The screening program was also followed by a tribute to Felicetta Ferraro, the former Italian cultural attaché to Iran who died on June 2, 2019 in Florence.

During her tenure of service in Iran (2000-2008), Ferraro efficiently supported academic and cultural cooperation between the University of Tehran and Italian universities and cultural institutions.

When she returned to Italy upon the end of her services, she continued her support of Iranian culture by establishing a publishing house in Italy called Ponte 33 (the Italian translation of “Si-o-Se-Pol”) to introduce Iranian society and Persian speaking countries to European and, in particular, to Italian readers.

She also helped with the organization of many other cultural events related to Iranian and Italian culture, including photo and book exhibitions, seminars and literary panel discussions on both contemporary and classic personalities.

Puya Badkubeh was named best director for acclaimed movie “Dressage”, while “Return” by Shahriar Purseyyedan won the award for best short spiritual film.

“Return” is about Rahim, a man who after 23 years in prison returns to his hometown to meet his brother.

“The Song of the Tree” by Aibek Daiyrbekov from Kyrgyzstan received the best film award in the Asian film competition and “Namdev Bhau in Search of Silence” by Dar Gai from India was picked as best film in the spiritual film section.

A lineup of 29 Iranian feature and short films went on screen in various sections of the 17th Dhaka International Film Festival, which was held from January 10 to 18.

The film is competing in the Asian New Talent Award section of the festival, which will be held from June 16 to 25.

“Blue Amber” and “The Road Not Taken” both from China, “Born Bone Born” from Japan and “Guang” from Malaysia will be screened in the section.

“Hattrick” by Iranian director Ramtin Lavvafi will be screened in the official competition of the festival. Seven other films, including “Friday’s Child” by American director A.J. Edwards and “The Way to Mandalay” by Ole Bornedal from Denmark, will also compete for a Golden Goblet in this section.
