TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran Holds Election, Showcases Democracy. Iranians went to polls to elect the 13th president of the Islamic Republic of Iran amid negative propagations from the foreign-based opposition and enemies of the country.

Under observing sanitary protocols for the COVUD-19 pandemic, polls have opened nationwide in Iran’s 2021 presidential election. Over 59.3 million Iranians are eligible to vote for one of four candidates running.

Polls opened across the country at 07:00 am local time on Friday, June 18, and ran the late in the evening. Over 59.3m Iranians were eligible to vote for one of the four remaining candidates in the race.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei cast his ballot early on.

“Election Day is the day of the Iranian nation. Today, people are in charge,” Ayatollah Khamenei said after casting his vote. “Even one single vote counts. No one should say ‘What will my one vote do?’ These one votes become millions when combined.”

The Leader also called on the Iranian nation to participate in the election as early as possible.

Ayatollah Khamenei also expressed his gratitude to the reporters who are busy with their job in the voting process and recommended the masses to participate in the election with due care, recognition and consideration.

In saying that every single vote definitely matters, Imam Khamenei advised the people, “You should participate and do this with a pure, divine intention. I advise you to do this important task at the earliest possible. The sooner you do this, the better.”

In referring to the anniversary of the birth of Imam Reza (AS), Imam Khamenei expressed hope that this Election Day will be a day of celebration for the Iranian people and that the nation will benefit from this election. In the end, the Leader thanked the election officials and the journalists who were present.”

Senior Iranian officials, including the heads of the three branches of government, also cast their votes at polling states in the capital, Tehran.

Addressing the people after casting his vote, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Iran was among a few countries in the world whose elections attract international attention.

He said, “People should be mindful that the whole world is today focused on the ballot boxes and the people’s queues to cast their world. God willing, we will act in a way that it will make our friends across the world happy and frustrate enemies.”

Majlis Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf also cast his vote for 13th Presidential Election in a polling station in Tehran’s Abouzar Neighborhood on Friday.

Officials have stressed that health protocols will be strictly observed in all polling stations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mohsen Rezaei Mir-Ghaed, Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi, Abdolnaser Hemmati, and Seyyed Amir-Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi are the four candidates for Iran 2021 Presidential Election.

According to the polls, Hojjatoleslam Raisi is the favorite to win the election with overwhelming majority.

Hundreds of foreign journalists are covering this major political event in the country which shows democracy in Iran

TEHRAN (Iran News) – US House Democrats moved aggressively to draw up formal articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump on Thursday, with Speaker Nancy Pelosi saying he “leaves us no choice” but to act swiftly as he is likely to corrupt the system again unless removed before next year election.

A strictly partisan effort at this point derided immediately by Trump and other leading Republicans as a sham and a hoax, it is a politically risky undertaking. Democrats say it is their duty, in the aftermath of the Ukraine probe to pursue Trump impeachment, while Republicans say this act will drive Pelosi’s majority from office, AP reported.

Congress must act, Pelosi said. “Democracy is what is at stake.”

“The president’s actions have seriously violated the Constitution,” she said in a somber address at the Capitol. “He is trying to corrupt, once again, the election for his own benefit. The president has engaged in abuse of power, undermining our national security and jeopardizing the integrity of our elections.”

Trump has insisted he did nothing wrong. He tweeted that the Democrats “have gone crazy.”

At the core of the impeachment, the probe is a July phone call with the president of Ukraine, in which Trump pressed the leader to investigate Democrats, including political rival Joe Biden. At the same time, the White House was withholding military aid from Ukraine, an ally bordering Russia.

Drafting articles of impeachment is a milestone moment, only the fourth time in US history, Congress has tried to remove a president, and it intensifies the rigid and polarizing partisanship of the Trump era that is consuming Washington and dividing the nation.

The speaker delivered her historic announcement in solemn tones at the Capitol, drawing on the Constitution and the Founding Fathers in forcefully claiming Congress’ oversight of the president in the nation’s system of checks and balances. Democrats are already beginning to prepare the formal charges, pushing toward House votes, possibly before Christmas.

