed a complete memorandum of understanding,” said Rafiei. “However, at that time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not approve of the private sector initiating tourism relations and effectively blocked the process.”

Rafiei criticized the previous foreign ministry for repeatedly giving interviews that prevented the agreement from being implemented. He welcomed the recent visit of Iran’s Minister of Cultural Heritage, Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri, to Cairo to attend the D-8 summit, during which the minister discussed visa waivers and establishing tourism links with Egyptian authorities.

He noted that Egyptian nationals have long enjoyed visa-free access to Iran, and the only remaining hurdle to tourism exchanges is the absence of direct flights. “If tourism relations resume, they won’t face visa issues — just the lack of direct air routes,” he said.

Rafiei emphasized that the private sector is not concerned with who facilitates the reestablishment of tourism ties, as long as it benefits the country and the tourism industry. He also highlighted the cultural, religious, and historical similarities between the two nations, adding that many Egyptians feel a close affinity toward Iran.

He expressed hope that recent diplomatic steps will soon open the long-awaited Iran-Egypt tourism corridor. “The private sector is fully ready to support the government in making this happen,” Rafiei said. “We’ve already done our part and are willing to continue.”

He also cited the Supreme Leader’s remarks encouraging stronger ties with Egypt and other Islamic countries, expressing hope that regional policies will soon lead to the resumption of direct flights and full tourism relations between Tehran and Cairo.

Currently, the number of Iranian tourists visiting Egypt is virtually zero, as most Iranian travelers to the country use second passports and reside abroad. In contrast, Egyptian tourists have always been able to visit Iran freely.

Rafiei concluded by reiterating the private sector’s preparedness to collaborate with the government to rapidly activate the Iran-Egypt tourism corridor and reestablish bilateral tourism ties after over 40 years of disconnect.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt condemn Israel for blocking aid entry into Gaza

TEHRAN (Iran News) Egypt and Saudi Arabia have condemned Israel for cutting off the entry of goods and supplies into the Gaza Strip as the first phase of a ceasefire deal with Hamas expired.

The foreign ministries of Saudi Arabia and Egypt issued separate statements on Sunday after Israel stopped humanitarian aid into the besieged territory to pressure Hamas to accept a proposal made by the United States to extend the ceasefire agreement’s first phase that expired a day earlier.

Egypt, which alongside the U.S. and Qatar has mediated the Gaza ceasefire deal, said that the Israeli measure to block aid was a clear violation of the agreement and international humanitarian law, according to Palestine’s Sama news agency.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry also said that Israel’s use of starvation policy against Palestinian civilians and putting pressure on them through imposing a blockade are unjustified and unacceptable.

The ministry called on the international community to fulfill its responsibility to stop illegal and inhumane measures against civilian lives, and to condemn any attempt aimed at misusing humanitarian conditions for political purposes.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned Israel’s halt of humanitarian aid into Gaza to use it as a tool for extortion and collective punishment.

This action, the ministry said, is a blatant violation of international law and a direct infringement of the rules of international humanitarian law, according to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

Riyadh renewed calls on the international community to stop these actions, activate international accountability mechanisms, and ensure that Palestinians in Gaza have sustainable access to aid.

Trump threatens to cut aid to Jordan, Egypt if they reject his Gaza plan

TEHRAN (Iran News) U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to cut off aid to Jordan and Egypt if they refuse to take Palestinian inhabitants of Gaza, who would be forcibly relocated under his controversial plan for the coastal enclave.

Trump made the threat in an interview with FOX News aired on Monday, where he also acknowledged that Palestinians would have “no right of return” to Gaza.

Trump’s proposal for the United States to “take over” and “own” Gaza after its residents are transferred to neighboring countries has been met with strong rebukes from the Arab world and the rest of the international community.

United Nations experts say any forced displacement of Palestinians from their homeland would be illegal under international law and would constitute a “war crime and ethnic cleansing.”

Asked by FOX News where the displaced Palestinians might go, Trump suggested, “I think I could make a deal with Jordan. I think I could make a deal with Egypt.”

Jordan and Egypt, which receive substantial U.S. military and economic assistance, have firmly rejected any proposals to resettle more Palestinians within their borders.

Iran-Egypt Trade Sees 67% Growth

TEHRAN (Iran News) Seyed Rouhollah Latifi stated on Friday, coinciding with the Iranian President’s visit to Egypt for the D-8 summit, that trade relations between the two countries have experienced many ups and downs, much like their political relations. However, with the strengthening of political ties and both nations joining BRICS, there has been a noticeable increase in direct trade between Iran and Egypt.

He elaborated that in the first eight months of this year, over 35,883 tons of goods worth $17,186,348 were exchanged between the two nations, signifying a 65% rise in weight and a 67% rise in value compared to the same timeframe last year.

Latifi further highlighted that Iran’s exports to Egypt accounted for 28,116 tons of goods valued at $13,798,476, reflecting a 30% increase in weight and a 41% increase in value compared to the previous year.

According to him, Iran’s imports from Egypt reached 7,767 tons of goods valued at $3,387,872, demonstrating a significant 592% increase in value compared to the same period last year.

Regarding the nature of Iran’s exports to Egypt, Latifi noted that steel and iron products accounted for 27,206 tons valued at $13,271,737, representing 96.8% of the weight and 96.1% of the value of Iran’s total exports to Egypt during this period. Following these, laboratory measurement kits, pistachios, car clutch components, various types of marble, travertine, sodium hydroxide, tomato paste, tractors, and agricultural machinery were also exported.

On the topic of Iran’s imports from Egypt, he explained that during the first eight months of this year, over 7,580 tons of manganese ore worth $1,463,605 were imported, constituting 97.5% of the weight and 43.2% of the value of Iran’s total imports from Egypt.

Following manganese, Iran also imported 12.5 tons of circuit breakers valued at $1,004,419, razors worth $359,900, double-edged blades worth $165,325, electronic components valued at $155,610, potassium sulfate worth $138,711, flow meters worth $14,233, and glass components for lamps and lights valued at $12,750 during this time.

Latifi added that Egypt’s foreign trade in 2023 reached approximately $115 billion, consisting of $72.4 billion in imports and $42.5 billion in exports. Of the total exports, $28.5 billion was non-oil products, while $14 billion comprised oil and electricity exports.

He noted that major Egyptian exports for 2023 included ready-made clothing ($2.3 billion), urea fertilizer ($2.1 billion), plastics ($2 billion), and natural gas ($1.95 billion).

Turkey emerged as the largest destination for Egyptian exports in 2023, purchasing $4.5 billion worth of goods, followed by Italy and Saudi Arabia.

Regarding the classification of goods imported to Egypt, Latifi stated that 36.3% were intermediate goods, 17.9% capital goods, 14.6% fuel, and 12.5% consumer goods, which are categorized as significant imports.

In terms of values, Egypt imported $5.1 billion of fuel, $4.8 billion of plastics, $3.5 billion of wheat, and $2.8 billion of pharmaceuticals in 2023, with China, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Russia being the four major trading partners supplying goods to Egypt.

Despite the historical fluctuations in commercial relations over more than six decades, both under the previous regime and in the past four decades, Latifi emphasized that rebuilding these relations has been time-consuming for various reasons. However, he expressed optimism about the current intentions of both governments and viewed the recent eight-month trade growth between Iran and Egypt as a potential beginning for economic flourishing, especially with the Iranian President’s visit to Egypt. He hopes that the current share of less than half a percent of Egypt’s $115 billion market can exceed $1 billion through the removal of existing trade and political hurdles.
