Palestinians cut ties with Israel, US

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas announced Saturday a cut of all ties with Israel and the US, including security cooperation, days after Washington unveiled a controversial Middle East ‘peace plan’.

Abbas spoke at an Arab League meeting in Cairo, called after US President Donald Trump presented the scheme which staunchly favors Israel, but offers Palestinians a pathway to a limited state.

The summit of Arab foreign ministers in Egypt’s capital was requested by the Palestinians, who responded angrily to the American proposal.

“We are informing you that there will be no relations with you (Israel) and the United States, including on security cooperation,” Abbas said.

He added that the US plan was in “violation of the (autonomy) accords” launched in Oslo in 1993 by Israel and the Palestinians.

The Palestinian leader said the decision follows the US and Israel’s “disavowal of signed agreements and international legitimacy”.

Israel will have to “bear responsibility as an occupying power” for the Palestinian territories, Abbas said, adding that Palestinians will press ahead with their legitimate struggle using peaceful means.

Under the plan, Israel would retain control of Al-Quds as its “undivided capital” and annex settlements on Palestinian lands.

Trump said Palestinians would be allowed to declare a capital within annexed east Al-Quds.

Palestinian leaders have rejected the deal, saying it deserved to go in the “dustbin of history”.

Abbas said he refused Trump’s phone calls and messages “because I know that he would use that to say he consulted us.”

“I will never accept this solution,” Abbas said. “I will not have it recorded in my history that I have sold Al-Quds.”

He said the Palestinians remain committed to ending the Israeli occupation and establishing a state with its capital in east Al-Quds.

Abbas received a long applause from the Arab foreign ministers in attendance after his speech.

Abbas said the Palestinians would not accept the US as a sole mediator in any negotiations with Israel. He said they would go to the United Nations Security Council and other world and regional organizations to “explain our position.”

The Arab League’s head, Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, said the proposal revealed a “sharp turn” in the long-standing US foreign policy regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“This turn does not help achieve peace and a just solution,” he declared.

Ambassadors from the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Oman attended the Tuesday unveiling in Washington, in a tacit sign of support for the US initiative.

Saudi Arabia and Egypt, Arab states that are close US allies, said they appreciated Trump’s efforts and called for renewed negotiations without commenting on the plan’s content.

Egypt in a statement urged Israelis and Palestinians to “carefully study” the plan. It said it favors a solution that restores all the “legitimate rights” of the Palestinian people through establishing an “independent and sovereign state on the occupied Palestinian territories.”

The Egyptian statement did not mention the long-held Arab demand of east Al-Quds as a capital to the future Palestinian state, as Cairo usually has its statements related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Jordan, meanwhile, warned against any Israeli “annexation of Palestinian lands” and reaffirmed its commitment to the creation of a Palestinian state along the 1967 lines, which would include all the West Bank and Israeli-annexed east Al-Quds.

Jordan and Egypt are the only two Arab countries that have peace treaties with Israel.

Iranians Pour Mark Int’l Quds Day, Blast “Deal of Centurty”

Muslim people in other countries in the world also mark the day by holding massive rallies and demonstrations, condemning Israel’s violation of the Palestinian nation’s rights.

Meanwhile President Hassan Rouhani voiced his support to the oppressed people of Palestine while taking part at massive rallies held in Tehran to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the International Quds Day.

President Rouhani joined public rallies held in Tehran on the last Friday of Ramadan month and accompanied the people of Tehran in displaying support for the oppressed people of Palestine to the world.

Speaking to reporters at the rallies in downtown Tehran, President Rouhani referred to the latest US proposed plan on Israel-Palestine conflict, known as the so-called ‘Deal of the Century’, saying that the plan will undoubtedly fail and will yield no results.

The Iranian president added that final victory will be for the Palestinians and Palestine will become the homeland of all the Palestinians including the Muslims, Jews and the Christian Palestinians to coexist peacefully.

Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani also said that the proposed ‘Deal of the Century’ has roots in the American utilitarianism philosophy, which disregards justice, dignity, and humanist aspects of the Palestinian issue in favor of economic gains.

Larijani made the remarks before the Friday Prayers sermon in Tehran began yesterday, which was the last Friday of holy month of Ramadan marking the 40th anniversary of International Quds Day. The day has been commemorated with huge rallies across Iran and the globe.

“Americans believe in utilitarianism according to which justice, honor, and humanity count as long as they have benefits,” Larijani said.

The parliament speaker also said that for the American statesmen, international obligations do not count much and they violate their international commitments when they do not see any benefits in abiding by them.

He referred to the US withdrawal from several international agreements such as the Paris climate change agreement, the nuclear deal with Iran and the missile treaty with Russia as some irrational decisions made by the American authorities based on their belief in utilitarianism.

He further noted that proposing the ‘Deal of the Century’ has roots in U.S. utilitarianism philosophy. Meanwhile, he stressed that their plan for Palestine shows the depth of their unlimited hatred towards the Muslims.

Larijani further quoted the Iranian Leader Ayatollah Khamenei as saying that US utilitarianism is in decline as it creates ‘international anomalies.’ He added the creation of the ISIL terrorist group had roots in the US utilitarianism with the aim of destroying the Islamic nations.

The speaker further called on the Islamic countries to come together and build a stronger strategy against the U.S. strategy for the region.

He also lambasted some Arab countries particularly Saudi Arabia’s cooperation with Americans’ plots and their huge purchase of the U.S. arms.

He went on to note the U.S. officials’ talk of readiness for negotiations with Iran, quoting the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei’s remarks that Americans cannot be trusted and ruled out any possibility of negotiations on defensive power.

At the end, Larijani said that Iran needs to get stronger and its resistance against the US pressures should continue as the only solution.

Marchers at the end of International Quds Day rallies in Iran issued a final statement condemning the upcoming Bahraini-hosted meeting to discuss U.S. and Israeli peace plan for Palestine or the so-called ‘Deal of the Century’.

A statement was read out in Tehran at the end of the nationwide rallies condemning the U.S. administration’s new conspiracy in the form of the so-called ‘Deal of the Century’.

The marchers in their statement also strongly condemned the attempts by some Arab rulers to normalize relations with ‘’fake occupying regime of Israel’ and the upcoming Manama meeting to discuss the economic aspects of the ‘Deal of the Century’.

The final declaration also considered the continuation of Intifada and resistance against the ‘global disbelievers front’ led by the United States as the only solution to the Palestinian issue and rejected any compromise with the ‘cancerous Israel.’

It further called for the realization of ‘Palestine for all Palestinian people’ and stressed that the future Palestine must include the entire Palestinian lands between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea.

At the end, the statement called for ‘maintaining national unity’ and realizing the slogan of this Iranian year set by the Leader of the Islamic Republic as ‘Boosting Domestic Production.’
