Man Hanged in Iran for Spying for CIA

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A retired employee of Iran’s Defense Ministry has been hanged for spying and providing the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) with information on Iranian missiles, the Judiciary’s spokesman said.

In remarks at a press conference on Tuesday, Gholam Hossein Esmaeili said the spy, named Reza Askari, has been hanged for spying for the CIA.

After retirement from the Defense Ministry’s Aerospace Department in 2012, the convict was connected with the CIA, sold information on the production of Iranian missiles, and received the money in exchange, the spokesman added.

He said Askari was under intelligence surveillance and was finally put to death last week after the trial.

Ruhollah Zam Appeals against ‘Death Sentence’

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Ruhollah Zam, the administrator of the Amad News counterrevolutionary website and Telegram channel, has appealed against a death sentence recently issued by the court.

The lawyer of Ruhollah Zam announced on Wednesday that his client has appealed against the death sentence, asking for a review on the court’s verdict.

Zam was sentenced to death in late June after being convicted of Efsad-e Fel-Arz (spreading corruption on earth).

The Judiciary said back then that the verdict was not final and could be appealed.

Amad News was known for disseminating incriminating content against the Islamic Establishment, insulting the sanctities of Iranian Muslims, and publishing fake news in order to drive a wedge between the Iranian people and government.

Iran arrested Zam in 2019 following a complicated intelligence operation by the IRGC’s Intelligence Organization, which involved deceiving intelligence services of some Western countries especially France, under whose guidance and protection Zam was operating.

Man, Wife Sentenced to Death for Disrupting Car Market

TEHRAN (Iran News) – An Iranian financial criminal and his wife have been sentenced to death on a charge of major disruption to the country’s currency and car market as they had purchased more than 6,700 automobiles and hoarded 24,700 gold coins, the Judiciary’s spokesperson said.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Gholam Hossein Esmaeili said the case of Vahid Behzadi and his wife, Najva Lasheidaee, includes a mixture of crimes, such as disruption to the country’s currency market and car market.

The two have been sentenced on charges of major disruption to the country’s monetary and currency system, currency smuggling through dummy purchase orders, disrupting the system of distribution of commodities by purchasing more than 6,700 cars in advance from Iranian carmaker Saipa, and money-laundering involving a sum of 32 trillion rials, Esmaeili added.

The Judiciary spokesman noted that 24,700 gold coins and 100 kilograms of gold have been confiscated from the convicted woman’s dwelling.

He also noted that former CEO of Saipa car factory, Mahdi Jamali, has been sentenced to 7 years in prison for involvement in disruption to distribution mechanisms, while the former deputy head of the carmaker’s marketing department has been sentenced to 15 years.

Moreover, two parliamentarians, Mohammad Azizi and Fereidoon Ahmadi, have been sentenced to 61 months in prison each, he noted.

Since August 2018, Iran’s Judiciary has been holding public trials of individuals involved in major economic corruption cases.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has permitted the Judiciary to take special measures in order to confront economic corruption and called for “swift and just” legal action against financial crimes.

Earlier, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution has described “outright and unequivocal” treatment of economic corruption as one of the Judiciary’s major duties, stressing that confronting economic corrupts must be decisive and effective.
