Hadi Hejazifar, another leading actor from the movie, and Hatamikia will also accompany Salameh during the screenings, which have been arranged at Kurosh Cineplex for tomorrow.

He was introduced to Iranians in a trailer of the movie, in which he, as the Georgian Chechen commander of Daesh, utters the sentence, “chituri Irani” (“how are the Iranians”) in Persian with an Arabic accent.

“Damascus Time” is about an Iranian pilot and his son as copilot who are seized by the Daesh forces in Syria when are in the country to deliver a cargo of humanitarian relief supplies to people in a war-torn region.

In an interview published by the Persian service of FNA earlier in April, Salameh, 33, said that he did extensive research on Al-Shishani to collect information to help him make the character credible.

Hejazifar and Babak Hamidian are the sole Iranian actors of the cast, which is composed of a number of Syrian, Lebanese and Iraqi actors.

The movie, which was shot on location in Iran and Syria, was made at the Owj Arts and Media Organization, a Tehran-based institution producing revolutionary works in art and cinema.

“The Lost Strait” by Bahram Tavakkoli was made based on a true story, which recounts an epic battle by Iran’s Ammar Battalion during the last days of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war.

Ebrahim Hatamikia’s Daesh drama “Damascus Time” tells the story of an Iranian pilot and his son as copilot who are seized by the Daesh forces in Syria when they are in the country to deliver a cargo of humanitarian relief supplies to people in a war-torn region.

Both movies were acclaimed last week at the 36th Fajr Film Festival, Iran’s major cinema event.

Hatamikia and Tavakkoli shared the award for best director at the festival.

In addition, “The Lost Strait” received awards in six other categories including best film. It also earned the awards for best makeup artist, best sound engineer and best practical special effects supervisor.

The film also won the best composer award and the award for best sound effects engineer.

“Today, I with my wife and a number of the deputies at the Foreign Ministry, were hosted by Mr. Ebrahim Hatamikia at Owj Arts and Media Organization, to watch the new masterpiece of this great artist,” Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif wrote Thursday on his Instagram, describing the movie as an “unparalleled masterpiece”.

Damascus Time, shot in Iran and Syria, is directed by Ebrahim Hatamikia and stars Hadi Hejazifar, Babak Hamidian and a number of Syrian and Iraqi actors.

It tells the story of an Iranian pilot and his son as copilot who are seized by the Daesh forces in Syria when are in the country to deliver a cargo of humanitarian relief supplies to people in a war-torn region.

Impressed by the movie, Zarif’s eyes welled with tears while describing it as a best manifestation of the bravery of the heroes who fought and lost their lives for us.

He said he remembers all the scenes in the film will keep them in his mind forever. “No one is able to forget any scene of this movie; those who think our region is in great trouble and catastrophe know that many heroes have fought against terrorists to prevent them from penetrating to other parts of the world, so moment by moment of this film reminds us of a unique endeavor on behalf of men and women who gave us everything.”
