TEHRAN (Iran News) Speaking to IRNA’s correspondent on Monday, Ebrahim Azizi said Americans should know that Iranians, their armed forces, and all institutions would defend the country’s material and spiritual values with all their might, whether on battle filed or diplomatic table.

Azizi made the remarks in reference to the repeated US threats and its military buildup in the region with the aim of intimidating Iran, despite holding talks to resolve nuclear and sanctions related issue.

Americans have not been able to achieve any of their goals over the past seven decades, he said, adding that Iran reciprocates respect, but also acts decisively in the face of threats.

Regarding the regional countries that are trying to prevent a war from happening, he reminded the recent warning of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei that if the American military mischief would bring the greatest damage to the region. “diplomacy”

The head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament, while condemning the hostile and war-mongering policies of the US and the Israeli regime, said that Iran had regularly called on regional nations to join hands to ensure the security of West Asia.

In recent months and days, the US has increased its military and warship presence in the region, with American officials, especially President Donald Trump using outrageous and provocation remarks aimed at destabilizing the region.

Despite engaging the US in indirect negotiations, Iran has repeatedly stated that American bases and all of Washington’s interests would legitimate targets if the country was attacked.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has warned of the enemies’ efforts to stoke tensions between Iran and its neighbors.

Ayatollah Khamenei touched on Iran’s long borders with many and sometimes important and influential countries, saying the policy of the government to communicate with its neighbors is very important and right.

“Foreign hands are at work to create problems between Iran and its neighbors. You should not allow this policy to be realized,” the Leader told a group of Iranian Foreign Ministry officials and ambassadors to other countries in Tehran.

“The policy of communication with Islamic countries, even those far away, as well as with like-minded and supporting countries is important,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.

The Leader touched on the ongoing transformation in the world order and its frequent use in the diplomatic literature.

“The transformation in the world order is a long-term process full of uncertainties tied to possible unforeseen events, and different countries have different and conflicting opinions and approaches toward it.”

Ayatollah Khamenei said a proper placement of Iran in the new order by monitoring and evaluating global developments and knowing the exact direction of events is important.

“Based on this observation and evaluation, practical suggestions should be drawn out,” the Leader said, adding Iran’s ambassadors and representatives should play an important role in this regard, especially in the countries which have a say in international issues.

Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the need for Iranian officials to pursue negotiations with international sides from a position of dignity, noting that leniency in foreign policy does not conflict with fundamentals and principles.

“Dignity in foreign policy means negation of the diplomacy of imploring,” the Leader said.

The Leader underlined that Iranian diplomats and envoys should never pin their hopes on a specific political figure, and get carried away by others’ comments and actions.

“Dignity means we should not put absolute trust in others, but rather rely on our own principles,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

The Leader said wisdom means taking landmark decisions within the course of international interactions.

“Wisdom means acting prudently, sensibly and considerately in all bilateral and multilateral interactions, and steering clear of derogatory, scathing and disparaging comments. Wisdom means every move is anchored in reasonableness, and carefully thought out and calculated,” the Leader of the Islamic Revolution highlighted.

Ayatollah Khamenei said expediency in foreign policy means knowing how to stay flexible, as flexibility does not conflict with fundamentals and principles.

He also called on Iranian ambassadors to employ “good, timely and well thought out” personal initiatives during interactions with foreign authorities.

The Leader described the Iranian envoys as representatives of the nation’s identity and character, saying, “Iranian diplomats should be a symbol of faith, love for dear Iran, zeal and determination. They should be dynamic and vigorous, and their remarks and actions should garner respect for Iranian people.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – From Pakistan to Lebanon, Saudi Arabia is scaling back its famed chequebook diplomacy, a longstanding policy of splashing petro-dollars in exchange for influence, which observers say has yielded few tangible gains.

For decades, the wealthy kingdom funneled billions in aid to its allies — and to its enemies’ enemies — in a bid to bolster its position as an Arab powerhouse and “leader of the Muslim world”.

But as plummeting demand has sapped its oil revenues, the kingdom is rethinking old alliances that Saudi observers say have swallowed their cash while offering little in return, at a time when its quest for regional supremacy is increasingly challenged by rivals Iran, Turkey and Qatar.

A swathe of regional countries, from Jordan and Lebanon to Egypt, Palestine and Pakistan, have been the top recipients of Saudi aid over the past decade, said Middle East expert Yasmine Farouk.

“The dual economic impact of the coronavirus and low oil prices, however, may lead Saudi Arabia to restructure and rationalize its aid,” said Farouk, from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

“The country is already seeking to end the perception of being ‘an ATM’.”

