The Ten Manifestations of a Staunch Defense

TEHRAN (Iran News) First, the reason for this failure was Iran’s extensive defensive, offensive, and combat capabilities. For years Iran has invested in missile, drone, and defense networks, enabling it to repel many attacks and in turn deliver painful and irreparable responses.

Second, Iran is not confined to its own borders. The presence and support of allied groups in the region caused Israel to come under pressure from multiple fronts, making it impossible to fully focus on Iran.

Third, Iran’s vast geography and the dispersion of its infrastructure prevented the execution of any decisive and short-term operation. In reality, the enemy could not strike any vital point that would cause a rapid collapse.

Fourth, Israel’s internal situation was extremely fragile. Political divisions, social protests, and economic crisis tied the hands of this regime’s leaders and deprived them of the ability to mobilize fully.

Fifth, the resistance of the Iranian people and national spirit were strengthened during these days. Instead of creating fear and retreat, the attacks led to unity and an increased spirit of resistance.

Sixth, Israel could not enter into an all-out war, because it feared a strong reaction from global powers and the disruption of regional balance. The U.S., Europe, and the Arabs clearly did not want a wider war to ignite.

Seventh, with a smart deterrence policy, Iran demonstrated that no attack would go unanswered. This shifted the cost–benefit equation to Israel’s disadvantage—since relying on its expensive war machine was breaking the back of this regime.

Eighth, within such a short time frame, no military operation can “bring a country with Iran’s vast capacities to its knees.” Global experiences have also shown that blitz wars against countries with strategic depth are doomed to failure. It became clear that the Zionist regime and its allies acted hastily and delusionally in designing plans to divide and overthrow Iran’s system.

Ninth, during this period the world, inflamed by the Zionist regime’s crimes in Gaza and Palestine, shifted its support toward Iran. Through demonstrations, gatherings, and rallies under the flags of Iran and Palestine, the global news environment was pushed toward triumphant analyses in Iran’s favor. “Defense”

Tenth, the method of employing the variety and application of missiles and drones, in coordination between the Army and the IRGC, together with the media coverage of such operations—especially through real-time broadcasting on news networks—displayed hope and superiority. This served as proof of the rational foundation and authority that emerged from those decisions.

In the end, this 12-day battle, rather than yielding achievements for Israel and its allies, revealed its weaknesses. Once again it proved that with the continuation of the Islamic Revolution and religious vitality in the region and the world, the balance of power in the region has completely shifted in favor of Iran.

TEHRAN (Iran News) Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the spokeswoman for the administration unveiled plans to strengthen Iran’s defense capabilities.

Fatemeh Mohajerani said the administration has taken various sectors into consideration in the budget bill that it has submitted to the Parliament for the next Iranian fiscal year.

The cabinet has considered a 200 percent rise in the defense budget for the next year, she stated.

Pezeshkian went to the Parliament on October 22 to present the national budget for the Iranian calendar year 1404, which begins in March 2025.

He said a basic principle of the budget bill, drafted by his administration after two months of tireless efforts, was strengthening Iran’s defense power considering the regional circumstances and threats against the Iranian nation.

According to the president, the budget bill has also taken into account schemes to ensure economic growth, increase oil production capacity, enhance medication reserves, manage water distribution, and provide affordable housing for lower classes.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Activists gather at an airbase in Germany in protest against the Air Defender 2023 war games, the largest in the history of NATO.

Hundreds of activists demonstrate in front of the Wunstorf air base in the northern German city of Hanover ahead of the Air Defender 2023 military drills, the largest air force war games the U.S.-led NATO military alliance has ever conducted.

The drills, which are being hosted by Germany, and set to take place from the 12th to 23rd June have been labelled as “defensive” in nature.

However, according to officials, the war games have been designed to simulate a high-intensity conflict scenario, with participants focusing on air-to-air and air-to-ground combat, as well as air mobility and logistics. Other scenarios include working with ground troops from the air, airborne battles against enemy jets and the use of medium-range missiles by NATO fighter bombers.

The drills will see the participation of 10,000 military personnel and 250 war planes from 25 countries in a bid to show off military force against the West’s adversaries. The United States alone has dispatched 2,000 American Air Guard troops and around 100 warplanes to take part in the 12-day maneuvers.

Officials also say the U.S. military has sent F-35 war planes, NATO’s most modern fighter jet, to take part in the exercises, while the North Sea will see drills against submarines and ships.

German and American officials have branded the war games as “a show of force” to “impress allies and potential adversaries such as Russia.”
Russia will most certainly be studying the war games carefully.
While the NATO military alliance conducts the war games in the skies over Germany, several flight zones are set to be temporarily closed to civilian air traffic with delays to civilian flights expected.

