TEHRAN (Iran News) – Election hype begins as rumors emerge about high profile candidates . According to Fars News Agency, two of the high-profile presidential candidates will probably be found incompetent, as heated debates surfaced in the Guardian Council over their records.

The report did not give names, but pointed to certain clues about the candidates.

Fars claimed that one of the candidates will not be confirmed because one of his children is currently studying in the United States, as the other candidate is suffering from a kind of unidentified disease.

The Guardian Council has repeatedly stated that it will review the records with careful precision and reasonable speed regardless of outside pressure.

MP: I have presented documents against Jahangiri

Nasrollah Pejmanfar, a senior MP, said on Sunday that he has presented documents against presidential candidate Es’haq Jahangiri to the Guardian Council.

Pejmanfar, the head of the Article 90 Committee of the Parliament, said Jahangiri, the currently first vice president, has had records of financial corruption and has been sentenced to a one-year dismissal from government duties and posts.

Jahangiri is a high profile candidate, representing the pro-reform Servants of Construction Party.

He had recently appointed Hossein Mar’ashi, a senior member of the party, as his campaign manager; Fatemeh Pahlavani as his spokesperson and secretary of the policymaking council; and Mohammad Rahbari as his senior assistant.

The final names of the candidates will be announced on Tuesday, May 25, Guardian Council spokesman Abbasali Kadkhodaei said on Sunday.

He also said that there won’t be time to review the records again, hence, protests will not be heard.

The presidential election will be held on June 18. Many opinion polls show that Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raeisi enjoys lead over other candidates.

Judiciary Furloughs 70000 Prisoners to Prevent Spread of Coronavirus

IRAN NEWS NATIONAL DESK

TEHRAN – Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raeisi says Iran has temporarily released around 70,000 prisoners in order to prevent a further spread of the new coronavirus.

“Prisoners will continue to be furloughed as long as [this measure] does not interfere with the society’s security,” Raeisi told judicial authorities on Monday. “The priority lies with those who have underlying health conditions,” he added.

The chief justice said Iran’s judicial apparatus has also prioritized processing the cases of individuals charged with hoarding hygiene products and other medical requirements amid the country’s efforts to curb the outbreak.

“The hoarders will be tried earlier than they are due in open courts, and the hoarded items will soon be distributed throughout the nation,” he said.

The health of people would never be up for a bargain, Raeisi stressed, adding that hoarding medical commodities in the current circumstances is playing with the lives of people and could not be forgiven by any means.

The novel coronavirus, which first emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, has killed more than 3,800 people and infected over 108,000 others in at least 95 countries.

Hojjatoleslam Raeisi also urged the government and economic bodies to find ways to alleviate the economic burdens on people whose businesses have been affected by the virus. He also urged banks not to put pressure on repayment of loans by fining defaulters.

On the quarantine of cities, he said it is the task of special headquarters which is in charge of fight with this virus, adding that any decision by the headquarters should be observed by all.

He also hailed public aids in fight with coronavirus, adding that country needs a national unity and determination to overcome this inauspicious virus, adding that unity and integrity of all bodies and organizations is inevitable in this critical period.

He also warned rumor-mongers who play the role of fifth column of enemies in the country who try to create tension by repeating enemies’ words about the death toll of the virus in the country, reiterating they will be dealt harshly.

Raeisi stresses need for keeping Palestinian issue alive

The Custodian of Astan Quds Razavi stressed the issue of Palestine as the most important issue of the Muslim World and condemned US’ intention to keep economic pressure on Tehran.

Center of Supervision on Mosques Affairs and presence of Imams and clerics of Tehran at Islamic Culture and Relations Organization held the 16th International Conference on World Mosque Day in Tehran.

Raeisi, the Custodian of Astan Quds Razavi and prominent preacher of this conference emphasized on the role of mosques as the fort and symbol of resistance for Muslims community.

He mentioned the issue of Al- Aqsa mosque as the most important issue of the Muslim World and asked for keeping alive the issue of Al-Aqsa till its liberation from Zionist regime.

“The Deal of Century theory is not a new phenomenon. Youth have to know the history of Palestine. They (Zionist regime and US) want some parts of Sina Desert of Egypt through the support of Saudi Arabia in order to construct towns for Palestinians. They want to displace and transplant about five million Palestinians to other countries in order to undermine the issue of Palestine as the land of all Muslims”, Raeisi said.

He emphasized “US, GB and their supporters have to know that they are the only losers of this deal.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said “our Leader believes that no war will happen against Iran, since enemy’s strategy had been failed before, during the eight years of Iran–Iraq war. That’s why they keep pressure on Iran to negotiate in order to undermine the regional penetration of Iran”.

The previous presidency candidate of Iran pointed to internal roots of economic problems of Iran and asked for economic change and development in the country, in addition to inviting youth to participate in various aspects of the Iranian economic field, as the best way for challenging US economic pressure.

He criticized secular approach to mosques and condemned intentions for keeping mosques far apart from politics, saying enemy is no longer able to propagate secularism in our community.”
