Iran Urges Chinese Investors to Expand Economic Cooperation and Investment

TEHRAN (Iran News) The meeting, hosted by the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, was attended by senior officials including the Deputy Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade (MIMT), Iran’s ambassador to China, several members of parliament, and the Iranian consul general in Shanghai.

Najafi-Arab noted that Iran traditionally exports goods such as dried fruits, saffron, carpets, handicrafts, and energy products to China but should now focus on exporting industrial and high-tech goods. “We must diversify our exports to include advanced manufactured products and increase the overall trade volume with China,” he said.

He announced the Chamber’s decision to establish a new commercial office in China to support Iranian exporters and promote non-oil exports. Similar plans are under way in Khorgos, northwest China, to set up facilities for packaging and production of Iranian goods. Najafi-Arab also proposed creating a digital platform to link Iranian and Chinese business communities directly, adding that the Tehran Chamber would provide office space for Iranian traders based in eastern China to enhance cooperation.

Highlighting the need for stronger institutional support, Najafi-Arab urged Iran’s embassy in Beijing to address persistent challenges in financial transactions and visa issuance. He also invited participants to visit the Tehran Chamber’s pavilion at the China International Import Expo, where Iran will showcase its industrial and commercial capabilities for the second consecutive year.

The chamber president expressed concern about the country’s declining investment rates, particularly in foreign investment. “Iranians abroad who run successful businesses should consider investing inside the country. Iran’s economy urgently needs new capital, especially in infrastructure, railways, energy, smart agriculture, and road construction,” he said.

Former Iranian ambassador to China Alaeddin Boroujerdi, now head of the Iran-China Friendship Association, called for establishing local Iranian chambers of commerce in various Chinese provinces, with the embassy’s support. He noted that visa issuance remains a major obstacle for Iranian traders, describing the process at China’s embassy in Tehran as “unacceptably slow.” He urged Iranian diplomats to pursue the issue with Chinese authorities.

Ruhollah Najabat, head of the Iran-China Parliamentary Friendship Group, stressed the need for an operational roadmap for bilateral trade. He proposed deploying multiple commercial attachés across China to identify provincial business opportunities and strengthen coordination between Iran’s private sector and government institutions.

Peyman Falsafi, member of parliament and of the Agricultural Commission, underlined the importance of aligning all state agencies under the 25-year Iran-China Cooperation Agreement. He highlighted China’s successful use of blockchain and digital currency technologies to bypass Western financial systems and suggested that Iran could adopt similar models to overcome sanctions-related barriers.

Khuzestan’s Solar Power Production Conditions Are Unique

TEHRAN (Iran News) TEHRAN – The Chinese Ambassador to Iran stated that Khuzestan Province has unique conditions in many areas, particularly in solar power production, and can effectively contribute to electricity generation through renewable energy.

Zhong Peiwu, during a meeting with the governor of Khuzestan in Ahvaz, expressed his pleasure at having the opportunity to observe the province’s capacities and hoped it would pave the way for greater connections between Khuzestan and China.

He highlighted the cultural, historical, and friendly ties between Iran and China, noting that strong bilateral exchanges have been established between the two countries.

The ambassador emphasized that Khuzestan holds significant potential in both traditional industries and emerging sectors, especially in the green economy and renewable energy, which could foster further cooperation between Iran and China.

He also pointed out that Khuzestan has excellent conditions for agricultural development and expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation in this field has a bright and promising future.

Peiwu identified efficient waste management and the export of high-quality aquatic products as key areas for collaboration between the two nations. He also suggested holding various training courses and establishing scientific exchanges between the two countries.

He expressed hope that with continuous and coordinated efforts from both sides, Iran’s cooperation—particularly Khuzestan’s—with China would progress to higher levels.

During the meeting, Khuzestan Governor Seyed Mohammadreza Mowlaei Zadeh stressed the importance of attracting investment and new technologies to the province. He stated that enhancing cooperation with China in agriculture, industry, and services is a priority.

Mowlaei Zadeh highlighted Khuzestan’s significant capacities across various sectors and expressed the province’s readiness for investment.

Referring to a study by a Chinese technical and expert delegation on Khuzestan’s investment potential, the governor added, “We are working to create suitable conditions for cooperation through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

He praised China’s technological advancements and growth in recent years, noting its achievements in transportation, construction, solar panel production, recycling, and other sectors.

He emphasized that investment in Khuzestan would be mutually beneficial, pursued under a win-win strategy.

“This investment will undoubtedly be profitable for both Chinese and Iranian sides, and we are committed to fostering constructive cooperation with China,” he said.

The governor underscored the serious determination of both the Iranian President and Chinese leadership to strengthen bilateral relations. He noted that Khuzestan has significant potential for collaboration in agriculture and fisheries.

Addressing environmental concerns, Mowlaei Zadeh pointed to air pollution as a major issue in Khuzestan and suggested that China could assist in this area. “If we can collect gas flares from oil fields and modernize agricultural harvesting methods, Khuzestan’s climate will greatly improve,” he explained.

He concluded by stressing the importance of leveraging global technology and advancements while continuing to support domestic producers.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – China’s UN Ambassador Zhang Jun called recent remarks made by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo against Iran unilateral, re-emphasizing the fact that the US’s departure from the JCPOA took away all of its rights to benefit from the agreement in any way.

“China is committed to upholding the efficacy of the JCPOA and the authority of the Security Council resolution, and will make relentless efforts toward the political solution of the Iranian nuclear issue,” Jun said in a letter addressed to the UNSC on Monday.

Stressing that the US is no longer a JCPOA participant, he said, “Therefore, it is illegitimate for the United States to demand the Security Council invoke the snapback mechanism”.

Mike Pompeo said Saturday that all UN sanctions against Iran were “back in effect” under the so-called snapback provision in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, formally named the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Pompeo said last month that he triggered a 30-day process at the council leading to the return of UN sanctions on Iran on Saturday evening that would also stop a conventional arms embargo on Tehran from expiring on Oct. 18.

But 13 of the 15 Security Council members say Washington’s move is void because Pompeo used a mechanism agreed under a 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, which the United States quit in 2018.

Washington argues it triggered the return of sanctions – known as “snapback” – because a UN resolution that enshrines the pact still names it as a participant. Diplomats say few countries are likely to reimpose the measures lifted under the 2015 deal.

She added that the Iran nuclear deal was a good example of how to solve something peacefully through talks.

Hua further said that the agreement had played a positive and important role in ensuring nuclear non-proliferation and protecting peace and stability in the Middle East.

The remarks came after a senior US official said President Donald Trump is expected to decertify the agreement.

The official, speaking last week on condition of anonymity, said Trump was also expected to roll out a broader US strategy on Iran that would be more confrontational.

Trump’s team now faces an Oct. 15 deadline to tell Congress whether it will continue to certify that Iran is compliance with the deal. If Trump refuses to certify, Congress will have 60 days to decide whether to re-impose US sanctions on Iran.

Last month, Trump, during an address before the United Nations General Assembly, said, “The Iran deal was one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into frankly that deal is an embarrassment to the United States, and I don’t think you’ve heard the last of it”.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) reached the 159-page nuclear agreement in July 2015 and implemented it in January 2016.

Since the historic deal was signed in Vienna, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed the Islamic Republic’s compliance with its commitments under the JCPOA, but some other parties, especially the US, have failed to live up to their undertakings.