– ‘Party is over’ –

Saudi Arabia appears frustrated with Pakistan after the longstanding ally pushed Riyadh to take a firm stand on the disputed region of Kashmir and threatened to take the issue to other Muslim forums.

Such a threat is particularly disconcerting for Saudi Arabia, which is home to Islam’s holiest sites and views itself as the leader of the Muslim world.

The kingdom recently recalled $1 billion of a $3 billion loan from cash-strapped Pakistan, and an expired multi-billion dollar oil credit facility to Islamabad has not been renewed, a diplomatic source told AFP.

“Pakistani elites have a bad habit of taking Saudi support for granted, given what Saudi has done for Pakistan over the decades,” tweeted Ali Shihabi, a Saudi author and analyst.

“Well the party is over, and Pakistan needs to deliver value to this relationship. It’s no longer a free lunch or a one-way street.”

Riyadh’s ties with Pakistan have historically been “very warm” but the relationship has been lopsided, said Saudi prince Talal bin Mohammad al-Faisal.

“It (has) only benefited one side in ‘real world’ terms,” he tweeted. “That side is Pakistan.”

– ‘Take their money’ –

Pakistan and Egypt, another ally which has received billions in aid, rebuffed calls for ground troops to support the Saudi-led military aggression on Yemen.

Further stirring consternation in Riyadh, a leaked 2015 audio recording showed Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi allegedly mocking Persian Gulf powers including Saudi Arabia, saying they were rolling in money “like rice”.

That sentiment was echoed in 2018 by US President Donald Trump when he hosted Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the Oval Office and held up a chart listing military hardware sales worth billions to Riyadh.

“Take their money,” Trump told NBC News the following year, justifying backing the kingdom’s rulers after journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder sparked global uproar.

With so many of its relationships rendered transactional, Riyadh is struggling to win respect and its once-leading role in the Muslim world is increasingly challenged by its rivals, observers say.

The Saudis are increasingly resentful of “ungrateful” allies, said Farouk.

States that have traditionally benefited from Saudi largesse, including Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine, have “already seen instances in which aid was frozen, decreased or cut off”, she added.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s government spokesman Ali Rabiei said Tuesday that US President Donald Trump had four years during his tenure to initiate diplomacy with the Islamic Republic, but he failed to grasp the opportunity and instead directed the White House to make “the worst of mistakes” in dealing with Tehran.

Rabiei made the remarks in response to Trump, who recently told his supporters at a campaign fundraiser that he would reach a deal with Iran “within four weeks” if he is re-elected in November’s election, Press TV reported.

The official dismissed Trump’s claims as a mere ploy to draw more votes, adding that the US president, if re-elected, “will not succeed in striking an agreement as long as he continues the policy of pressure against Iran.”

“Mr. Trump had four years’ time to start successful diplomacy with Iran by choosing the right, agreed upon and legal path. Not only did he fail to do so, but he also made the worst mistakes of America in decades,” Rabiei said.

America’s Iran policy took a highly belligerent turn under Trump, who has overseen a campaign of “maximum” economic pressure accompanied by military provocations.

The US unleashed the “toughest ever” sanctions against Iran in 2018, when the Trump administration scrapped the 2015 nuclear agreement.

Trump also pushed Tehran and Washington to the brink of an all-out war by ordering the assassination of Iran’s Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani while the top commander was on an official visit to Iraq in January.

Rabiei further said Iran stands ready to keep up “maximum resistance” for as long as necessary if the US refuses to stop its hostilities.

The spokesman was also asked about the recent US push to extend a UN arms embargo on Iran that is due to expire on October 18. The lifting of the ban is part of the JCPOA, which was endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

Rabiei warned that the US is exploiting the UNSC mechanism to undermine multilateralism and international institutions.

He voiced Iran’s readiness to “deliver a proportionate and decisive response to any provocative and illegal action. Any resolution in violation of UNSC Resolution 2231 is unacceptable and is a mockery of international law,” he said.

The spokesman further emphasized that Washington had forfeited its right to have a say in the JCPOA.

“The US has withdrawn from the JCPOA and has no right either to the text of the agreement or the UNSC Resolution until it fully returns to it and fulfills all its obligations,” he pointed out.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani once again said that Tehran supports for dialogue and ceasefire in Yemen, adding that such a path is logical if the talks are genuinely after establishing peace in the war-torn country.

In a meeting with Omani Deputy Parliament Speaker Abdullah Al Amri on the sidelines of 12th plenary meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) in Turkey’s resort city of Antalya, Larijani said Tehran supports choosing dialogue to settle the conflict in Yemeni as a good measure, as long as the talks lead to an actual ceasefire in effect.

