TEHRAN (Iran News) Colombian President Gustavo Petro has commanded the interception of any vessel transporting coal to Israel.

Any ship delivering coal shipments to Israel must be intercepted, according to an order from the Colombian President on Friday, who asserts that his nation will not contribute to the genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Wafa news agency quoted President Petro as saying that he has issued an order to intercept any ship carrying coal to Israel, following the departure of a coal-loaded ship on Thursday from Ciénaga bound for Israel.

He termed the shipment as a direct challenge to his government after Colombia banned coal exports to Israel last August in protest against Israeli crimes in the Gaza Strip.

TEHRAN (Iran News) According to the Spanish media Agencia EFE report on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia in a statement announced that it complies with the verdict of the ICC against Netanyahu and Gallant, who are accused of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. “Colombia ”

It also emphasized the commitment to peace inside and outside its borders and reiterated Colombia’s position against the Israeli regime’s genocidal action and what is happening to the Palestinian people.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro also welcomed Netanyahu’s arrest warrant last Thursday and assured that the ICC verdict must be respected.

He described the arrest warrant for Netanyahu and Gallant as a logical and necessary measure, saying that Benjamin Netanyahu has committed genocide and the ICC has confirmed it, and this verdict should be respected.

Meanwhile, thousands of Tunisians held demonstrations in the country’s capital to express their satisfaction over the arrest warrant for the Israeli prime minister and former war minister by the ICC.

In the meantime, Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris has said that his country would comply with a warrant issued by the ICC to arrest Netanyahu if he arrived in Ireland for whatever reason. “Yes absolutely. We support international courts and we apply their warrants,” Harris said on Friday a day after the ICC issued its arrest warrant for Netanyahu for crimes he has committed during the war in Gaza.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The El Faro International Publishing House in the Colombian capital of Bogota has announced its plan to publish a book on the Arbaeen gathering.

“Arbaeen, the Heaven on Earth” will be published this year on Arbaeen, which will fall on September 27, El Faro director Angelica Maria Rojas said in a press release published by Persian news media on Monday.

Arbaeen marks the end of the 40-day mourning period following the martyrdom of the Imam and his loyal companions on Ashura.

Over the past decade, Iran has initiated the Arbaeen gathering, which is held by Shia Muslims in Iraq every year.

Hundreds of thousands of Iranians and Shia Muslims from other countries embark on a journey to the Iraqi city of Karbala to observe the day of Arbaeen at the holy shrines of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Imam of the Shia, and his brother, Hazrat Abbas (AS).

“This pictorial book, which also contains passionate writings in Spanish, aims to introduce this great gathering in Colombia and it will be unveiled in a special session,” Maria Rojas said, however, she didn’t mention any names for the writers or compilers.

“Photos by 21 Iranian and Pakistani photographers make the book an honorable and everlasting work,” she added.

“The book illustrates the Arbaeen gathering for non-Muslims and those who have recently converted to Islam step by step from the beginning in Najaf to Karbala so that it would produce a pretty good image of the gathering for the readers,” she stated.

She said that this is the first time a book on the Arbaeen gathering is being published in Latin America and added, “The book will first be distributed in Colombia and Mexico, and we have plans to publish it in Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina in upcoming months.”

She also said that the book will be published in French and Portuguese in the near future.

The book carries photos by the Iranian photographers Iman Jannaati, Ahmad Hassani, Ahmad Zohrabi, Amir Hesaminejad, Hamid Abedi, Mohammad Akhlaqi, Zoheir Seidanlu, Faezeh Bakhtiari, Mohsen Karamali, Mohammad-Javad Hashemi, Mohammad-Ali Marizad, Mohammad-Javad Mashhadi, Atieh Keshtkaran, Morteza Jaberian, Mohammad-Ali Jafari Nodusahn, Reza Ramezani, Mehdi Bakhshi, Mohammad-Hassan Salavati, Mohammad-Sadeq Abedi and Mehdi Jafari.

