Dutch police arrest 50 pro-Palestinian protestors: Report

TEHRAN (Iran News) The police also arrested more than 300 others and expelled them from Amsterdam, Reuters reported on Monday.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered in Dam Square in Amsterdam, chanting “Free Palestine” and “Amsterdam says no to genocide,” according to the Reuters report.

A local court in the Netherlands soon ratified a ban presented by the city council on holding demonstrations, leading to the arrest of hundreds of the protestors.

The report also says that the police used violence when arresting some protestors.

Despite the police behavior towards the protestors, Amsterdam extended the ban on demonstrations till November 14.

The violence recently committed by fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv F.C. during a football match with AFC Ajax and the false news reported from the Amsterdam incident are efforts to excuse European countries for their support for the Zionists.

The killing of over 43,000 Palestinians, the destruction of the Gaza Strip, the bombardment of hospitals, and the massacre of correspondents and medical personnel are all signs of genocide, which disrespects international regulations.

Dutch artifacts, artworks to be showcased in Iran

A collection of Dutch antiquities and artworks will be showcased at the National Museum of Iran, said the head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization on Sunday.

Ali Asghar Mounesan said on Sunday that a 300-item collection of Dutch artworks and artifacts will be exhibited at the Tehran-based National Museum of Iran in the coming month.

Titled as ‘archeology and art in the Netherlands, narrated by Drents Museum’, the exhibition includes Dutch artworks of 18th to 20th century, he added.

Holding these exhibitions shows Iran’s determination in expanding cultural ties with other countries, Mounesan highlighted.

Nearly 200 Iranian antique items from National Museum of Iran is currently being showcased in Assen-based Drents Museum, the Netherlands. The exhibition, titled as ‘Cradle of Civilization’ started on June 7 and goes through November 18.

Iran’s Alireza Jahanbakhsh named top scorer in Dutch Eredivise

With 21 goals for the Dutch professional football club AZ Alkmaar, Iran international winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh has capped off the season as the top scorer in the Eredivisie league.

The Iranian star playing winger for AZ Alkmaar capped off the season with a hat-trick in the 88th minute to seal a 6-0 win against PEC Zwolle, raising his total goals tally to 21. The tally made him the first Asian ever to finish as the highest-scoring player in an Eredivisie campaign.

Meanwhile, the AZ Alkmaar finished third in the Eredivisie league with 71 points. Jahanbakhsh is the third AZ Alkmaar player to win the Eredivisie top goalscorer title in the last 10 years.

The FootballTalentScout twitter account described Alireza Jahanbakhsh’s stats in the Eredivisie this season as ‘unreal’ with 33 games, 21 goals, 12 assists, 78 key passes and 111 successful dribbles.

Dutch university, Iranian institute team up to honor Sanai expert De Bruijn

TEHRAN – Iran’s Book City Institute and Leiden University in the Netherlands have teamed up to honor J.T.P. De Bruijn, a distinguished Dutch expert on the Persian mystic poet Sanai (1087-1131).

The honoring ceremony will take place at the university on Friday, the institute announced in a press release on Tuesday.

A number of Iranian and Dutch Iranologists and Persian literati are scheduled to deliver several lectures during the ceremony.

An assistant professor of Persian studies at Leiden University, the 86-year-old De Bruijn is the author of “Persian Sufi Poetry: An Introduction to the Mystical Use of Classical Persian Poems”.

Sanai was one of the earlier Sufi poets. Rumi acknowledged Sanai and Attar as his two primary inspirations, saying, “Attar is the soul and Sanai its two eyes, I came after Sanai and Attar.”

Sanai is best known for his long didactic poem that is usually known by its Arabic title, Hadiqat al-Haqiqa wa-Shari’at al-Tariqa (The Garden of Truth and the Law of the Right Path), which contains mystical teachings intermingled with proverbs, fables and anecdotes.

Iranian Official Highlights Dutch Support for JCPOA

TEHRAN– The Netherlands has adopted a policy opposite to that of the US toward the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a top Iranian official said, adding that a group of visiting Dutch lawmakers have leveled outspoken criticism at the US for lack of commitment to the nuclear deal.

Speaking to reporters in Tehran after a meeting with members of the Dutch parliamentary delegation, member of Iran’s Expediency Council Ali Akbar Velayati said the Netherlands’ policy toward the JCPOA -the nuclear agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany)- is totally different from that of the US.

The Dutch lawmakers voiced full support for the nuclear deal, and explicitly criticized the US for lack of commitment to the JCPOA, Velayati added.

He then noted that the European MPs were very eager to know about the investment opportunities in Iran, and also stressed the need for safeguarding the JCPOA.

In October 2016, Iran’s ambassador to Netherlands highlighted the importance of bilateral relations between the two countries, saying Tehran and Amsterdam plan to promote trade ties based on a well-defined roadmap.

Diplomatic and trade relations between Iran and European countries have improved greatly since the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (also known as E3+3) came into force in January 2016.