In the largest deployment of air forces since NATO was formed, Sweden (which is seeking to become a NATO member), as well as Japan are also taking part, raising further eyebrows among anti-war activists.

People in Germany are concerned. Protesters in their hundreds, who took to the Wunstorf air base, home to the German air transport fleet (and one of the six military bases in Germany which will be used in the exercises), say it will send all the wrong signals to the outside world, in particular Russia.

The activists denounced the drills as offensive and measures that could escalate the crisis in Ukraine. They are demanding a diplomatic solution to the war along with a ceasefire.

Among the banners seen at the demonstration displayed slogans such as “Down with weapons! No to war! Disarmament now!”

Other footage at the airbase shows the protesters marching while holding flags and anti-NATO banners, displaying messages such as “Peace with Russia and China, Out of NATO”, and “Peace in Ukraine and with Russia, Stop the War, Negotiate Now” among others. The protesters have also demanded the removal of U.S. nuclear weapons from their country.

Gerhard Biederbeck, an anti-war activist said, “This is not funny and this is not a harmless maneuver. This is about life and death; this is about calling in the danger of the third World War”.

“The maneuver contributes to more rearmament,” Biederbeck added. “Right now every measure should be taken to diplomatically solve the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.”
Other activists have called on the German government to divert its foreign policy toward peace, calm, and negotiations. “NATO is calling for an air war over Germany. Germany is leading this maneuver and assumes military responsibility,” activist Ekkehard Lentz said.

This is not the first time that anti-NATO protests have been staged in Germany.

In the aftermath of the Ukraine conflict that erupted in February 2022, rallies against the U.S.-led military alliance have not been limited to Germany. Protests have gradually expanded to other European countries.

Protests against NATO and rising inflation in Europe are intertwined, as experts point out. It was NATO’s encroachment on Russian borders that triggered the Ukraine crisis, which in turn saw inflation rise significantly across the West.

On Sunday, protesters took to the streets of Stockholm to voice their anger at Sweden’s bid for NATO membership. The U.S.-led military alliance has been trying to bring Sweden into the fold before NATO leaders meet in Lithuania in July.
This month also saw thousands of Romanian teachers marching in the capital Bucharest in protest over pay as they concluded a third week of strike action for the first time since 2005. Unions have said the strike action is indefinite. Other Romanian sectors such as healthcare workers and the police force have also staged protests over pay and investment, while warning of possible strike action.
Poland, a strong supporter of NATO’s moves against Russia, has witnessed a rise in support for opposition parties who oppose measures taken by the government. Earlier this month, half a million people packed the streets of Warsaw in an anti-government demonstration.

Among the many protests in June, Italian protesters across the country waged anti-NATO rallies in a number of cities on the same day the country marked its annual Republic Day.

During the demonstration, protesters signed a petition demanding the government end its weapons shipments to Ukraine. The organizers argue it is impossible to achieve peace as long as Ukraine continues to receive arms from Western countries.

In April, tens of thousands of people rallied once again in the Czech capital Prague to protest high inflation and demand the government’s resignation.

Earlier in March a rally was organized by a new political party, referred to as PRO under an “against the poverty” banner.

Jindrich Rajchl, the head of the new party, blamed the European Union and the Czech government for soaring inflation. The demonstrators demanded the Czech Republic end its NATO membership. The protesters also condemned the government’s stance toward the Ukraine war.

In April, people held a rally in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, to protest against NATO and its support for the Ukraine war.

These are just some of the protests that have been held over the past few months. Other protests over the past year have been witnessed across Western Europe where inflation has also sky-rocketed as a result of unprecedented sanctions imposed on Russia, in particular its energy exports.

The Kremlin says it began a “special military operation” months after failing to receive security guarantees from NATO and the U.S. that the NATO eastward expansion will not bring security risks to Russian territory.

The mass protests signal that many have had enough with the cost of living crisis as they are appealing for an initiative to end the crisis in Ukraine, but that doesn’t appear to be on the minds of NATO leaders.
With the largest offensive war games in its history, the U.S.-led military alliance is sending a message to Russia that the NATO-backed war on Moscow is far from over.

NATO continues to send advanced weapons to Ukraine in a bid to contain Russia. The Kremlin says this will only prolong the suffering of Ukrainian people, who are caught in the middle.

Experts believe that the last issue in the thought process of policy makers in Washington, London and NATO headquarters is the suffering of the Ukrainian people.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Defense chief warns enemies about Iran’s military power . Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami sounds a strong warning aimed at Iran’s enemies, including the United States and Israel, about the power that is wielded by the country’s military forces.