Photos by Pakistani photographer Tahazzob al-Hassan Mohammad have also been published in the book.

The El Faro International Publishing House has previously published numerous books by Iranian writers.

Ebrahim Hassanbeigi’s novel “Muhammad” about the Prophet of Islam (S) is one of them, which has been translated into Spanish by Maria Rojas. The book was published in Ecuador in 2020.

Mohammad-Ali Jaberi’s book “Uncle Qassem” (“L’Oncle Qassem”), which reflects Lieutenant-General Qassem Soleimani’s regard for children, was also published in French by the publisher earlier this year.

A Spanish translation of the book entitled “Mi Tío Soleimani” had been published by the publication house in Venezuela in January 2021.

The book was introduced in the capital, Caracas, during a ceremony attended by Mayor Erika Farias Pena, the head of the Capital District Government, Jacqueline Faria and Iranian Ambassador Hojjatollah Ansari.

“As of the Friday morning, a total of 209 police officers have been injured as a result of vandal attacks since April 28, including 71 in Bogota and 68 in Cali,” police said on late Friday, Sputnik reported.

Within the same period of time, 185 people have been detained over acts of vandalism and other crimes. The list of the detainees includes eight foreign citizens and 16 minors.

The authorities have authorized rewards of up to $5,357 for those who help identify people involved in acts of vandalism.

Social media users shared videos of clashes between protesters and police that allegedly occurred on Friday, as well as extremely graphic videos of victims and the injured as a result of the violence on the streets.

Later on Friday, Colombian President Ivan Duque said that the tax reform plans would be revised over the protests.

“I have made a clear task to the Finance Ministry’s team to develop a new text [of the legislation] as part of the legislation process together with the Congress. [The new text of the law] should receive a [public] consensus and may include useful initiatives proposed by parties and organizations,” the president said.

Nationwide protests and strikes erupted in Colombia on Wednesday against the Sustainable Solidarity Law, a tax reform bill presented earlier this month. Trade unions claim that the proposed reform will lead to at least 1.5 million workers having to pay new taxes.

Colombia’s former president Alvaro Uribe Velez issued a statement on Twitter in which he spoke in support of the law and offered his condolences to the injured police officers.

Duque has previously said that the initiative, which is expected to help raise around $6.8 billion, will significantly contribute to efforts aimed at alleviating the negative economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

Maduro Says US, Colombia Preparing Provocation

According To Iran News, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said he had information that Colombia and the United States were planning a provocation on the Bolivarian Republic’s western border and called on all staff of the country’s armed forces to be prepared for battle.

“I have information that Colombia, together with the US Southern Command are planning to launch another provocation at the Venezuelan border with Colombia. All staff of Venezuela’s armed forces must be combat ready”, Maduro said on Friday during his meeting with the country’s transportation employees broadcast via Twitter, Sputnik reported.

The president added that the provocations served to incite a military conflict on the Venezuela-Colombia border in order to draw attention away from the protests taking place in Colombia.

Back in September, Maduro announced large-scale military exercises on the country’s western border with Colombia, saying its neighbor presented a level orange security threat.

The two neighboring nations regularly accuse each other of supporting anti-government forces.

The political crisis in Venezuela intensified earlier in January when merely two weeks after Maduro’s inauguration for his second term, opposition lawmaker Juan Guaido illegally proclaimed himself “interim president” and called on citizens to help him take power in the country.

Guaido immediately received support from the United States and some Latin American countries, including Colombia, while Maduro accused him of trying to stage a coup in Venezuela with the help of the US.

He also accused Bogota of being behind the plot to overthrow and assassinate him.

While Guaido was endorsed as “president” by the US and Colombia, a number of countries, including Russia and China, have said they only recognize Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela.

Colombia’s right-wing President-elect Ivan Duque announced a controversial appointment as defense minister on Tuesday, choosing a vocal critic of the 2016 peace agreement with FARC rebels.

