President Calls for National Unity in Last Cabinet Meeting

TEHRAN (Iran News) – President Hassan Rouhani defended his government’s record of activities in the last cabinet meeting, saying that national unity should be the priority for all.

Rouhani said on Sunday at the last meeting of the 12th cabinet: “A very lofty goal that we must all pursue is national unity.”

Iran’s 7th president said: “In the past, we talked to the people and announced that nothing was against reality and we told the people what was real.”

“Of course, we did not tell people part of the truth, and I do not think we could tell them because I did not find it useful,” added Rouhani.

He went on to highlight: “A very lofty goal that we must all pursue is national unity.”

“We tolerated many issues in order to maintain national cohesion and national unity in our country,” stressed the president.

Rouhani called his first term a period of interaction with the world when his government was quite confident that they were the opponent of the great powers in the negotiations.

The president added: “We did not negotiate to win only in politics. Of course, we also won in politics. We saw its effects in the economy. Of course, this was our wish.”

Rouhani also stressed the fact that his government has made efforts for reducing the effects of U.S. sanctions.

He noted that the 12th administration has tried to lessen the negative consequences of the economic war imposed on Iran by the United States since 2018, and that the country has suffered from high inflation and difficulties in trade exchanges with the world.

Principally, when a country enters a war, it leaves behind development and attaches importance to people’s normal life, the President said, adding that the Iranian people have the right not to be satisfied because of the hardships in terms of livelihood.

The country has faced difficulties in exporting oil and even in banking transactions, he noted.

The condition is completely clear, but unfortunately some do not find out the difference between war and peace; however, Iran did not initiate the war, he emphasized, adding that the people are well-aware that the situation of the administration was not the same during the first four years and the second term, because the country was in a better situation in terms of domestic and international conditions in the first tenure of the administration.

The government has tried to be honest with the Iranian people, but it told parts of the facts on the ground, because it was afraid that the other parts could harm national unity, he argued.

Iranian diplomats are very qualified, so the administration had been confident that they could guarantee the country’s national interests and they succeeded in negotiations, Rouhani added.

Rouhani calls for focusing on domestic capacities

“It is crystal clear that our main focus should be given to domestic capacities because that is where our power comes from,” Rouhani said during the cabinet meeting.

The president said, “This does not mean closing our eyes to external capacities,” adding that “We should talk and interact with the world.”

“Various fields in today’s world, including the economic, science and technology and art are not just issues that lie within the political borders of a country,” he added.

Reiterating that cooperation with the Islamic Republic’s partners could have vital contributions to the country’s foreign diplomacy, Rouhani said Iran is engaged and cooperating with all countries of the world except those seeking hostility.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Rouhani called on the people and the authorities to work together in the current situation to get through the problems.

The president said the government is aware of the problems and the rightful demands of people and will do its best to improve the situation.

Rouhani says US pressure on Iran ‘crime against humanity’

“The pressure imposed by enemies on our country is put on all people even children and the ill. This US measure is a crime against humanity. We should resist and so far we have shown good resistance,” Rouhani said in today’s cabinet meeting in Tehran.

US imposed unilateral sanctions on Iran after withdrawing from the JCPOA, Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, in May 2018. Since then, Washington has ramped up the pressure in different fields on Iran, hoping to gain another deal with Iran. Tehran says there will be no talks with a country which has violated international agreements.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes talks and negotiations, but if the United States is genuine about holding talks, it first needs to remove all sanctions against us before taking any other step,” Rouhani said in a meeting with Foreign Minister Zarif, his deputies, and the senior managers of the ministry on Tuesday, adding “It’s not possible to sit at the negotiating table with a ‘murderer’.”

Iranian officials also describe US sanctions as ‘economic terrorism’ which is targeting civilians in the country.

Council of Ministers approves signing customs agreements with ECO states

The Council of Ministers convened on Sunday evening in a session that was chaired by President Hassan Rouhani and discussed a range of domestic and international issues.

During the session, the cabinet agreed with the signing of customs agreements between Iran and the Economic Cooperation Organization member states, noting the importance of coordination in customs relations for the development of foreign trade and pursuing the economic goals of the country.

The ECO region comprises ten member states including Iran, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Pakistan, Turkey, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Pakistan, Iran and Turkey are the founder members of the bloc.

The Council also authorized the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development to temporarily sign the amendment protocol for air transport agreement between the governments of Iran and Ukraine.

The government also approved the bill of “Agreement on International Transport of Passengers and Goods between the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Swiss Federal Council.”

During the session, the cabinet approved allocating credit and loans for reconstruction and repairing the damages caused by the earthquake in Masjed Soleyman, Khuzestan Province.

The credit that was approved was aimed at reconstructing 1,427 urban housing units and 93 rural units.

The Council of Ministers further discussed and approved allocating credit for the National Project for Investigating Floods.

Iranian gov. approves bill to give 5-year residence to foreign investors

During a cabinet session chaired by President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday afternoon it was decided to give 5-year residence to foreign nationals who at least invest 250,000 euros or equivalent foreign currencies in the country.

The new regulation aims to boost foreign investments. The related bill was initially presented to the cabinet by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance.

Govt. committed to swift compensation for flood losses

The Council of Ministers convened on Sunday evening, where ministries of interior, energy, health, roads and urban development, and agriculture updated the president on the current situation in areas hit by the recent devastating floods.

President Rouhani, who chaired the session, expressed gratitude to the disaster management taskforce, all executive organs, the Red Crescent Society, Army, IRGC and popular forces, as well as the IRIB for helping the people in the flood-hit areas.

He also said that the recent floods were unprecedented in the history of Iran, and added that the government is committed to providing swift compensation for flood-affected people across the country.

Rouhani also stressed that everybody’s cooperation in managing the situation in flood-hit areas was essential.