“The power wielded by [Iran’s] Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) and Army have provided the country with security today and awarded it with active deterrence capability,” the defense chief said on Sunday in Tehran.

Iran’s enemies, however, have a hard time putting up with this reality, he added.

Nevertheless, they should know this that the Iranian servicemen “will resolutely keep on the path of the country’s martyrs in their purpose to safeguard the nation and Islam” under the command of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Hatami asserted.

Iran’s military forces, he added, will not abandon their struggle until they achieve victory and stand up to the world’s hegemonic powers just like a “solid arm,” the defense minister stated.

The minister was making the remarks at a ceremony held in commemoration of the former deputy chief of the IRGC’s Quds Force, General Mohammad Hejazi, who passed away earlier this month after years of suffering from the effects of chemical weapons used during the Western-backed Iraqi war of the 1980s on Iran.

Hatami noted the late military official’s remarkable contribution to Iran’s advisory support for Syria against foreign-backed Takfiri terrorists.

He said it was the late official and Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, the Quds Force’s former commander, who defeated the US and the terrorists’ efforts to afflict harm on “the roots of Islam and the Islamic Revolution in the region.”

General Soleimani, who used to direct the Iranian support for Damascus, was martyred in an American drone strike against Baghdad early last year. The atrocity came some three years after Tehran’s assistance enabled Syria to defeat the Takfiri terrorist group of Daesh.

As a result of the commanders’ endeavor, the regional resistance front has grown into a “an influential force to reckon with” in the face of the Israeli regime and the US, the defense chief concluded.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy on Wednesday received 188 new naval drones and helicopters, including three unmanned aerial vehicles unveiled for the first time.

In a ceremony in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas on Wednesday morning, the IRGC Navy commander said the new drones are capable of taking aerial images of fixed and mobile naval targets in combat operations.

According to Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri, all IRGC Navy operations are now carried out with homegrown drones as the new aircraft have joined its fleet.

Three drones have been unveiled for the first time, namely Sepehr vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drone, Shahab-2, and Hodhod-4 VTOL drone.

The IRGC Navy commander said the three new drones can take off from naval vessels.

Another drone that joined the IRGC Navy’s fleet was Mohajer-6, an all-weather pilotless aircraft with a range of 200 kilometers and designed to carry a payload of 4 missiles.

The other new products include two amphibious helicopters and four combat choppers armed with missiles.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Iranian officials have repeatedly underscored that the country will not hesitate to strengthen its military capabilities, including its missile power, which are entirely meant for defense, and that Iran’s defense capabilities will be never subject to negotiations.

Back in February 2018, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called for efforts to maintain and boost Iran’s defense capabilities, hitting back at the enemies for disputing the country’s missile program.

Commander Mousavi stressed that Iran’s Air Defense Force has made great achievements in the post-revolution era, especially after establishment of the Air Defense Base in 2008, IRNA reported on Monday.

Iran’s Air Defense Base is a military branch split from Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force that controls Iran’s military land-based air defense.

Touring different parts of the base in Tehran, Major General Mousavi exchanged views with Commander of Army Air Defense Force Brigadier General Alireza Sabahi-ard and his accompanying commanders.

He stressed the need for more cooperation between the armed forces in defending the Islamic Republic of Iran, adding that Iran’s air defense has a high capability in the region.

Commander Mousavi also hailed efforts made by air defense experts who have worked “to defend our beloved country.”

Earlier in the day, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei praised the Iranian Air Defense Force for its contribution to national security saying, Iran “owes its security to Air Defense preparedness and wakefulness.”

In a message on the occasion of the national Air Defense Day, the Leader said, “Send my regards to the vigilant staff of the country’s Air Defense. The country owes its security to Air Defense’s mobility and wariness. Our pious people are grateful for your unwavering efforts. Be appreciative of this.”

Ayatollah Khamenei’s message was conveyed to the Air Defense personnel by Head of the Leader’s military office Brigadier General Mohammad Shirazi.

He conveyed the message in a telephone conversation to Commander Sabahi-Fard on Monday.

Chief of Staff for the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran Major General Mohammad Bagheri and Syrian Minister of Defense Ali Abdullah Ayyoub signed an agreement on expanding military cooperation on Wednesday, Almayadeen reported.

The agreement emphasized the expansion of military and security cooperation between the two countries, the report added.

The two sides conferred on the latest development in Syria and stressed the need for the withdrawal of foreign forces from the country.

“If the US government was able to bring Iran, Syria and the Resistance to their knees, it would not hesitate for a moment,” Ali Ayyoub said.