The 70-year-old entrepreneur Guillermo Botero, a lawyer by profession, has no experience in security matters.

“We’re going to have a new defense minister, a defense minister with great management experience,” said Duque, who is due to take over on August 7 from Juan Manuel Santos, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for negotiating the deal with FARC.

Duque has vowed to be tough on crime but has caused tensions with the former FARC guerrillas, who were transformed into a political party after the December 2016 pact that included the disarmament of 7,000 Marxist fighters.

Upon his election last month, Duque vowed to make “corrections” to the peace deal, criticizing it for being too lenient towards former rebels.

The FARC responded by imploring Duque to show “good sense” but on Monday former rebel leader Ivan Marquez said he wouldn’t be taking his seat in Colombia’s Senate — as agreed in the pact — citing “modifications” to the deal as one of his reasons.

Botero, president of the National Traders’ Federation, has been especially critical of the pact’s prevision for sanctions against ex-guerrillas and fighters accused of crimes committed during the half-century conflict.

The agreement stipulates that former fighters who confess to their involvement in atrocities can avoid prison.

Botero will be tasked with organizing the fight against the remnants of dissident left-wing rebels still fighting the government, as well as various drug trafficking cartels.

He must also tackle the issue of the murder of human rights activists — at the staggering level of one every three days, since the start of the year.

Colombia’s massive Chiribiquete National Park has made UNESCO’s World Heritage List, the United Nations body announced Sunday.

“Congratulations,” the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization announced on Twitter.

With an area of 2.7 million hectares (6.7 million acres) covering five Amazonian municipalities in the southern Guaviare and Caqueta regions, Colombia’s largest natural park has rich biodiversity and is a sacred place for indigenous people.

This is the ninth world heritage listing in Colombia, the second most biodiverse country in the world after Brazil.

Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said that his government will expand the protected territory in the area.

“Tomorrow we will be in the park to further expand and protect our biodiversity #World Heritage,” he wrote on Twitter.

The territory, which is considered a protected area since 1989, will be expanded by 1.5 million hectares on Monday, according to the presidency.

For decades, war overshadowed the treasures that the park holds.

But the peace agreement signed in 2016 with the then communist FARC guerrilla led to the discovery of the large tepuis mesas hundreds of meters (yards) high and wide that house more than 75,000-year-old cave paintings.

The area is home to creatures such as the Chiribiquete emerald hummingbird, seen as the only endemic species in the Colombian Amazon, as well as the jaguar, the big cat only found in the Americas that is threatened by the loss of its habitat due to deforestation.

Jose Pekerman has refused to entertain the prospect of seeing Colombia’s stuttering World Cup campaign end with their final Group H clash against Senegal on Thursday.

Despite following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Japan with a decisive 3-0 win over Poland, Colombia need to beat the on-form Africans in Samara if they are to avoid what would be seen as an embarrassing exit.

“We came here for more, so it wouldn’t be a good result for us not to reach the second round,” Pekerman said.

Elimination “isn’t something we’re even considering,” he added.

After years of struggling to progress to the latter stages, James Rodriguez’s tournament-topping six goals steered Colombia to their best-ever finish of the quarter-finals in Brazil four years ago.

But with only three points to their name in Russia, Colombia likely need to win against Aliou Cisse’s Senegal.

Colombia failed to qualify from 2002 to 2010, and their previous two campaigns, in 1998 and 1994, ended at the first hurdle.

Pekerman, an Argentine who coached his native country at the 2006 World Cup, produced a tactical masterstroke against the Poles when he aligned left-footed Juan Quintero and Rodriguez in a three-man midfield to devastating effect.

Both players were decisive in goals scored by Monaco striker Radamel Falcao, Barcelona defender Yerry Mina and Juventus winger Juan Cuadrado during an impressive performance that suggested more is to come from the south Americans.

