3 foreign teams to vie at 2nd Persian Beach Soccer Cup

TEHRAN – Spain, Ukraine and Azerbaijan will participate in the Second Persian Beach Soccer Cup which is scheduled to be held at the end of January in Iran.

The Second Persian Beach Soccer Cup is slated for January 27-29, 2018 in Bushehr province, Iran.

Spain, Ukraine and Azerbaijan national teams along with Iran’s national team will compete against one another in this sporting event.

The First Persian Beach Soccer Cup was held in February 14th to 16TH, 2017 in Bushehr. Teams from Italy, Ukraine and Poland participated in the competitions with Iran’s national team winning the championship.

Russia invites Iranian wrestlers to Ivan Poddubny Cup

TEHRAN – The Russian Wrestling Federation, in an official letter, has invited Iran’s national Greco-Roman squad to take part at an international tournament dubbed ‘Ivan Poddubny’.

The sportive event, which marks the most reputable annual Greco-Roman wrestling tournament in Russia, will kick off on January 18 in Krasnodar and will conclude three days afterwards on January 21, 2018.

The international tournament is held annually in honor of Ivan Maximovich Poddubny, a professional wrestler from the Russian Empire and later the Soviet Union. Called the ‘Champion of Champions’, wrestler Ivan Poddubny first won the title of World Champion in French Wrestling (now called Greco-Roman) in 1905 at the age of 34 and held onto it for more than three decades. He only left the wrestling mat when he was in his 80s. Although he lost occasional matches, he never lost one tournament.

Also in January, Iranian city of Mahshahr will play host to Takhti Cup. Accordingly, The International Senior Free style, Greco-Roman and Pahlavani wrestling Tournament (Takhti Cup) will be held on January 25-26 in Bandar-e Mahshahr in Khuzestan Province.

The tournament is an important annual wrestling event in Iran, held in the memory of the late legendry Iranian wrestler Gholamreza Takhti.

Takhti, the most famous wrestler in the Iranian history, claimed the gold medal in Melbourne 1956 Olympic Games and won two silver medals in 1952 Helsinki and 1960 Rome Olympic Games. He passed away on January 7, 1968.

Tehran to Host Freestyle World Wrestling Clubs Cup

TEHRAN – Tehran has been chosen as host of fourth edition of the World Wrestling Clubs Cup.

The freestyle competition was originally scheduled to be held in Kashan but Iranian officials changed the venue of the event and it will be held in Tehran on Dec. 7-8.

World Wrestling Clubs Cup is an international wrestling clubs competition among teams representing member nations of the sport’s global governing body.

The tournament was held on the proposal of the Islamic Republic of Iran Wrestling Federation in 2014 in Iran.

Bimeh Razi freestyle team of Iran finished in the first place in the first two editions held in Juybar and Tehran respectively.

Titan Mercury from USA won the title in Kharkov, Ukraine last season.

Hamed Haddadi ready to play for Iran at FIBA World Cup qualifiers

Iran national basketball team captain Hamed Haddadi has announced his readiness to participate in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification.

Haddadi, who currently plays for Sichuan Jinqiang Blue Whales, has called Iran basketball coach Mehran Hatami and said he will join the training camp on Friday.

Iran are in Group D with Iraq, Kazakhstan and Qatar. They play Iraq on Nov. 24 at the Prince Hamza Arena before hosting Qatar at the Azadi Gym on 27 November.

Team Melli have a good mix of youth and veterans on this roster. They have nine players who are 23 years or younger, including rising stars Behnam Yakhchali, Sajjad Masjayekhi and Vahid Dalirzahan.

Seasoned international campaigners like Rouzbeh Arghavan, Oshin Sahakian and Arsalan Kazemi are also among the players in the pool, and they are sure to use their experience in tempering the talents of their younger teammates.

The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification (Asia) process will determine the six teams from FIBA Asia and/or FIBA Oceania that will participate at the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

Iran Downs Mexico at Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup

TEHRAN – Iran earned its second victory in a row in the 2017 Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup on Wednesday.

Iran, who had defeated Paraguay 5-2 in its opening match on Tuesday, overpowered Mexico 4-1 in Group B.

Seyed Ali Nazem, Amirhosein Akbari, Moslem Mesigar and Ali Mirshekari kept Marco Octavio’s men on course for their first Dubai title since 2013.

Russia also edged past Paraguay 2-1 in the group.

Iran will play Russia on Thursday for top spot in the group.

Group A consists of Brazil, the UAE, Portugal and Egypt.

The 2017 Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup is an annual international beach soccer tournament contested by men’s national teams, held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

Iran Ready to Earn Second Gold at Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup

TEHRAN – Under tutelage of Brazilian coach Marco Octavio, Iran won its first ever title at the Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup in 2013 and now is ready to repeat the honor.

Team Melli has been pitted against two-time champion Russia, Mexico and Paraguay in Group B.

Iran will kick off the prestigious event with a match against Paraguay on Tuesday at the Marasi Business Bay in Dubai.

Group A consists of Three-time champion Brazil, host UAE, Egypt and Portugal.

Brazil is the competition’s favorite after it won title at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in May.

Brazil coach Gilberto Costa maintains his side’s incredible winning run, which stretches back over 40 matches, does not add any extra pressure as they prepare to defend their title at the Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup Dubai.

The 2017 Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup is an annual international beach soccer tournament contested by men’s national teams, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

After the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, the Intercontinental Cup is the biggest tournament in the current international beach soccer calendar. Similar to the FIFA Confederations Cup, eight nations will take part, with one team representing each of the six continental football confederations (except for the OFC) as well as the current World Cup champion, Brazil, and the host, the United Arab Emirates.

The tournament starts with a group stage, played in a round robin format. The winners and runners-up from each group advance to the knockout stage, in which the teams then compete in single-elimination matches, beginning with the semi-final and ending with the final. A third-place deciding match is also contested by the losing semi-finalists.
