TEHRAN (Iran News) – Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari announced on Tuesday that Iranian knowledge-based firms have started manufacturing coronavirus test kits and they have received approval from eight countries to export their products.

Making the remarks in the southern province of Bushehr, Sattari said: “Iran presently has a production capacity of manufacturing 1 million of serology test kits per day and monthly production of 1.5 million of C-Creative Protein (CPR) test kits.”

“Of the said amount a part is domestically used and the rest is exported,” he added.

Iran exports corona diagnostic kits at the condition that the country heavily needed to these kits at the beginning of the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country but with the cooperation of knowledge-based companies, not only Iran’s requirement to these kits have been met, but also suitable ways have been provided for the country in export of these kits.

On May 12, domestically produced nano-test kit for coronavirus was unveiled for the first time in the world in the presence of VP Sattari.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has currently started exporting ordinary coronavirus diagnostic kits to a number of countries including Germany and Turkey.

In line with its humanitarian aids, the Islamic Republic of Iran also donated cargo containing 5,000 corona diagnostic kits to Afghanistan and also Lebanon.

A spokesperson for the Coronavirus Combat and Prevention Headquarters Kianoush Jahanpour said on April 12 that the country has developed COVID-19 rapid test kits based on antibody detection, adding that the kits will hit the market soon.

In a tweet Jahanpour wrote, “with the efforts of Iranian experts and knowledge-based companies, a rapid test for the detection of coronavirus based on the identification of antibodies will be available soon. These quick, low-cost, and inclusive detection methods will facilitate the step-by-step implementation of ‘Smart Distancing Plan’ in the coming weeks.”

Iran Ambassador to UK Hamid Baeedinejad in his twitter account on Wednesday wrote, “thanks to its talented scientists and experts, the Islamic Republic of Iran has now been able to introduce itself among the countries that have the technology of ‘coronavirus’ diagnostic kits.”

Yesterday, the Islamic Republic of Iran exported a consignment of 40,000- coronavirus diagnostic kits to Germany which is enough to test four million people, Baeedinejad emphasized.

In line with its humanitarian aids, the Islamic Republic of Iran also donated cargo containing 5,000 corona diagnostic kits to Afghanistan and also Lebanon.

Iran exports corona diagnostic kits at the condition that the country heavily needed to these kits at the beginning of the outbreak of COVID-19 in the country but with the cooperation of knowledge-based companies, not only Iran’s requirement to these kits have been met, but also suitable ways have been provided for the country in export of these kits, he stressed.

High capabilities and potentials of domestic knowledge-based firms indicate that Iran can have a strong presence in international markets with the adoption of an accurate supportive approach in line with realizing objectives of the motto of the current year entitled ‘surge in production’, Iran’s Ambassador to UK Baeedinejad underscored.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – A manager of a knowledge-based company in Iran said their domestically-developed coronavirus diagnostic test kit is ready to be put to the market, adding that the firm is fairly capable of producing 80,000 kits on a weekly basis.

Vahid Younesi, the business development manager at Pishtaz Teb Zaman Diagnostics, said the research and development team at his company began its work on the production of indigenous laboratory test kits for the new coronavirus, after the first cases were confirmed in Iran last month and upon a call for cooperation by the country’s Vice-Presidency for Science and Technology.

“Researchers and specialists at the firm are working round-the-clock and strenuously on the matter and have utilized the instructions plus world experience, especially by the two pioneer counties of the US and China in the manufacture of coronavirus diagnostic test kits,” he pointed out.

Younesi added that Pishtaz Teb Zaman Diagnostics can supply recommended labs with 80,000 kits every week, and has expressed its readiness to deliver 400,000 kits within the next Persian calendar month (April 20 – May 20).

“COVID-19 will be correctly diagnosed in suspected patients with the product. These kits will seek out (the virus’) viral genomes, and the result will be out once the diagnosis process is completed,” he said, according to Press TV.

Younesi highlighted that his knowledge-based company has already mass-produced the coronavirus diagnostic test kits, and is awaiting proper permits for distribution among laboratories approved by the Iranian health ministry.