Noting Oman’s approach toward the crisis in Yemen, Larijani said, “Your role was wise and rational. We hope that talks on Yemen would lead to a practical measure and an actual ceasefire.”

He backed restoration of the ceasefire in Yemen as a “logical path”, saying that the warring parties need to usher in peace talks to resolve the dispute.

The Omani official, for his part, said his country is informed on some talks taking place on Yemen, voicing readiness to increase efforts to find a solution to end the war in the crisis-hit and impoverished Arab country.

“The situation in Yemen is improving. Efforts to settle the conflict have been formed in the most appropriate way possible,” he reassured.

Elsewhere, he touched upon the project of gas transfer from Iran to Oman via sea, saying “there is a strong resolve to carry out the project. The only problems that remain are technical and financial, which can be solved by relevant ministers of both countries.”

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing the Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the war has claimed more than 100,000 lives over the past four and a half years.

The war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories. The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.

The Western-backed military aggression, coupled with a naval blockade, has plunged Yemen into “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis”, according to the United Nations.

Last Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined his country’s support for peaceful solutions and talks to resolve the crisis in Yemen.

“Iran sees no benefit in continued war and siege in Yemen, but it welcomes peaceful solutions,” Zarif wrote on his twitter page in Arabic language.

He added that Iran welcomes all initiatives which invite to talks and persuades everyone to use peaceful solutions.

In a statement on Saturday, Abbas Mousavi reacted to the recent fuss made by the US officials, especially by the US National Security Council’s spokesperson who called on Iran to meet diplomacy with diplomacy.

“Iran responds to diplomacy with diplomacy and to pressure with resistance,” Mousavi underlined.

However, he added, it appears that in the lexicon of the American authorities, diplomacy means sanctions and economic terrorism.

“Thus far we have not seen anything other than illegal sanctions and economic war and terrorism from the US government to respond,” the Iranian diplomat added.

In a message on his Twitter account a few days ago, Mousavi had denounced the US decision to impose new sanctions on senior Iranian political and military officials, saying, “Imposing useless sanctions on (the office of) Iran’s Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) and the commander of Iran’s diplomacy (Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif) is the permanent closure of the path of diplomacy.”

“Trump’s desperate administration is destroying the established international mechanisms for maintaining world peace and security,” he deplored.

Last week, US President Donald Trump announced new sanctions against top Iranian officials, including the office of Ayatollah Khamenei, Iran’s foreign minister, and senior IRGC Aerospace Force and Navy commanders.

The US had already blacklisted the entire IRGC, whose Aerospace Force units shot down an American drone that intruded into the airspace of Iran on June 20.

Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, Leader’s top military aide, made the remark on Tuesday at a national conference on ‘water diplomacy and hydropolitic opportunities in West Asia’, stressing that shared water resources can either become a factor for further interaction and cooperation among countries or a serious challenge.

He added that Iran, sharing borders with 15 countries and water resources with 12 of them, seeks to establish constructive interactions with the region in order to promote water diplomacy.

According to him, Iran exports 1.2 billion cubic meters of water, over seven billion cubic meters of which are destined for Iraq.

“We need to open talks with Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey and other countries sharing water resources with us,” he stressed.

“Iran is one of the most unique countries in the world in terms of hydropolitic relations,” he said. “Central Asia could become the most controversial region in future, and Afghanistan could be the source of future water developments.”

He went on to add, “Iran is seeking in earnest to establish sustainable security in West Asia, and the results of the discussions in this conference will be presented to Foreign Ministry and other relevant bodies for making the necessary decisions.”

“We believe that any pressure on the Qatari government and people is unacceptable, and if there are differences between the countries of the region, especially the neighbor countries, they should only be resolved through dialogue,” Hassan Rouhani asserted.

The president expressed Iran’s willingness to expand cooperation and relations with Qatar, adding “Iran is ready to cooperate with Qatari government and nation, and it does not allow the Muslim people of the country to suffer unjust and unfair pressures.”

Also in the meeting. Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud, Qatar’s Speaker of the Consultative Assembly, who is in Iran to attend the ongoing 13th Session of Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference, praised Iranian government’s support for the people and the government of Qatar, saying “we are happy that the relationship between Tehran and Doha is based on friendship, brotherhood and good neighborliness, and we must strive to expand our relations in this regard.”

Stressing that regional issues should be resolved based on dialogue, understanding and friendship, the speaker of Consultative Assembly of Qatar added “thanks to the help and support of its friends especially Iran, Qatar today is firmly standing against allegations and plots better than the past.”
