TEHRAN (Iran News) –Former Head of Iran’s Water and Power Resources Development Company Mohammadreza Rezazadeh has said the country is currently over 95 percent self-sufficient in dam construction.

“We are now more than 95 percent self-sufficient in the design and construction of dams in Iran, and we only import some parts and equipment for hydropower plants,” Rezazadeh told IRIB on Saturday.

According to the official, dam construction is as important as other strategic knowledges like nuclear energy, nano, stem cells and military equipment.

Mentioning the country’s current water shortage problems, Rezazadeh said: “In the country’s water sector, it is necessary to move towards the use of a diverse resources basket, such as the use of sewage, desalination of seawater, use of deep water, etc.”

“For example, the Persian Gulf coastal countries currently desalinize and use about 27 million cubic meters of seawater on a daily basis and have a plan to increase the figure up to 32 million cubic meters, but our country, having vast beaches in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, only desalinizes about 600,000 cubic meters of water,” he said.

Regarding the reason for the ending of dam construction in advanced countries and its continuation in Iran, he said: “They started building dams 70-80 years earlier than us and built dams in all suitable geographical positions, but despite the great number of dams in our country, we still need to build dams in some regions.”

“From 1900 to 1909, 545 dams were inaugurated in the world, and the figure reached 7,511 in the 70s,” he added.

About 32 percent of the world’s dams are located in North America, 30 percent in Asia, 19 percent in Europe, five percent in Africa, three percent in South America, and two percent in Australia, according to the official.

Iran’s total dam reservoirs currently stand at 50.5 billion cubic meters, according to the Energy Ministry data.

Out of a total of 183 currently operational dams across Iran, 52 are related to the Caspian Sea catchment area, 12 are based in the Urmia basin, 68 dams are located in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman watersheds, 34 dams are in the Central Plateau, 11 dams are in Sarakhs catchment basin, and another six dams are located across the eastern boundary basin (Hamoun).

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s minister of industry, mine and trade said the country earned nearly $7 billion from exports of various materials used in construction activities in the year ending March 19, 2020, adding that steel and cement contributed to the largest share of revenues gained from shipments.

Ja’far Serqini said on Thursday that Iran’s production of construction materials is nearly double the domestic demand, adding that producers keep tapping into various markets inside and outside the region to find customers for their high-quality products, Press TV reported.

“Today, our country is a major exporter of steel in the region and a leading exporter of cement in the world,” said Serqini, adding that Iran has increased its supply of glass, tile and ceramics to foreign customers in recent years.

The minister said that construction materials accounted for 70 percent of total exports of $10 billion from Iran’s mining industry over the past year.

Iran’s massive mining and metals sector has expanded in recent years, mainly because sanctions imposed by the US on the country’s direct sale of crude have led to more activity across the sector.

The government has also raised tariffs on exports of raw minerals as it seeks increased local production for finished products.

That comes despite a decision by Washington in May 2019 to introduce a series of comprehensive bans on Iran’s trade of metals.

However, the bans have largely failed to disrupt the export of products like steel and copper, as customers find them increasingly competitive compared to regional and international rivals.

Seyed Hassan Mirshafi’ said this freeway with the length of 700 kilometers will connect Natanz in the central province of Isfahan to Bandar-Abbas in the southern province of Hormozgan, Tasnim news agency reported.
The first part of the freeway with the length of 60 kilometers from Sirjan in the south-central province of Kerman to Bandar-Abbas is currently under construction with 2 trillion rials (about $47.4 million) of investment made by the private sector, the director added.
Constructing each part of the freeway will cost 880 billion rials (about $20.8 million), he said and added that some governmental budget has been also allocated to this project.
About 920 kilometers of freeways are projected to be constructed throughout Iran by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2019), Mehr news agency reported in early May quoting Deputy Transport Minister Kheirollah Khademi as saying.
The official, who is also the managing director of CDTIC, also announced that about 820 kilometers of freeways were constructed in Iran during the past Iranian calendar year.

On November 12, 2017 a destructive magnitude 7.3 earthquake hit Kermanshah. Some 90,000 houses were partly or completely damaged by the tremor in urban and rural areas of the region. Sadly, the quake took over 660 lives and left more than 10,000 injured. Those quake victims who have lost their homes spent a bitter winter in tents and conex boxes.

Since reconstruction in urban areas is more time consuming, it is projected that the whole project will finish by the middle of [Iranian calendar] year 1398 (March 2019 – March 2020), IRNA quoted him as saying on Saturday.

He also hoped that the reconstruction process in rural areas, which include some 25,000 houses, would end by the Iranian calendar month of Shahrivar (September 22, 2018).

