The incident had no casualties, but three crew member were reported to have sustained injury. There were 14 crew members on board, all of whom of foreign nationalities, according to Director General of Ports and Maritime of Hormozgan, Afifipour, who was speaking to MNA correspondent a few hours after the incident.

The cargo ship was carrying 153 containers of Iran’s mineral and industrial goods, including potassium chloride, calcium carbonate, copper concentrate, industrial oil, and regulators. The ship was also carrying two containers of pistachios.

According to an official, the capsizing may be the result of lack of coordination between the ship’s officer and the contractor for loading and unloading.

TEHRAN- India will start export of container cargo to Russia via Iran from January 2018, S. Kumar, the commissioner of Indian Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), announced.

The official said this shipment will be done as India moves forward to operationalize international corridor INSTC, India Today reported.

The move, he said, would cut down cargo transport time by half to nearly 17 days, from the earlier 35 days, using just the sea route.

“India will shift its first export consignment via Bandar Abbas to Russia from mid-January. It will probably transit Iran, Azerbaijan and then reach Russia,” Kumar told reporters.

The Customs department has been receiving a lot of enquiries from different sectors for using this route, he said, adding that the route would help in saving money as well as time.

“This initiative will operationalize the INSTC,” Kumar said.

International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) is a multi-mode network of sea, rail, and road route for moving freight among India, Russia, Iran, Europe and Central Asia. The proposed 7,200-km long corridor is expected to increase trade connectivity among major cities of Mumbai, Moscow, Tehran, Baku, Bandar Abbas, Astrakhan and Bandar Anzali.

India also plans to send seven shipments of wheat to Afghanistan through Iran’s southeastern Chabahar Port by the end of January, Reuters has previously reported.

India launched a trade route to Afghanistan via Iran through shipping its first consignment of wheat to Afghanistan on October 29, bypassing longtime rival Pakistan.

TEHRAN – Qatar has opened a land and sea cargo line with Iran and Turkey in a bid to reduce the Arab country’s cargo shipping costs by 80 percent, a report said.

Former editor-in-chief of Qatar’s al-Sharq newspaper, Jaber Al-Harmi, said via twitter that the Persian Gulf Arab state has opened a land and sea cargo line with Iran and Turkey, Middle East Monitor reported on Monday.

The tweet also included a video showing large trucks loaded with goods on their way to Qatar.

Qatar has extended new sea lines in the face of an air, land and sea blockade imposed by Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain.

The lines extend between the ports of Qatar to various destinations in Turkey, Kuwait, Oman, India and Pakistan.

Economists believe that the five shipping lines constitute an alternative for Doha in the face of sanctions imposed by its neighbors and also an outlet for its navigational and commercial movement in general.

Since June 5, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt have severed ties with Qatar and imposed punitive measures on the grounds that it supports terrorism, a charge that Doha denies.