He went on to say that Caesar Act prevents the Syrian people from having access to food and medicine and that terrorist groups in the country are part of the Israeli Regime aggression in the region.

General Bagheri further noted that Iran will strengthen Syrian air defense systems in order to boost military cooperation between the two countries.

According to Bagheri, regional nations and countries do not welcome the presence of the US and will respond to any foolish moves from the enemies.

“The agreement expands our mutual cooperation to counter US pressure,” he concluded.

In remarks on Wednesday, General Hatami strongly dismissed the calls for reduction of Iran’s missile capabilities as a condition for an end to the foreign sanctions.

“A bargain with the arrogant system over Iran’s missile power would be tantamount to removing the ceiling and walls of a house,” the minister said, warning that the enemies seek to restrict the Iranian nation’s resistance by limiting Iran’s missile power.

There is a consensus among all pillars of the Islamic Republic that it is necessary to boost the country’s defense capabilities and expand the missile power, Hatami underlined.

The defense minister also highlighted Iran’s “determining role” in regional equations, such as its positive role in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.

“In spite of all malicious activities, the enemies have failed to make our country insecure, and this results from the Islamic Republic’s deterrent power,” the minister added.

“Without a moment of hesitation, the country must move to acquire whatever is necessary for defense, even if the whole world is opposed to it,” Ayatollah Khamenei said at the time.

There is a palpable buzz in the policy circles of India ahead of Russian President Vladmir Putin’s much-anticipated visit to India next week (October 4-5). He will be attending the 19th India-Russia summit with focus on advancing bilateral ties between the two time-tested allies.

During the high-profile summit, the two sides are expected to follow up on acquiring five S-400 ‘Triumph’ missile systems, four Project 11356 frigates, 48 Mi-17V-5 helicopters and 200 Ka-226T helicopters from Russia, which might ruffle feathers in the power corridors of Washington.

New Delhi is hoping to build on the momentum of the successful summit held in Sochi in May this year between President Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Earlier this month (September 13-14), India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj also made a whirlwind visit to Russia to prepare the ground for the upcoming summit.

Following the visit, which was her third visit to Moscow in less than a year, Swaraj asserted that India attaches “highest importance” to its relations with Russia. “This partnership has strengthened over time and covers a vast agenda involving almost all sphere of human activity. India attaches the highest importance to its relations with Russia,” she said.

However, the ominous shadow of the U.S. hangs heavily over the growing defense cooperation between India and Russia. The Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) passed last year by the U.S. Congress imposes sanctions on some Russian companies and customers, which might affect the defense deal between New Delhi and Moscow.

India will need exemptions from CAATSA to buy the S-400 Triumf missile defense system as well as frigates and helicopters.

Pertinently, the issue of defense cooperation between India and Russia had figured during the 2+2 dialogue between India and the U.S. in New Delhi earlier this month. According to sources, India had strongly put across its case to the visiting U.S. delegation, which includes Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary James Mattis, and asked for a waiver on the acquisition of S-400 missiles from Russia.

“The good news for Moscow is that India, which follows an independent foreign policy, is likely to retain its defense ties with Russia,” Aleksei Zakharov, a visiting fellow at New Delhi-based Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses, wrote in a paper last week. “With the Moscow-Washington relationship in a downward spiral, Indian diplomacy will require a masterful approach in its interactions with the two.”

Zakharrov further stated that a closer engagement with the U.S. is a challenge for India, as this relationship is “not likely to be a partnership of equals”. “Washington is dominating the agenda of bilateral cooperation and even imposing pressure on New Delhi’s policies. The demands to cut off oil imports from Iran and halt the purchase of Russian military equipment are cases in point.”

Speaking to media on the sidelines of the UN Summit in New York last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said India will make a “sovereign decision” on Russian defense purchases, which are facing possible U.S. sanctions.

“I understand that India will be taking sovereign decision (on) how to proceed and what kind of weapons it needs,” he said at a news conference on Friday.

On the question if proposed $8.5 billion defense deal with Russia, expected to be signed next week during President Putin’s visit to India, was on hold, Lavrov said: “I haven’t heard anything about the timing, about postponement, about putting anything on hold.”

In India, the opinion in intelligentsia, media and policy circles seems to be heavily tilted in favor of India’s ties with Russia. Brahma Chellenay, a geostrategic and commentator, in an interview with Tehran Times recently, said the ties between Russia and India should not be affected by U.S. sanctions.

“Russia is a tried and tested friend of India. Although the U.S. has now become the largest seller of arms to India, Russia remains important to India’s interests. India has made it clear to the U.S. that it will go ahead with the S-400 purchase and other defense deals with Russia,” he asserted.