Exceptional rainfalls since March 19 have flooded some 1,900 cities and villages across Iran, claiming over 70 lives and causing devastating damage to Iranian water and agriculture infrastructures. Floods have affected several provinces in the north and west of the country including, Golestan, Mazandaran, Lorestan, and Khuzestan.

Operation of 3 phases of Persian Gulf Star Refinery ‘great achievement’

President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday that the operation of three phases within two years is a great achievement and the symbol of Iranian nation’s capabilities and progress.

Pointing to the inauguration of third phase of the gas condensate plant, known as the Persian Gulf Star Refinery in the southern city of Bandar Abbas, Rouhani said in a cabinet session on Wednesday that the operation of three phases within two years is a great achievement and the symbol of Iranian nation’s capabilities and progress.

“Today, the refinery produces 36 million liters of Euro-5 gasoline each day; it also produces 14 million liters of Euro-5 gasoline in the refinery thanks to the opening of the plan to increase the quality of gasoline at Bandar Abbas refinery,” he added.

Pointing to the fact that today Iran has achieved self-sufficiency in gasoline production, Rouhani said, “it is one of the achievements of current and previous governments during which gasoline production doubled and is going to reach 100 million liters till the end of current Iranian year (March 20).

It indicates the government’s ability to withstand sanctions and pressures, he added.

He went on to refer to the inauguration of Fateh-class submarine, saying, “this shows ouer defense power and capability, as well as maritime industries.”

Iranian nation’s resolve will win against the United States’ conspiracies, said Rouhani, adding, “today, there is a showdown between Iran and the US, meaning that today, they are using all they can against the Iranian nation.”

Stating that without a doubt, the Iranian nation will win, he added, “the Americans faced failure once again in persuading Europe to accompany them in withdrawing from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).”

“Americans did whatever they could, but all the other members of the United States Security Council objected to them, marking another political loss for the US,” he added.

Rouhani went on to refer to the Warsaw conference, adding, “first they announced it clearly that the summit was supposed to be against Iran, even stating in the initial statement, but when they faced objection from other countries, they had to change to topic and say that it was about the Middle East.”

“When the Vice president of the United States called on European countries to accompany them in withdrawing from the JCPOA, they pronounced it clearly that they would stay in the deal,” he said.

President Rouhani added, “the Americans were seeking two goals in the Warsaw Summit, which were Iranophobia and forgetting about the Palestinian issue, but they did not succeed in any of them.”

Rouhani also referred to the other moves of the US against the Iranian nation, including threatening the IAEA and putting pressure on banks and companies for not having cooperation with Iran.

“The actions of the United States in pressurising banks and companies for not cooperating with Iran is an absolute terrorist act against international regulations,” he said.

President of the Islamic Republic of Iran said, “the Iranian government and nation stand by each other and our unity can lead us to victory against their pressures.”

On the recent summit in Sochi, Russia, Rouhani said, “despite the artificial Warsaw conference, the Sochi Summit was a firm, effective one.”

Stating that the Islamic Republic of Iran is seeking cooperation with all friendly countries, he said, “interaction with countries is very important for us and therefore, we cooperate with our friend countries in the region and other parts of the world, including Europe.”

“We are ready to cooperate and have interaction with the world, but countries that are working with us need to be careful not to show greed towards us,” said Rouhani.

He also said that the Iranian nation would never yield to the bullying behaviour of the United States, adding, “as we want to have good and honest relations with Europe, we never accept anyone’s irresponsible behaviour.”

On Leader’s recent statement, Rouhani said, “we must all feel responsible for implementing his statement on the second step of the Islamic Revolution.”

US dream of halting Iran’s oil exports won’t come true

President Hassan Rouhani described economic activities in Iran promising and positive despite the enemies’ pressures, adding, “Americans won’t ever achieve their goal of halting Iran’s oil exports.”

Speaking during the cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning, Rouhani said, “the Islamic Republic of Iran will continue to export oil despite US sanctions.”

“In the past 9 months, Iran’s trade balance has been positive due to the $750m non-oil exports, indicating that the activities of the economic executives and the private and public sectors have been successful,” he added.

Rouhani said, “based on oil minister’s reports, Iran’s oil sales have been continuing just as it was expected, but there are some minor issues that are solvable and will be solved soon.”

Pointing to the reports on employment, he said, “these figures show that in autumn this year, we have had 623 thousand net employment and this is promising given the current conditions of the country.”

“For the first time, our net employment rate has reached to almost 24 million people, while at the beginning of the current government’s term of office, 20.6 million people were employed in the country,” Rouhani added.

On the achievements of the defence ministry, he said, “minister of defence presented a good report on achievements regarding mid-range, long-range, air-to-air, surface-to-sea, and sea-to-sea missiles, as well as drones.”

“We’ll never hesitate to boost our defensive power,” said Rouhani, adding, “one of the goals of my administration is to boost the defensive power of the country and figures prove we have been a pioneer in this field.”

He also said that every opportunity should be used for the country’s prosperity, adding, “Of course, this does not mean that we are hoping for others’ help”.

Rouhani went on to refer to regional issues, saying, “recently, we have witnessed an important incident in the region.”

“Americans have been claiming from 2003 that they have saved Iraq and Afghanistan, but if they are right, then why they don’t make a public official visit to Iraq to see how Iraqi people welcome them?” he added.

President also said, “entering a small military base at night and taking pictures with a few soldiers, having a short speech and then leaving Iraq two hours later means that you have been defeated.”

Rouhani also addressed US officials, saying, “I hope the White House has learned its lesson for 2019 not to interfere in the lives of other peoples, especially the people of Palestine and the Holy Quds, which is related to the World of Islam and all Muslims, and act within the framework of the law.”