Deputy Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH) for Planning Affairs Hamid-Reza Azimi made the above remark and added: “According to the Clause 6 of national plan on the resistance economy, the company was obliged to initiate construction operation of more than 2,000MW public and private power plants, so that construction operation of more than 2,000 megawatt power plant has started.”

In this regard, ground was broken for the construction operation of Ofogh Combined Cycle Power Plant of Zahedan, he said, adding, “As privately-funded power plant, construction operation of two 25MW power plants has started in Mazandaran, the duo of which were put into operation.”

In addition, construction operation of Zarand Combined Cycle Power Plant of Kerman has also started, he maintained.

Moreover, construction operation of Dezful Combined Cycle Power Plant was launched by the private sector in the Iranian month of Mehr (Oct. 22).

For his part, Houshang Falahatian Deputy Energy Minister in Electricity and Energy Affairs had earlier announced that 3,500 new power plant is under construction which will be put into operation before the second quarter of the next Iranian calendar year in 2018.

According to the planning made in this regard, the country will witness a considerable five percent increase in power consumption in the second three months of the next Iranian year as compared to the same period of last year.

For this purpose, effective steps have been taken in order to meet the growing demand of power consumption rate.

A number of 54 new power plants have been put into operation since the outset of 11th government dubbed “Hope and Prudence” up to the present time, Falahatian said, adding “accordingly, power plants’ capacity of the country has hit 77,000 megawatt, showing a considerable 8,000MW hike.”

A project to support the construction of guest houses and the development of rural and ecotourism gets started in Tashkent and Surkhandarya regions.

Given the growing interest in rural and ecotourism and for the development of new tourist routes, the Association of Private Tourist Agencies has launched a project supported by the European Union ‘Strengthening rural and ecotourism through business associations for sustainable economic development in Central Asia.’ The initiative will be implemented within the 4th phase of the program of the European Union ‘Central Asia Invest: Improving the Competitiveness of Small Businesses.’ It is implemented by the European Center for Eco and Agro Tourism ECEAT (Netherlands), the Association of Private Tourist Agencies of Uzbekistan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

“Our project is primarily focused on regions with great potential from the point of view of tourism development,” the executive director of the Association of Private Tourist Agencies of Uzbekistan, project manager Gulchekhra Isroilova commented. “We see the creation of guest houses as an effective solution of the assigned tasks. And our task is to provide consulting assistance to the population of Tashkent and Surkhandarya regions in this direction.”

Rural tourism is considered as the services provided by rural families on an individual basis. Tourist services are sold directly to tourists or through tour operators and can include ‘bed and breakfast’, excursions, local attractions. In general, these services are an additional source of income for the rural population, based on relatively low investment.

A survey among travel companies – members of the Association of Private Tourist Agencies made it possible to select travel companies interested in participating in this project and developing rural and ecotourism in Uzbekistan, and a working group of representatives of travel companies got formed.

The participants of the working group will participate in the identification of potential regions for the development of this area of tourism, the development of new tourist routes, in assessing the readiness of guest houses, and in upgrading their skills.

Based on the results of Gulchekhra Isroilova’s working trip to Surkhandarya region, a decision was made to implement the project in Boysun district as the most attractive for the creation and development of guest houses.

During the visit, working meetings were held with the owners of the Parvin and Salom Hofiz guest houses and representatives of the local small private business, who plan to implement projects for the construction of guest houses and yurt camps. Representatives of the local businesses expressed their willingness to participate in this project.

In general, the implementation of the project started. It is expected that as a result of its implementation guest houses will appear in the mountains with a high level of service. In turn, this will help create new tourist routes and popularize rural and ecological tourism in the country.

Continuing with his visits of under-the-construction projects of navy factories and achievements in Bandar Abbas naval base on the Persian Gulf, Rear Admiral Sayyari inspected the construction process of the semi-heavy Fateh-class submarines and held talks with the staff in charge of maintenance and construction of surface and under-surface vessels. During the visits, Sayyari stressed the need for expediting the construction process of Fateh submarines.

Fateh (‘Conqueror’) is a domestically-manufactured submarine measuring between forty and forty-eight meters long with four bow torpedo tubes and access to six to eight reloads, with a circular sonar array situated under the tubes. Fateh is said to be able to operate up to two hundred meters below the surface and up to five weeks at sea at a range of up to 3,100 miles.

On August 29, Iranian Deputy Defense Minister for Parliamentarian Affairs, Reza Talaei Neek, said Fateh submarine would be soon deployed to Iran’s Navy.
