TEHRAN (Iran News) –Head of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Hossein Selahvarzi has called for establishing new banking and monetary mechanisms to expand trade with Bulgaria, the ICCIMA portal reported.

Speaking in a meeting with Bulgaria’s Ambassador to Tehran Nikolina Konova on Monday, Selahvarzi said: “Iranian private sector is looking for ways to increase trade with other countries. Although there are many non-sanctioned areas for joint activity; we have to find new ways for financial exchanges.”

Referring to the drop in economic relations between Iran and other countries due to the imposition of sanctions in recent years, he said: “However, we believe that considering the old relationship between our countries, we can find ways to increase business exchanges in various fields, and this issue is one of the priorities of the ICCIMA in the new management term.”

Selahvarzi further stated that transportation is one of the important fields of cooperation between Iran and Bulgaria, adding: “Iran’s transportation is under the supervision of the ICCIMA, and due to membership in IRU (International Road Transport Union), we are the largest carnet customer in this organization. Therefore, we can have favorable cooperation in this field.”

While inviting the head of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce to travel to Iran at the top of a business delegation, the head of the Iran Chamber proposed holding a joint webinar with the presence of economic operators from both sides, so as to quickly provide a space for more familiarity with the investment opportunities of Iran and Bulgaria.

During the meeting, Konova also pointed out the political, economic, and cultural capacities of Iran and Bulgaria and noted that the lack of familiarity between Iranian and Bulgarian businessmen about the commercial potentials of the two countries is the most important obstacle in the way of the expansion of mutual trade.

Referring to the interest of Bulgarian businesses to cooperate with Iranian companies, she continued: “What is important in exchanging business delegations…[because] without this, only 20 percent of merchants can find their peers correctly. In this context, the role of the chambers of commerce of both sides will be very important.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Bulgaria Embassy’s Counsellor on Economic Affairs Stoil Zlatarski in meeting with the caretaker of the international affairs of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Ms. Niloofar Asadi explored ways for broadening trade between the two states and reiterated that signing agreement on rail cooperation can be a solution for bilateral trade.

Zlatarski met Asadi at Iran Chamber of Commerce while Head of Iran-Bulgaria Joint Commercial Committee and Head of Europe desk of ICCIMA were present.

In the meeting, Ms. Asadi said that talks with embassies and chambers of commerce of target countries for broadening economic cooperation is on the agenda of the ICCIMA and Bulgaria is one of the target countries.

She added that despite sanctions and existing problems, the relation between Tehran and Sofia has enjoyed an upward growth and in the past two years and with cooperation of the Iran-Bulgaria Joint Economic Committee and the foreign ministry, several trade delegations have been exchanged between the two states.

She noted that ICCIMA believes exchange of delegation has a brilliant role in broadening bilateral relation between Iran and Bulgaria.

Asadi further said that the 20th joint economic commission of Iran and Bulgaria will be held in Tehran this year and called on Bulgaria’s chamber of commerce to send a delegation to Tehran and in return ICCIMA can hold a webinar in collaboration with Bulgaria’s Chamber of Commerce for acquaintance of Iranian traders and companies with existing trade potentials in both countries.

She also pointed to the problems of visas and transit and also transportation in Europe and said that signing agreements on rail cooperation between the two states will be a solution for bilateral trade and in between, the role of chambers of commerce of both countries as well as the joint committee is very bold.

She termed agriculture, tourism, energy and modern irrigation methods as the prioritized fields for broadening bilateral relation.

Asadi also urged Bulgaria’s Embassy to accept the recommendation letters of ICCIMA for easing visa process for traders.

Then Zlatarski, for his part, said that last year the trade exchange between the two countries grew by 40% and there are suitable potentials for multiplying the trade volume between the two states.

He added that he was preset in the meeting for coordinating the 20th joint economic commission but due to changes of governments there was no time for reviewing the outcome of the meetings and expressed hope in the upcoming weeks and with deployment of the new government in Bulgaria it can have required readiness for holding the joint commission.