“Sadly, but with confidence and humility, with allegiance to our founders and a heart full of love for America, today I am asking our chairmen to proceed with articles of impeachment,” Pelosi said.

Seemingly eager to fight, Trump tweeted that if Democrats “are going to impeach me, do it now, fast.” Though he has fought the House investigation, trying to bar current and former officials from testifying, he said he now wants to move on to a “fair trial” in the Senate.

Approval of articles of impeachment is considered likely in the Democratic-majority House. Conviction in a following trial in the Republican-dominated Senate seems very unlikely.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Tehran rejected a political UN human rights resolution against Iran as a “politically motivated” instance of hypocrisy and “abuse” of UN mechanisms by Western governments targeting independent states.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi made the comments on Thursday shortly after the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly passed a Canada-drafted resolution criticizing Iran’s human rights record earlier in the day, Press TV reported.

Of a total number of 182 countries participating in the vote, 84 voted in favor of the political UN human rights resolution while 30 voted against it. Another 66 states abstained.

During the voting session, representatives from countries including Pakistan, Syria, Venezuela, and Belarus expressed opposition to the motion.

China and Russia also rejected the resolution as “politicization” of human rights issues while North Korea and Cuba described the vote as an excuse for destabilizing and pressuring other governments.

Double standards

Speaking on Thursday, Mousavi said that among the states backing the resolution were “governments with a long record in the systematic violation of human rights.”

The spokesman added that countries whose interventions in foreign countries and “their allies’ dictatorships and occupation” have left “bitter memories for people across the world” are “in no position to make human rights recommendations for Iran.”

“One of the main backers of this resolution, the United States, is violating the most basic rights of more than 83 million Iranian citizens by engaging in economic terrorism, specifically targeting women, children, seniors, and medical patients,” he said.

Mousavi highlighted that certain backers of the resolution, such as Israel and other “backward regimes” in the region, are guilty of killing the people of Palestine, Yemen and oppressing domestic dissidents.

The spokesman added that the Universal Periodic Review, a periodic review of the rights situation held on a rotational basis for all UN member states every three years, presented a suitable opportunity to evaluate the conduct of states far from any sort of discrimination.

“Iran, as a religious democracy, seeks to take steps in the betterment of human and citizen rights on a domestic, regional and international level within the framework of its constitutional and civil commitments and international undertakings,” he said.

Canada, under the heavy influence of Zionist interest groups, is known to regularly draft an anti-Iran resolution every year.

Tehran has in response highlighted that Ottawa itself has long been involved in a broad range of human rights abuses at home and elsewhere.

Canada has proceeded with its plans to supply Saudi Arabia with weapons in the past year despite human rights concerns regarding their use in the ongoing war on Yemen.

Canada has also been accused of a wide range of abuses targeting its aboriginal population.

Foreign Minister Javad Zarif late on Wed. lashed out at Trump’s threats about cutting off financial assistance to those countries voting for a UN resolution against his decision on embassy relocation.

“Trump[‘s] regime exposes contempt for democracy through its threats against those who dare resist its thuggish demands at the UN — all while Trump insults Iran crudely as ‘dictatorship’,” Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif wrote in a tweet on Wednesday.

He went on to add, “US version of democracy stops at the rhetoric of either with us or against us.”

Zarif’s reaction came as the US administration threatened that it would halt its financial assistance for those countries that will vote in the UN General Assembly on Thursday for a proposed resolution which is drafted against Washington’s recognition of Jerusalem al-Quds as the capital of the Israeli regime.

“They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars, and then they vote against us. Well, we’re watching those votes. Let them vote against us. We’ll save a lot. We don’t care,” Trump told reporters at the White House on Wednesday.

The recognition was in line with Donald Trump’s decision to relocate US embassy in Tel Aviv to al-Quds, a move that has drawn strong criticism from the international community, even some of the US allies.

On Thursday, UN General Assembly will hold an emergency special meeting on Trump’s decision and put to the vote a resolution, days after Washington used its veto power to block a similar Egypt-drafted resolution against the move at the UN Security Council.

The UN General Assembly resolutions, unlike the ones passed in the Security Council, are non-binding.
