Iranian foundation to hold End of Daesh Art Competition

The contest will be held in the categories of cartoon, caricature and poster, the secretary of the contest, Masud Shojaei-Tabatabai, said in a press conference at the foundation on Wednesday.

Major General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran’s Quds Force, declared the end of Daesh (ISIS) last week.

The liberation of Mosul in Iraq and Aleppo in Syria are the main themes of the cartoon category.

In the caricature category, artists should focus on figures such as U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Shojaei-Tabatabai said.

Beside Tehran galleries, walls across the city will be adorned with huge copies of the award-winning works at the competition, he noted.

The applicants can submit their works to the secretariat of the contest before January 5, 2018.

Artists Silvano Melo from Brazil and Alexander Faldin from Russia along with Mohammad-Hossein Nirumand, Masud Nejabati and Mohammadreza Doostmohammadi from Iran will select entries to the contest.

TISFF unveils Iranian lineup for intl. competition

TEHRAN – The 34th Tehran International Short Film Festival (TISFF) announced on Wednesday that seven films by Iranian filmmakers will be screened in its official competition section.

“Ara” by Yusef Kargar, “Marzieh” by Dornaz Hajiha, “Maned and Macho” by Shiva Sadeq-Asadi and “Animal”, co-directed by Bahram and Bahman Ark, are among the films.

Also included are “Cleaner” by Mohammadreza Miqani, “Icky” by Parastu Kardgar and “Whole to Part” by Vahid Hosseini-Nami.

In addition, twenty-nine movies by filmmakers from 21 countries will be competing in this section.

The 34th Tehran International Short Film Festival will be running from October 17 to 22.

Closing Ceremony of Mustafa Prize’s Noor Competition Held in Tehran

TEHRAN – The closing ceremony of the second round of Mustafa Prize’s Noor Competition for students was held in Tehran.

During the ceremony on Friday, the winners of the international contest were honored and awarded, according to a report by the official website of the competition.

Organized by officials of the Mustafa Prize, it was attended by Iran’s Vice-President for Science and Technology Affairs Sorena Sattari and other officials.

Over 5000 students had participated in the event, presenting about 2000 short films with various scientific themes, including physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and astronomy.

The Mustafa Prize is a science and technology award granted to top researchers and scientists from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states biennially.

The award is meant to encourage education and research in Islamic nations and forge cooperation among science and technology institutions of OIC member countries. The forum has been held with an aim to enhance the links among academics and researchers in scientific realms and facilitate the growth of science in OIC member states.

Jackie Ying, a nanotechnologist from Singapore, was also honored at the closing ceremony.

The Mustafa Prize is awarded in the four categories of “Life Science and Medical Sciences,” “Nano Science and Nanotechnologies,” “The Information and Communication Science and Technologies,” and “Top Scientific Achievement in other fields.”

The Mustafa Prize was launched in 2013, with high-profile universities and academic centers of the OIC member states defining its policies.