He added that in case Bulgarian companies apply for talks with their Iranian counterpart, the embassy will inform the ICCIMA and connect the both sides together for preparing the ground for travel and cooperation.

Zlatarski also announced readiness of Bulgaria for pursuing agreements on rail cooperation between the two countries and holding the 20th joint commission.

Reacting to Ms. Asadi’s proposal for introducing reputed and trustable parties by chambers of commerce for accelerating trade exchanges, the Bulgarian diplomat welcomed it and said that he as the representative of Bulgaria’s Chamber of Commerce announces the readiness for cooperation in this regard.

Meanwhile in the meeting Iranian side announced readiness of Iranian startups and knowledge-based companies for activities in Bulgaria.

The 19th joint summit of economic cooperation between Iran and Bulgaria was held in 2018. The 20th round of this summit was scheduled to be held in 2022 but it was postponed due to the domestic developments in Bulgaria.

Iran’s Chamber of Commerce yesterday hosted the forum on introducing trade opportunities of Iran and Bulgaria where both countries expressed their interest for boosting cooperation.

IRAN NEWS ECONOMIC DESK

Deputy Head of Iran’s Chamber Hossein Salahvarzi hosted the forum where caretaker of Bulgarian Embassy and Iran’s Ambassador to Bulgaria were present.

During the forum, both sides pointed to the long and historic relations between both states and called for barter trade and redefining new mechanisms for expanding the current bilateral relation.

Addressing the forum, Mr. Salahvarzi pointed to the joint economic cooperation of both countries in ministerial level and promising activities of the committee, adding that the relation between Iran and Bulgaria has always been in good level and economic cooperation between provinces of both countries is on the rise.

He also pointed to some agreements which signed during the joint economic commission in Sofia, adding that one of the best agreements was the cooperation between chambers of commerce of both states and it should be operational.

Salahvarzi pointed to the good capacities of both states for cooperation, adding Iran and Bulgaria can be good trade partners He admitted that problem in financial transactions, lack of data bank on trade demands of both countries, and customs issues are three major hurdles in way of boosting trade cooperation between both states.

Meanwhile Iran’s Ambassador to Bulgaria Mr. Mohammad Javad Rasooli pointed to the commonalities between both nations, adding that both countries are keen to expand their trade relation.

He added that the current trade volume of both countries stands at $100m which is falling. Adding that of course the statistics are not accurate because several Iranian goods are exported to Bulgaria with other countries’ brand like Turkey.

Rasooli noted that embassy is working to eliminate these countries which are between Iran and Bulgaria’s trade.

He added that after the U.S. pullout of the JCPOA, Bulgaria has been the only country which has held its joint economic commission with Iran.

He noted that one of the agreements in the meeting was to launch direct flight between Tehran and Sofia. Rasooli noted that one of the major achievements of the meeting was to prepare facilities for Bulgaria’s transportation system and it can facilitate the trade between both states.

Meanwhile caretaker of Bulgaria’s Embassy in Tehran Radoslav Gergov said that the embassy is working to retain good bilateral ties, adding this relation is the major engine of relation between Black Sea and Caspian Sea.

He added that Iran-Azerbaijan-Georgia and Black Sea route and Bulgaria should be revived for entering European and China’s markets.

Iran faced Bulgaria for the second time on Friday night following its advance from the first round of Group D, and went down in straight sets against the host country.

The Iranian squad had defeated Bulgaria in the first round and the Bulgarian rivals made a powerful comeback to make up for their earlier loss.

Bulgaria won the first set with a considerable difference in points (25-19), and although the Iranian squad made a good comeback in the second set, they still conceded defeat 28-26. Bulgaria finished the game by winning the third set 26-24, with only a difference of two points.

Iran is grouped with teams from US, Bulgaria and Canada in Group G in the second round of the World Championship. Its loss against Bulgaria has kicked the team to the third place, making it more challenging for the Iranian team to advance from this group.

Iran will next take on Canada on Saturday and then face the US on Sunday.

The US is leading the ranking table in Group G with 16 points, followed by Bulgaria with 12 points. Iran is in the third place with 11 points and Canada is ranked fourth with 9 points.