The Iranian coronavirus test kit “is exactly on par with the foreign-made ones as regards precision, functionality and time of diagnosis … It will take two hours for test results to come out,” he said.

Younesi went on to say that his company will start exporting the Iranian coronavirus test kits once domestic needs are met, emphasizing that some 20 countries have placed ordered to purchase the kits.

Iran has confirmed 27,000 cases of coronavirus since the infection was spotted in the country on February 19.

More than 9,000 people have recovered and 2,077 have died of the virus, according to the latest figures provided by the health ministry.

Officials believe cases could surge in the coming weeks if more tests are carried out especially in remote areas where access to health care is low.

However, more testing could also boost efforts to prevent more deaths, especially among the elderly and those suffering from underlying conditions.

Several other biotechnology firms in Iran have developed testing kits for coronavirus amid restrictions on the imports of the diagnostic tools which has come as a result of the American sanctions.

The government has said it would exhaust all its resources to ensure there would be sufficient protective gear and vital equipment to respond to the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

The United States reinstated its sanctions against Iran in 2018 after leaving a United Nations-endorsed nuclear agreement with the Islamic Republic and five other major powers — the UK, France, Russia and China plus Germany.

Washington claims that it has exempted foodstuffs and medicine from the bans, something that Tehran entirely disputes.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – President Hassan Rouhani says the coronavirus testing kits developed by Iranian experts are undergoing final tests and will enter the mass-production stage in the near future.

All the initial tests on the package have proven to be “positive and credible,” Rouhani told a cabinet session in Tehran on Wednesday, saying the coronavirus testing kits would undergo final examination over the next couple of days.

“Shortly, we will be able to make hundreds of thousands and even millions of these kits, and place them at the disposal of all of the country’s hospitals,” he said, noting that the package would enable medics to easily diagnose new cases.

The virus — named COVID-19 — first emerged in China late last year and is now spreading in Europe and across the Middle East, sparking fears of a global pandemic.

The outbreak has killed more than 2,600 people and infected more than 77,000 others in China. But the situation has worsened elsewhere with nearly 2,700 other cases and more than 40 deaths globally.

In Iran, the virus showed up in the north-central city of Qom, a destination for Muslim pilgrims from across the world. In all, the spread has taken 19 lives across the country and infected as many as 139 others, most of them in Qom, according to the figures released on Wednesday by Kianoush Jahanpour, the head of public relations and information center of the Iranian Ministry of Health.

The president warned against either “understatement or overstatement” of the extent of the problem inside the country and ruled out the possibility of any lockdowns.

“There will be no lockdowns of neighborhoods or cities. Only individual people showing the initial symptoms of the virus would be quarantined,” he said.

Rouhani referred to the National Taskforce for Fighting Coronavirus, which has been formed on his orders, as the only reliable entity for preventative directives and statistics.

A bigger threat than coronavirus

The president said what demands even more attention than coronavirus itself was “the virus of fear, anxiety, ambivalence, and distrust among the people,” which has to be tackled properly as it could lead to other problems if not contained.

Rouhani pointed to stepped-up US attempts, over the past two years, to bring to a standstill economic activities and productivity inside Iran, cautioning that “the coronavirus should not turn into a weapon in the hands of the enemies” to achieve that objective.

As a case in point, he referred to remarks made on Tuesday by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who accused Beijing and Tehran of censoring information about the outbreak and putting the rest of the world at greater risk.

“They themselves are afflicted with the coronavirus over there. They themselves lost 16,000 people to the flu, but do not make any references to it,” Rouhani said.

The president, meanwhile, praised the efforts made across the country over the past couple of weeks in terms of quarantining and treating patients, preventing the outbreak’s further spread, as well as attempts by security forces to confront those seeking to hoard supplies.

Overcoming the virus may take a few weeks, he noted, adding that the outbreak could not possibly be more dangerous than the flu, which the country had already tackled.

The president noted that there has been a decline in the number of people seeking medical help, and there has been progressing in the treatment approaches that are being used.
