The Korea Football Association (KFA) said South Korea, coached by Paulo Bento, will host Australia at Busan Asian Main Stadium in Busan on June 7. And four days later, the Taegeuk Warriors will bring Iran to Seoul World Cup Stadium in the nation’s capital.

Plans to host these two Asian Football Confederation (AFC) rivals in June were first announced April 19, Yonhap News Agency reported.

South Korea last faced Iran in August 2017 during the final World Cup qualifying stage.

Iran, still without a coach after parting company with Carlos Queiroz in late January, are the top AFC team in the FIFA rankings at No. 21, 16 spots ahead of South Korea and 20 spots above Australia.

South Korea have faced Iran 30 times, with an all-time record of nine wins, eight draws and 13 losses. South Korea’s last win over Iran came in January 2011 in the quarterfinals of the AFC Asian Cup. In ensuing meetings, Iran enjoyed four consecutive 1-0 victories over South Korea before they played to a scoreless draw during the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in August 2017.

Queiroz has accused the Iranian football federation of not fulfilling its obligations, related to the last six-month contract that ended in January and also related to the previous one.

“Iran football federation has committed to its all obligations. The non-payment has been due to sanctions which restrict bank transfers but as I’ve already said it’s a time-consuming process and all Iranians are well-aware about that,” the Chairman of Legal Committee told Tasnim news agency.

“Queiroz, who has been a leading proponent of Iran around the world, had to show more patience, however he accused Iran federation of not fulfilling its obligations,” he added.

“He has said Iran’s preparation in Qatar ahead of the AFC Asian Cup was a big mistake but it’s not true because the world’s best teams to hold their camps in Qatar. Queiroz’s allegations are against FIFA’s ethics code. We are connecting with FIFA and Colombia football federation about the case and are doing legal actions against his claims,” Barati added.

Carlos Queiroz has told his players to trust themselves and in his methods as Iran prepare to face Japan in the first semi-final of the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 on Monday at Al Ain’s Hazza bin Zayed Stadium.

The Iranians are appearing in the last four of the AFC Asian Cup for the first time since 2004, when they missed out on a place in the final in a penalty shootout, and are taking on a nation that has won the title on four occasions since 1992.
But while the pressure is mounting on Team Melli to claim the title for the first time since 1976, the experienced Portuguese coach wants his players to continue to believe in the methods that have taken them to the Finals of the last two FIFA World Cups under his watch.
“It’s one more day, one more game,” said Queiroz. “This Japanese team, they have great movement on the pitch and with their actions and decisions they are very accurate. They are very accurate with their passing, but we cannot lose our identity.
“What is important is that we have a great team and great players, but we cannot risk our identity. We need to be ourselves and play with confidence and trust. We have our own weapons to play with but, of course, we have to pay attention to the Japanese team and adapt and try to control the strong points, and they have a lot.”
“But the most important thing is to be ourselves. If we are not able to play one game without being ourselves that doesn’t make sense. After eight years and after so many sacrifices and so many games, now we have one game, the semi-final, to play against a great team.
“We need to be ourselves, we need to go inside the pitch and no matter what happens express our football and say: ‘We are Iran’ and play our football against Japan. That’s the most important.”
Iran and Japan have not met at the AFC Asian Cup Finals since 1992 and last faced each other in a competitive clash back in 2005, when Japan triumphed 2-1 in a 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier. Team Melli had won the corresponding fixture by the same score five months earlier.
The two countries have shared some epic encounters, with the most thrilling coming in November 1997 when Japan beat the Iranians 3-2 late in the second period of extra-time to qualify for the FIFA World Cup Finals for the first time.
Hajime Moriyasu’s Japan have yet to excite in a similar manner in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019, but Queiroz is refusing to underestimate the Samurai Blue.
“We don’t need to talk about our expectations, it’s just the next game and as always we would like to be ready and try to play a good football match against a great team from Japan,” he said.
“They’re a country that I don’t need to extend too much my praise, my words for Japan’s national team. We are very excited and proud to be here after so many years of crossing some difficulties and adversities to play in the semi against Japan. It is fantastic for the players and for the Iran national team.
“I do not see anything defensive in this Japan team. It’s just a different opinion. I know we play against the most prestigious and successful national team in Asia. They have brilliant players, play brilliant football.”

Iran national football team coach Carlos Queiroz wants his players to play with freedom and joy against China.

Team Melli will play China at the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the UAE on Thursday in the quarter-final of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup.

“No two games in football are ever the same, in football it is always a different story,” said the Portuguese tactician.

“The game versus China is a new game, a new adventure, and one in which we can try to do our absolute best. However, what is key is to remember all the lessons we have learned – both when we have won and when we have lost – and put them to good use, Queiroz said.

“This is just like a cup final as they are games which do not have a history, they do not have a past. You cannot lose a game because of history or statistics. This type of cup final match is very different to those we faced in the group stage and I believe the experience my players have will count for something in the game,” he stated.

“We are not favorites as I feel there are never favorites in a game like this. We are proud to be here for a game which is the most important game of our lives because it is the next game, and that is always the most crucial for both players and coaches,” Queiroz went on to say.

“It will be a difficult game against a very tough team. China is a solid and well-prepared team with a great coach. We know a difficult task is in front of us, but we are excited and fully prepared. We are confident that we will play well, as we have the ability, our ambitions and our dreams.

“I want my players to keep it simple as football really is a simple game. It is just 90 minutes of 11 versus 11 and the players need to enjoy the match, enjoy the experience. If we are able to play with freedom and joy, I believe we will do well,” Queiroz concluded.

Iran booked a place in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup quarter-finals thanks to a 2-0 win over Oman at the competition’s Round of 16.

Title-chasing Iran survived a first-minute penalty in a chaotic start.

Team Melli goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand saved from the spot before goals from Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Ashkan Dejagah in Abu Dhabi sent Iran through to face China.

“It’s the first time in my life one team has conceded a penalty in the first minute,” Queiroz told AFP.

“We need to play with a killer instinct. It’s important to kill the game when you have the opportunity,” added the former Real Madrid boss.

“Football is a hell of a job for players and coaches to be honest with you,” Queiroz stated.