“We are doing everything to stay (in the competition), we are very optimistic,” added Pekerman, who was in charge four years ago when hosts Brazil beat Colombia 2-1 and ended their hopes in the semi-finals.

With Senegal and Japan both on four points, Colombia and Senegal could both progress with a draw but only if Japan lose to Poland.

If Japan and Senegal both win, Colombia will be eliminated and who tops the group will be decided on goal difference and then goals scored.

But Pekerman said Colombia will not be aiming for anything less than a win.

“It’s clear this is a decisive match and that victory is what will secure our qualification,” he said.

“There’s a great mood in the squad and we have to be optimistic after our performances against Poland.”

Colombia will resume aerial spraying of coca plantations with the herbicide glyphosate to counter a record increase in production of the cocaine crop, President Juan Manuel Santos announced Tuesday.

Santos, who will step down at the end of his term in August, said the health and environment ministry had approved pilot plans to resume spraying with the herbicide.

Colombia, the world’s largest producer of cocaine, stopped aerial spraying in 2015 because of health concerns, but has come under increasing pressure from the United States to curb record coca production.

Santos, who hands over to his hardline right-wing successor Ivan Duque, said spraying would be carried out by drones at a lower altitude and with a glyphosate concentration of less than 50 percent of that previously used when spraying gave rise to cancer concerns.

The Colombian announcement comes a day after the US National Office of Drug Control (ONDCP) reported that the area under coca cultivation in Colombia had grown by 11 percent to 290,000 hectares (716,000 acres), the highest level in its history.

It said cocaine production had increased by 19 percent.

“The message from President (Donald) Trump is clear: the record growth in cocaine production has to be reversed,” said ONDCP deputy director Jim Carroll.

The South American country’s government used aerial spraying for a 15-year period in a bid to counter drug trafficking and was the last country in the world to suspend it in favor of manual methods after a 2015 Constitutional Court ruling that it was harmful to health.

– Drones instead of planes –

Using drones instead of planes will prevent airborne contamination from glyphosate and causing “damage” to crops and people, Santos said.

“It’s similar to what we are already doing, with eradicators going with a tank on their shoulders spraying on the ground,” Santos told the National Council of Narcotic Drugs, which endorsed the new measures.

Farmers have alleged their legitimate crops as well as groundwater are damaged by aerial spraying, and Colombia had to agree to compensate neighboring Ecuador in 2013 for aerial fumigation of border areas that allegedly destroyed crops, killed livestock and sickened rural farmers.

In the United States, a Californian dying of cancer is suing US agrochemical giant Monsanto in the first such trial, claiming its popular herbicide Roundup — whose main ingredient is glyphosate — caused his disease.

Santos said giant “Caterpillar” type tractors would also be used to destroy the crops, which are often protected by drug traffickers using mines and snipers.

Historically, the US market has been the main destination for the Colombian drug, ahead of Europe and Asia.

The US has pointed to an increase of cocaine use that it says is linked to increased production in Colombia.

“It’s a problem and we have to face that, as we have done these past 20 years, ” US ambassador to Colombia Kevin Whitaker told FM radio Tuesday.

He said the US did not have experience in the use of drones to combat coca production. “I hope it serves for something,” he said.

Santos did not say when crop-spraying will resume, though Defense Minister Luis Carlos Villegas said earlier this week that he expected it to begin on Wednesday.

– Increase linked to suspension –

Colombia has linked the increase in coca plantations with the suspension of spraying. Santos signed a historic peace agreement with former rebels FARC in 2016, which largely controlled coca producing areas. But the treaty, and a crop-substitution effort, has failed to stop production.

With both replacement and eradication, the government expects to destroy 110,000 hectares of coca crops by the end of the year.

Washington and Bogota also agreed in March to a plan to cut by half the area under coca cultivation within five years.

“It’s a struggle that is not Colombia’s alone, it’s the responsibility of the whole world,” said Santos.

The government initiated manual fumigation with glyphosate in January 2017, following a pilot scheme that established environmental and health protocols.
