Chinese Helath Ministry Reports 105 New Confirmed COVID-19 Cases

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Chinese health authority said Thursday that it received reports of 105 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Wednesday, including 102 domestically transmitted cases and three imported ones.

Ninety-six of the 102 domestically transmitted cases were reported in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, five in Liaoning Province, and one in Beijing Municipality, the National Health Commission said in its daily report, adding that one new suspected COVID-19 case imported from abroad was reported in Shanghai Municipality.

No deaths related to the disease were reported Wednesday.

Thirteen COVID-19 patients were newly discharged from hospitals after recovery, the commission said, Xinhua news agency reported.

As of Wednesday, the overall confirmed COVID-19 cases on the mainland had reached 84,165, including 574 patients who were still being treated, with 33 in severe condition.

Altogether 78,957 people had been discharged after recovery, and 4,634 had died of the disease on the mainland, the commission said.

Provinces of Guangdong, Yunnan, and Shaanxi each saw one new imported case on Wednesday.

By the end of Wednesday, a total of 2,059 imported cases had been reported on the mainland. Of them, 1,981 had been discharged from hospitals after recovery, and 78 remained hospitalized, with two in serious condition. No deaths from the imported cases had been reported.

There were still two suspected COVID-19 cases, it added.

According to the commission, 18,353 close contacts were still under medical observation after 584 people were discharged from medical observation Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, 21 new asymptomatic cases, including one from outside the mainland, were reported, and 12 asymptomatic cases were re-categorized as confirmed ones.

The commission said 280 asymptomatic cases, including 90 from outside the mainland, were still under medical observation.

By Wednesday, 3,002 confirmed cases, including 24 deaths, had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 46 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 467 confirmed cases, including seven deaths, in Taiwan.

A total of 1,591 COVID-19 patients in the Hong Kong SAR, 46 in the Macao SAR, and 440 in Taiwan had been discharged from hospitals after recovery.

433 New Coronavirus Cases, 29 Deaths on Mainland China

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Mainland China reported 433 new cases of coronavirus infections on Feb 26, the National Health Commission said on Thursday, up from 406 on the previous day.

The total number of confirmed cases on mainland China has now reached 78,497, the health authority said.

The number of new deaths stood at 29, the lowest daily rate since Jan 28, and down from 52 the previous day. The outbreak has now killed a total of 2,744 people.

Hubei, the central Chinese province at the epicenter of the outbreak, reported 409 new cases and 26 deaths on Wednesday. Beijing and the provinces of Heilongjiang and Henan were the locations of the other three fatalities.

The number of new cases outside Hubei stood at 24, up from 5 on the previous day and reversing five days of declines.

The number of new confirmed coronavirus cases in Beijing on Feb 26 had jumped to 10 from zero the previous day. Pang Xinghuo, deputy head of Beijing Centre of Disease Control, told a news briefing on Thursday that it was a cluster case.

The new cases all stemmed from a property management agency in Beijing’s Chaoyang district, and had either been working in the same office or sharing the same dormitory, Pang said, Reuters reported.

Chinese authorities are also turning their attention to potential sources of infection from abroad, as the number of new cases outside China are now exceeding those domestically.

The Shanghai government said it is trying to identify anyone who came into contact with a coronavirus patient who arrived in the city from Iran, another coronavirus hotspot.

More than 40 countries and regions outside mainland China have reported infections. On Wednesday, cases were detected for the first time in Brazil, Pakistan, Norway, Greece, Romania and Algeria. The coronavirus has infected more than 80,000 people and killed nearly 2,800, the majority in China.

A senior medical advisor in the Chinese government who won fame for combating the SARS epidemic in 2003 on Thursday said the original source of the coronavirus remains unclear.

“Though the virus was first discovered in China, it may not have originated from China,“ said Zhong Nanshan, an 83-year-old epidemiologist.

Zhong said he believes there are other wildlife species apart from the pangolin, which is suspected as the original source in a wildlife market in Wuhan, that carry coronavirus.

Zhong said China would present a video report to the European Respiratory Society to share China’s experience in addressing the virus outbreak.

He again repeated an earlier forecast that the coronavirus outbreak in China will be contained by end-April after peaking in mid-to-late-February.

China: 1,113 death by coronavirus on mainland

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The death toll from a coronavirus outbreak in mainland China reached 1,113 as of the end of Tuesday, up by 97 from the previous day, the National Health Commission said on Wednesday, with new infections falling to their lowest since January.

Across mainland China, there were 2,015 new confirmed infections with coronavirus on Tuesday, the lowest since January 30 when there were 1,982 new confirmed cases, according to Reuters.

China last week amended its guidelines on prevention and control of the coronavirus, saying that only when asymptomatic cases show clinical signs should they be recorded as a confirmed case.

However, it is not clear if the government data previously included asymptomatic cases.

The total accumulated number of cases on the mainland has reached 44,653, the data released on Wednesday showed.

The central Hubei province, the epicenter of the outbreak in China, reported 94 deaths by a coronavirus, with 72 of them in its provincial capital of Wuhan.

The virus was first reported in December in a seafood and poultry market in Wuhan, with a population of 11 million people.

Due to death cases on coronavirus in China, The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the flu-like virus a global emergency.
